I have been interested in the g402 mouse for a while. Anyone got experience on using either of them?
I have the G402 (bought for ~$38 from Futu off another 20% eBay thing some months ago). Been a great mouse so far with a comfortable hold, the G502 basically has more macro buttons and customisable weights, and this being the spectrum comes with RGB lightning (not that you can see it while you're using it @_@). I've always been a fan of Logitech's mice, as the MX518 I had before I got the G402 is still working fine and I've had that for a loooooong time.
I have the g402, been thinking about getting g502 for while but I don't see much reason to other than more buttons and adjustable weight. Very tempting but I don't really need to upgrade, so tempting..
had a 402 for a while, its quite nice!
Good mouse. Very comfortable.
I've tried quite a bit of different mice before and I wouldn't get the g402 when you could spend a little bit more and get a whole lot better (imo). Assuming you prefer palm grip, the chassis feels a little bit cheap and not wide enough, the feedback from clicking the side buttons feels a bit lacking but at least the mouse tracking is perfectly fine.
But then again, you get what you pay for.Worth noting though, the G402 uses a different sensor to the G502. In that sense, comparing apples to oranges. I have the G502, it came highly recommended among obgners.
Been using it for almost a year, amazing mouse! far greater than any razer mouse, you wont' regret it
g402 master race checking in
Great, was just thinking of getting this mouse to replace my G303.
I'm confused here, the images look like it's for the proteus core (which use to be around the $50 mark), but the description says proteus spectrum. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the core older? (or are both essentially the same?)
Yeah, Spectrum basically just adds RGB lightning as far as I know. For the price it should be for a spectrum though, otherwise like you said it wouldn't be a deal at all for a Core.
Fair enough so I guess upgrading to this one from the core isn't worth it. Might wait for the G900 to drop a bit more and jump on that. Thanks!
Picked mine up for $189 and don't regret it. It's brilliant.
@johnno07: what's your thoughts on the g900? do you reckon you could use it for work and gaming?
@eviledward: I'm not sure why it couldn't be used for work? Pretty much if a mouse is good for gaming (i.e. it's most strenuous usage), it's good for everything else. Though I would suggest you're spending about 150 too much if it was just for work. It's absolutely brilliant for gaming, and does me just fine in my day-to-day browsing, photo editing, general PC usage etc. It's comfortable and ambidextrous (if that's applicable to you). I love the hyperscroll for browsing. The buttons on the sides are also modular if you don't want to use them.
Why are they using the image from the core model.
Is it the Spectrum RGB for sure. I guess if there was a stuff up, you could dispute it via PayPal.
Torn, to buy or not to buy, because I already have 3 gaming mice…one is the old MX518 and still going great!!!
NVM..I see they've update the pics.
I was looking to upgrade/replace my broken G300 with the G303. What are your main problems with the G303 ? Or are you just wanting an upgrade.
I would get the G502 just worried I won't like the shape of it coming from the the G300.
I assume you are asking me.
I originally was tossing between buying the G303 and G502, and at the time decided on the G303 because it was newer and available to me for pickup.
Its a great mouse, but I am finding the shape does not really suit my hands, other then that its an awesome mouse.
I think the g502 will suit my hand better.
Thanks
Do you add the coupon after commit to buy? I'm used to adding it after adding items to the cart.
You can still add it to the cart from the item page. G502
Yep, you have to add the coupon after, so it seems like you're committing to buy for $83 or whatever, but you apply the coupon at the checkout.
Have used the 502 Proteus Core for some time now, the basic differences are what, more colour options and that's it? Anyone have/had both are care to comment?
For that price, it might be worthwhile to buy and keep my Proteus Core as a backup…Yep, that's the only difference.
I just bought the RGB version from wireless1 for $73 after the 20% off. Oh well.
free postage?

$70 at Harvey Norman
Not the same mouse bro. This one is the specrum with rgb lighting.
Ah thank you!
I actually thought so too, was going to buy it.
Can someone comment if this mouse is comfortable for palm grip with large hands?
I had it for a short while (bought from jb hi fi deal) and I can say it's really comfortable with palm grip with large hands, my hand completely sits on the mouse and clicking is comfortable as well.
Thanks :)
Should be fine but the mouse is known to be narrow for some.
Thanks :)
+1 for being too narrow for me
I have been using the core for about 12 months now and I must say I'm disappointed. I was coming from the legendary g9 so maybe it was unfair to expect the same level.
The laser occasionally stutters - google Proteus core stuttering. It's not a widespread issue, but its annoying.
The feet are not solid plastic, they're supported on foam and mine are starting to peel, so occasionally get caught - not expecting more than another year or 2 out of it.
The pattern on the mouse looks great, but it's hard to keep clean =P (I hate a gunky mouse)
Tldr: It's no g9, but for $50 its ok for a few years.
My proteus core was good for about a year but then turned south from there to the point where buttons become not programmable (ie the middle button doesn't open links in a new tab anymore, instead it minimizes my whole page for no reason - not a software issue and I can confirm that). I cleaned my mouse every few days and I still had that gunky issue that you speak off especially around the side where the pinky rests. To be fair I did use it quite a bit, often clocking 24-48 hours of gaming per week so in saying that perhaps my usage diminished the life span of the mouse more quickly than I expected.
