Is this one their best IPS panel for colour accuracy? Do they still use the same LG panel as the Thunderbolt Display?

    • +1

factory tuned at 99% sRGB with a deltaE of less than 3.

It's turning 2 years old soon. I'm waiting for OLEDS

      • +17

I've been waiting for OLED since 2007.

        • I was planning to go CRT -> OLED but got a cheap hand me down LCD :P

        • Got my OLED phone and I am never turning back!!!!

    • +6

No U2715H is not a wide gamut monitor (unlike U2713H which was wide gamut - Dell has the most confusing model numbering). Review at TFT Central.
      UP2716D is the current 27" wide-gamut monitor. $679.20 after 20% off.

    • +5

It's pretty decent, but certainly not the best. Dell do sell wide-gamut 100% Adobe RGB displays, but there are downsides to using these in everyday use. Unless you're strictly using proper colour managed applications that read the colour space from the profile, colours will look wrong and oversaturated as anything unmanaged will essentially default to something that tries to represent the sRGB space. Hope that makes sense…

      • Thanks for the explanation. I would only be working in non-sRGB colourspaces when editing digital photographs or creating scans in PhotoShop with Adobe RGB enabled. The vast majority of the time I (and your average folk) would be in sRGB mode.

    • Ok thanks heaps. Any thoughts on LG's 34UM95 by chance?

I have a Thunderbolt Display at home, which has been decent. I have the best Dell UltraSharp 24" from a few years back at work (sorry, can't recall the model number) which I also quite like, though the anti-glare coating does wash it out ever so slightly.

Wondering what my next purchase will be, minimum 27"? Would rather keep it under around the $1K-ish mark.

Edit: Kinda done with dual displays these days.

      • Just go for 4k imo.

1440p wide displays are nice until you use something like Samsung's 32" 4k display.

        • I know what you're saying, but with my work colour accuracy is more important to me than all-out resolution (1440p has been fine so far and pixel doubling has it's own annoyances).

Not sure the 4K displays are up to spec yet (at an affordable price point at least)? Happy to hear otherwise.

    • -1

No, this one is the cheap model.
For 27 inch dell monitor, you should buy dell U2715D. SE is selling it for $789

  • Tempting but I think I'll stick out for double 25"

    • +1

I was tossing up between this and the 25", but being only roughly $80 more than the current cheapest price of the 25", I decided to get the 27". Hopefully I made the right choice haha.

  • +1

I've got a 27" QHD monitor at the moment, looking to replace my 23" 1080p monitor. I was looking at 4K monitors and this Samsung 4K monitor is around $520 delivered. It's a TN panel, would that make much difference for web development/design? I've only ever had IPS displays.

Would it be better to get a good quality 1440p like the one above instead?

    • +2

I'd be wary of a large TN as the lack of color uniformity across a big panel isn't ideal. I bought ( and returned ) the Dell 27 G-sync TN monitor which was good except it had really average vertical color uniformity, so a flat color looked more like a gradient of color. Now I own an Asus ROG Swift IPS which is miles better.

I'd be inclined to go for an IPS monitor like this one, or at least try to demo the Samsung first to see how it looks. :)

      • Cheers, I have only seen a short video by Linus showing the differences - wasn't sure if a camera would record the differences properly. 4K IPS panels are a bit out of my price range at the moment, I might stick to a QHD. I love my QNIX monitor :D

      • How much was the Asus?

    • If it's anything like the 27" 4k they did I'd pass, that was a terrible monitor IMO

  • +1

Is this sharper than a victorinox

  • +1

Currently running the predecessor of this model (U2713H) for photo editing and I love it. Would pay twice the price for the quality I got. This is well worth $520.

    • +1

U2713H (which I have and also like apart from its firmware bugs!) is a better monitor than this one. The U2715H (which is not wide gamut) is more comparable to the lesser U2713HM.

      • Oh, didn't know about that. What firmware bugs have you encountered with the U2713H? I haven't had any issues with it at all.

        • Nothing too major (so I didn't bother returning it because I expected to get given a "refurb" in its place) but 1. USB is a bit flaky, 2. sometimes the monitor completely stops responding (just a black screen but with the backlight stuck on) and it needs to be turned off & on to get the picture back, and 3. a weird magenta rectangle appearing over the portion of the screen in which a video is playing (this one can be worked around by turning off one of the menu options (might have been Smart Video Enhance). But still reasonably happy with it. I just wish that firmware was user-upgradable!

        • +2

          @andrew1879:

I can totally relate to the issues you are having with the U2713H!!! I had on for about 2 years and just put up with the flakey USB, random black screens and shitty wake up from standby. But only about 6 weeks ago the USB hub completely stopped working so I returned it to Dell. Dell ended up sending me 3 refurbs which all had their own unique issues. After the 6 weeks of backwards and forwards I was furious and I told them I wasn't going to accept another refurb and requested the new UP2716D instead. After more stuffing around, they obliged. So if you do decide to return it, be prepared for constant returns and first name basis with your local startrack courier!!!

