Thanks OP. Purchased to convert my sedan into a 7 seater.

    • it will barely fit your bottom TB

      • +15

Measured kids. Only 120L each. Just have to work out how to get power up there for portable dvd.

        • just get battery powered.

        • +2

wont last the 15 hour non stop drive to GC theme parks.

        • @TightBottom:

          the oxygen will runout first.

        • @Gimli: drill couple of holes on the side for air and view points

  • So looking at those dimensions, it seems like it would only hold one suitcase?

    • +1

      only 1 large suitcase.

      • +15

I managed to fit much of my camping gear.

The shape of roof pods isnt really for suit cases. A roof cargo box would be more suitable but its not watersealed nor can be locked.

Thanks for the helpful photo and the original post.

          Got one, looks great, Ta!!

        • What kind of car do you have? I'm concerned it won't be long enough to reach the rails on an Xtrail so interested to find out if its ok for anything other than a hatchback.

        • +1

Im fitting them on a Hilux and a Honda hatch. I've got Thule Aerobars.

If your car has factory roof rails, you will need cross bars for these to work.

        • @flipfire: thanks. I have rola cross bars already but can't find the distance between them. Will wait until I get to the car this arvy.

        • +5

          @flipfire:

Just use the Honda as a roof pod for the Hilux!!

        • Hey flipfire, does the pod have multiple spaced mounting holes for the u-bolts? I have a 750mm spread of the cross bars and the manual says 700mm (for adjustable types).

        • +2

          @Giggidy:

          Yes theres multiple holes.

I just measured the maximum distance between the U-bolts using the furthest holes and it can fit up to 780mm.

So the the spacing plus the width of the bars cannot exceed 780mm.

        • +1

@flipfire: thanks heaps. Our min space is 840mm (outside of bar to outside of bar) so looks like its a no go.

        • @flipfire:
So from the front of the front bar to the end of the back bar has to be less than 780mm?

        • +1

          @g1:

          Correct

        • @flipfire:
Thanks. It seems its too small for my bars.

  • does it come with the bars? Or need to purchase separately as my current does not have (Nissan Trail - 10 years old)

    • +1

      Nope

If your car has factory roof rails, you will need cross bars to fit these.

      • +2

Then i need to find a deal for cross bar first :(

just be careful going under the Montague Street bridge if your vehicle is higher than standard and you put one of these on your roof!

  • I cannot justify replacing the $30 roof rack I fitted, but this is a superb deal.

  • How will this affect the fuel economy?

    • +4

      Fuel consumption will increase

      • Unless filled with helium

    • Studies show up to 5% increase in fuel consumption due to the increased drag. Also depends if your mostly driving suburban or highway speeds.

      • A lot more than 5%. The roof rack can decrease efficiency by around 5%. The roof pod will cause much more.

Its in finnish but the figures are there along with noise levels.

The Rola pod isnt the most streamlined shape but it also isnt as long or wide as the Thule Dynamic 800 in that article.

        • +1

          @flipfire:
My vehicle fuel consumption increases by around 20 to 25% with a 430L roof box.

        • @trev likes bargains:

25% sounds like a lot, any other variables that could be affecting consumption? Is it a box or slightly more aerodynamic pod? Do you have cross bars on before calculating the 25% increase? Tiny car carrying more weight than usual?

        • @OzBragain:
Medium size car with a V6 engine. Travelling upto 110kmph. Cross bars are only added when using the pod. It definitely looks aerodynamic to me.

  • Will these fit wing style/whispbar roof racks?

    • Yes. The included U-bolt is about 8cm wide.

    • You can buy specially shaped U bolts specific to whispbar. I have that roofrack and the Aldi pod. The bolts were about $20 from memory.

  • No bigger options?

waste on petrol with the drag & weight, buy a bigger car in the first place!
the cornering won't be good either… waste of time

waste on petrol with the drag & weight, buy a bigger car in the first place!

Taking into account that roof pods are generally only used a few times a year your logic is somewhat flawed.

the cornering won't be good either… waste of time

These things aren't rated to carry much weight, can't see it making much difference for the few times it's on top of the car

      • Actually having any weight that high up on the car makes a huge difference to center of gravity and hence performance. If you've ever driven a car with a lift kit or a large roof load then you will instantly know what I'm talking about.

        • +2

You're missing the point champ. No one said carrying weight on the roof won't make a difference, I just wanted to clear up the idiotic remarks from the previous poster.

If you've ever driven a car with a lift kit or a large roof load then you will instantly know what I'm talking about.

I own and drive a car with a lift kit and have carried up to 100kg on the roof plenty of times.

This is the smallest pod in the range… I think they go like 500L, 450L, 360L, then this one.

It's pretty small. So no knee jerk impulse buys thinking you are getting one of the bigger ones… take careful note of the dimensions quoted.

    • Knee jerk, that's how I make most purchases!

  • i ordered one from wetherill park NSW, and they missing keys, also call warick farm nsw and they missing keys aswell, just be careful when you pick it up to check that it comes with keys

  • got one. Figured it will be perfect for trips to the snow. The boots and all the wet stuff can now go up the top and prevent the car from steaming up.

  • The last few days I tried ordering from a bunch of NSW stores that said they were in stock but when I went to check out, it kept saying the item is no longer available.
Eventually managed to get an order through yesterday via the mobile app with the Warwick Farm store.
30 minutes later the store calls me saying there's no local stores that have any in stock and said she'd call head office to arrange one shipped to me free of charge (or I could get a refund instead).

Today I just received an email saying the item was shipped (with the address of the head office on there). Score!

  • 1 left on the shelf at Auburn. NSW

  • +1

Has anyone received their roof pod?

I probably ordered days later than some of you, and got my shipping notification last week but according to the item tracking via temando the darn thing is still awaiting pickup by the courier?! WTF - I'll have to phone them.

    • Mine was waiting to be picked up for about 4 days, but once picked up, it was delivered within a few days.