You guys considered claiming on warranty? I had a dodgy cable on my first G502 which would cause the mouse to intermittently disconnect, I put in for warranty replacement (with the store I bought from, but I heard direct with Logitech is pretty painless) and had a replacement in no time.
At least that way, you either have a new mouse to use, or can sell the new one to buy a different one.
Can say I've suffered the stuttering issue with my G502.
It's been over a year for my one so the only option I have is to buy a new mouse. In saying that the 'normal' functions of the mouse is still there so it's still usable. Only the extra programmable buttons are fried (use to have one of them as my melee button but since then I've binded it to a keyboard key).
3-year warranty on the G502 Proteus Core: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-au/product/g502-proteus-core-t…
@matthewk85: Oh that's sweet! Honestly I don't have a single clue who I bought my mouse from lol I don't even remember what I ate for lunch!
lol, Logitech warranty info here: http://www.logitech.com/en-au/footer/terms-of-use/&id=3101
This is the specific process to claim through Logitech direct: http://support.logitech.com/en_au/article/warranty#submit_cl…It does state that you will need proof of purchase, so that's where you may run in to trouble: http://support.logitech.com/en_au/article/warranty#valid.
@matthewk85: I'll dig into my email inbox and see what comes up (I think I did buy mine from eBay which may or may not influence the result of my warranty claim). Thanks for that info mate I really appreciate it. Might be able to get myself a new mouse now :)
Paypal receipt is fine, it proves when you bought it. It may only be an issue if you bought it second hand, but if you purchased it from an eBay store it will be ok. Used it with Logitech i the past.
@watty:
Sorry my English is not good.
I bought G502 last year and last month i claimed the warranty replacement. After one month wait Logitech told me the G502 was out of stock so they could not do a warranty replacement for me and provides me with a G300s instead.
Later i called Logitech support and the staff told me there were only two options:
1 G300s, 2 full refund.i chose the option 2.@watty: Thank you for the information guys I'll dig up my paypal receipt and send it to them. Thanks again for all the replies :)
yes
That is cheap - check out the G900 for ~$200.
Ugh I want G900 though :P
forgive me for the rude comment, I just didn't realise people paid so much for mice :o
I've owned the G502 Proteus Core (same mouse, just blue lights) for about 2 years now. It's an amazing mouse. Well contoured, plenty of buttons without being a burden. The best feature by far is the configurable weights. Both position and weight make a major difference.
Well worth the money.
Hey Medrad,
Wanted to get your thoughts on the g502, do you reckon its comfortable for casual gaming and doing some work (are the macro buttons useful and placed well)?
Cheers
Hi EE.
It's a very comfortable mouse for casual gaming. I've used it for extended periods without any pains whatsoever. Keep in mind, my grip on a mouse is somewhere between a palm and a claw grip. I rest the "ball" of my palm on the mouse and have my fingers set similar to a cricket spin-bowl grip.
There is textured grips on the side that help with thumb/lateral finger pressure. Also useful with use of the macro buttons on the sides. In saying that, the side buttons aren't directly on the side, they sit on a slight angle towards the edge of the mouse. Very easy to press with either thumb or index finger depending on what you assign where. I honestly don't use the macro buttons often, but then if I trained myself, I could get used to them.
The biggest plus is the interchangeable weighting system underneath. I have a fairly heavy grip with my thumb so need more weight on the lateral aspect of the mouse. Full weight was too cumbersome over time, and no weight was way too light, like I needed the weight for feedback. I've figured I need the two weights near the "heal" of the mouse and one more towards the lateral side. So, 3/5 weights used.
The biggest feature I use regularly is the free-spin/click-spin of the mousewheel. There's a nicely placed switch-button below the mousewheel that engages the click or free-spin. I free-spin for documents and web browsing, but when gaming, set to click so I don't go past the next item I need. Very handing indeed.
I love the mouse, can't find a problem with it. All I can say is go find a model in a shop and give it a feel (or ask an assistant to check one out). Play with the weights, press the buttons, give it a good going over.
Perfect, I needed a replacement for MX518 (which was awesome for it's time), and wanted a mouse with the fast scroll wheel as well, and I didn't want to deal with recharging. Excellent price!
I was regretting missing out on the JB Hifi deal but seeing this pop up today = Gold. Love it. Can't wait to finally try this mouse out
Got one.
Cheers OPWhat an ugly looking mouse this is…..
Forgive my stupidity, but whenever I click on buy now it directs me to the commit to buy button.
Will I be able to still put in the 20% off code after clicking this?
Thanks
Yeah, you enter the code after committing, had me stumped for a while too. lol
Does anybody here reckon the G502 is a better all around mouse (for some gaming/general use) than the G900(purely for gaming)?
Opinions?
can this be price matched with officeworks?
From what I know OW don't price match ebay items.
Dammit. . Just purchased at 92 with 20% off…