        • @pullmyfinger:

What's your experience with UP2716D? I also have a U2713H with similar problems. Annoying but I can live with it. Not sure if it's worth the trouble to try to exchange for a UP2716D.

    • I have two of these and have been great monitors. Never updated firmware on it though.
One I think it's playing up or it's the VC…I get lines going through it from time to time and turning the monitor on and off seems to fix it.

      • The firmware is not user upgradeable.

  • Been looking for this. Thanks for posting!

  • What a bargain $560 Dell UltraSharp U2715H delivered!

  • I have dual monitors 24 inch monitors 1920x1200 so the resolution is 3840x1200

Is it possible to have these monitors in the same setup or will I encounter issues? would love to upgrade to 4k.

Its good being able to have a movie / tv show on one monitor and web browser open on the other do two things at once :)

I'm kinda restricted by the height of the monitor so easier to run dual setup

    • As long as your video card supports the higher resolution it'll work. You may need DVI-D (dual-link DVI) or Displayport outputs rather than HDMI depending on the card. Aside from that there's the ergonomic consideration of having large monitors offset from centre to think about.

  • Very disappointed with Dell after sale service. I purchased the 27in u2711 a fews years ago. About a year ago half of the screen started to flicker randomly. I work fifo so i didnt have time to ring n claim warranty. A few weeks ago the flickering issues happened perminantly so I called Dell. All they offered me was to Dell me a new monitor. There was no offered of repair (which I would be happy to pay for) it direct me to an authorised repairor.

    Think twice before purchasing Dell.

    • +1

As far as I know, Dell never had good post sale services. Good monitor tho

    • I'd be surprised if other manufacturers would be any better though. Just take it to a local TV repairer. But yes I also find it disappointing that repair (outside of warranty) seems to be a foreign concept to most electronic manufacturers these days.

      • I would but after ringing around and being told that it would cost me $100+ for them to just quote me for the repair costs and only providing me with a 30day guarantee, I think ill pass and just buy new monitor.

    • In worked for a company for a company that has Dell supplied IT gear for over 10years. Even when we had to claim some that was either in or outside of the warranty period, Dell were outstanding. It's a pitty that they can procide the same high quality for non corporate customers.

    • +1

      Was it in warranty ??

Still got the monitor? Might be worth having a try to repair it yourself as may be just some dirty contacts. They can be a bitch to crack open though (I repaired my U2311H a while back as it had a dead CCFL that I managed to replace… quite an effort for that).

      https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing+Dell+U2711+Display+Fl…

If its a dead CCFL causing the issue then it would be much more difficult to repair than above link.

      • Yeah I was aware that this was a common issue for this model and found a YouTube clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6md9BfhG8w)that stepped through how to open the monitor (I used a guitar pick). I tried to fix it myself after having no luck with dell.

I opened it 3 times, removed the metal housing that held the boards together, sprayed the connectors with a compressed air bottle without any luck.

Im kicking myself for not claiming the issues within the warranty period. I even emailed dell with articles and video clips (as well as mine) to prove that others have had the same issues, but dell just didn't give a shit and told me that they would have a sales person call me to sell me a new monitor. They were stupid enough to try and tell me that plugging it into some dell laptops caused the issue, even though I told them that I had mine plugged into my videocard, and also tested it on 2 other PCs.

  • If you are looking for something smaller, they have U2414H for $268 delivered.

  • A new monitor is of mid-interest to me atm, but low priority. As such I've been looking in a lower price range, but would consider this monitor if it's worth the price difference. I'm aware of the risks for Korean monitors, but am not well equipped to compare the hardware specs, if I'm willing to wait and would prefer a lower price would waiting for a ebay wide sale and getting a Crossover (or equivalent) 27" 2560x1440 monitor be just as viable?

  • So tempted, I read the TFTcentral review, it seems that it is OK for gaming. Does anyone have any experience with this monitor + gaming?

    • Don't really play a lot of games but casually playing overwatch and it's fine.

    • If you have DP then it is good value for money

  • Good price. Would have like 2 of these if I can afford it! :)

  • Very nice monitor. I would have rathered actual buttons than capacitive ones. This is tempting me to get a second monitor and put them side by side.

  • anyone know if this is compatible with macbk pro.

    • +1

I was going to ask what year it was made but even the 2006 MacBook pro supports external resolutions up to to 2560 by 1600 pixels, so I think you should be fine, especially if your MacBook Pro has a Mini DisplayPort / Thunderbolt port.

I've been using one of these screens with my Retina MacBook Pro for the last 6 months if that helps.

      • +1

        thanks Stoz. appreciate ur feedback

  • Should I get:

    1) 3x 1080p 144hz monitors
    2) 3x 1440p 60hz monitors
    3) 1 1440p 60hz + 2x 1080p 60hz monitors (or 144hz for both)

I want 3 monitors for a sim racing build but good screens are so expensive. What do you guys reckon?

    • +1

      3 x 1080p for sim racing

You don't even need 144hz, 60hz will do

But if money is not problem, you probably should go for 1440p. I don't think it's worth to get 144hz monitor for sim racing, hardly make any difference.

    • +1

Would 34" ultrawide be immersive enough?

Acer Predator X34 - 34" curved, 3440x1440, 100Hz w/ G-sync, IPS display. Maybe not the best of all worlds, but certainly the best compromise.

    • +1

      I'd go 3 x 1200P. ;)

You can pick the U2415 for $368 a pop. The extra height is worth it, plus they have a really nice and thin bezel.

Or go the higher res ones if you don't mind spending more. Or if on a total budget, the U2414H is $286. Thin border. 3 of them would be nice, only 1080p.

  • IMPORTANT: BEWARE: HDMI is not HDMI 1.4 and will not support full 1440p resolution, and if you can change your graphics cards settings to force it, it will not be at 60hz. You need a DP connection to use this monitor properly. Vote up so people are aware of this before they buy.

    • +2

Are you sure? p12 of user guide states "Video input signals: HDMI 1.4 (MHL 2.0)*…"
Dell forum post here says that it does 2560x1440@60Hz over HDMI.

    • +1

Seems to work for me: 1440p @ 60Hz over HDMI.

      • Nice thats good to hear. Can you check your on screen display (OSD) menu to verify that it says 1440p at 60hz?

        • Sorry I lied, just checked the source on both my screens and they are mini DP. I had an issue with all my monitors which I narrowed down to 2 faulty cables causing artefacts on 3 monitors. I have swapped so many cables I lost track!

        • @derfel.cadarn: Thanks for checking though! Do you have a HDMI cable to test with?

  • Does anyone know the warranty period if buying from this deal? Thanks

  • Bah. I must have just missed this one, I've spent a year looking for decent 27in Dell monitor deals and always missed the boat. Yesterday morning I bought a Samsung C27F591 27in Curved monitor for $480 from JB Hifi. Its an absolutely awesome monitor (just released) which supports Freesync across HDMI but it's only 1920x1080 res. Probably just as well as my graphics card isn't going to push much higher that that in games.

    • Unfortunately, Nvidia and AMD have fractured the monitor market; new gaming monitors are either Freesync compatible (only works for AMD GPUs) or GSync (Nvidia only), and 'NGreedidia' seem to be charging vendors a $200 premium for using G-Sync.

      • This is true, the G-Sync tax is preposterous. AMD have finally picked up the ball with drivers this year and if the rumors are true they will have a competitively priced polaris mainstream card out before Christmas. I am very happy with the freesync capabilities on the Samsung, it's been excellent for gaming so far.

  • Out of stock. Got one in time

  • Anyone has very bad backlight bleeding like this? Hopefully Dell or Futu will do something about this :(
    http://imgur.com/a/7Rtqn

    • Whoa that's bad, but pretty common for IPS unfortunately.

    • Can I ask When did you receive the monitor?

      • I received the monitor on Monday 06/06/2016.

        • Thanks a lot for the response.I tried to send the ebay message to Futu, but no response.I have to raise a request through ebay, maybe will request a refund from Paypal if no futher response. What's going on with this seller??

        • @stelsa:
It took three days for the seller to reply my first message. Now I am waiting for the second reply about DOA.

        • @wlqrichard: I sent the first email on 8/6.I don't know how long it will take for them to reply back.Totally hopeless!I am going to give them negtive feedback and charge back from paypal!

        • @stelsa: Did you end up getting a refund? If so how long did it take?

        • @Karza: sorry, I tried to reply your comment, but ending to post a new one.

        • @Karza:
          @stelsa:
Quote from the reply "please return the unit to us and we can fix it for you or fully refund for you."

They gave me a pre paid label yesterday to send it back, but I don't know it will be refund or fix.

    • End up received a replacement unit instead of refund. It still has a bit backlight bleed on the top left, so I just have to live up with it. Its manufacture date is May 2016 Rev 03.

  • paid on 2/6,but the monitor still hasn't been shipped out,has anyone got the same experience?

    • I ordered the Dell U2414H on 2/6 from Futu Online and it still hasn't shipped. Messaged last week and they said they'd send on Fri or Tues (yesterday). The experience reminds me of dealing with chinese web stores, the majority of customers are happy but good luck if there is a problem. I still want the monitor as the price was good so won't be requesting a refund yet, but won't buy from them again and will be leaving bad feedback.

      • So have gone and had another look at the listing for the monitor. Since the sale started Futu Online have sold 67 units at the discounted price, that's $17,956 of customer's money or without discount $22,445. I'm not sure if Ebay covers the discount or the seller or a bit of both. Either way on this one item they have had a nice deposit in their account and you'd think they could take the time to send one email to explain what the situation is. Also considering Dell no longer lists this item on their website I'm interested to know where they are going to find this stock to cover these sales. Worst Ebay seller I've ever transacted with!

        • I should add no-one has left any feedback for this item except one neg for not received so I'm assuming none of the 67 orders have been filled.

  • Finally I got one reply from them explaining they had stock issue with Dell and it's been resolved and the order will be shipped out soon.Did you receive the order by courier?
