Considering the GTX1070 is likely to come in at about $600 and comfortably beats the 980 in benchmarks I wouldn't really recommend this.

    • +10

Doubt it will be $600 AUD… considering the GTX 1080 is priced at >$1000, I'm thinking GTX 1070 would be around $800 AUD at this point… won't know until it is actually released though.

Really hope it will be $600 cause that would make more sense…

      • +6

$379 US RRP for the 1070 is about $530 AU. Shipping from Newegg or Amazon should bring it in well under $600 if you can live with some warranty hassles.

I thought nvidia only released founders edition, so can you find any of the pascal cards that actually are at the MSRP?

        • +3

@Oversimplified: The 1070 isn't available at all yet.

The 1070 Founders edition comes with an even crappier cooler without the vapor chamber, so you'd be stupid not to wait for better, cheaper models.

        • +1

@Oversimplified: Aftermarket stuffs are coming out afterwards, all manufacturers already announced aftermarket 1080, so once they're available, you'll get a good idea of when the aftermarket 1070 would (maybe even sooner!). And the price is all ranged from the MSRP and definitely below the Founders' Edition card, so nevertheless most of the first wave of aftermarket cards would be cheaper than FE.

I recall hearing one of the higher-end cooler from… MSI or EVGA (I think, I forgot where I saw it last week) was only 20-40USD more expensive than the MSRP, they also have the MSRP-priced models and they're blower-styled and most likely still better than FE's.

        • That's definitely a possibility. I will wait for it to be released in Aus before passing judgement on whether I'd get it.

      • +1

Well, at worst… people would have the option to import from Amazon or Newegg, which would bring it below retailers' pricing.

      go home mwave, you're drunk

Have you seen the price of GTX 1080 though? We get screwed over so badly in Australia.
Even if I just add GST on Founders' edition (which was around USD $450?) and use XE exchange rate, it comes out to $700 AUD… The retailers added $200 on GTX 1080, so I am kinda worried how much we'd pay in Australia for GTX 1070.

      • +1

Yep, I kinda feel like every AU retailer is screwing us over because they can… Collusion much?

        • I assume it's a mixture of oligopoly plus the situation that Australia is in. I kind of think it's unavoidable for Australian consumers to face this kind of pricing.

      • +2

you think you have it bad.. My favourite NZ parts supplier has the GTX1080 starting at $1500nz (1400aud) for example http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp…

    • If the 1080 price kick for AU is anything to go by the 1070 will be priced around $800 AUD.

    • +1

Not only that, but 980GTX and 970GTX also doesn't support 4K content protection, means that it will NOT be compatible with 4K Ultra HD movie with content protection.

    • The GTX1070 is coming comments are not going to go away even though we all know….

  • +2

Still u would expect a price drop on this once the 1080 comes out, right?

  • -3

all i can think of saying is: LOL

    • +1

      Yet you upvoted…?

      • +1

sure. its good price. but if u get it now youre mad.
        lol

  • +2

LMAO, who thought they could sell this now obsolete card for $600.

Given the 1070 is at least 50% more powerful at lower power consumption and is likely to be no more than $700/- on release this deal is shiite. Also NVIDIA's track record of poor support for non-current GPUs with drivers should give any prospective buyers pause.

I would say that even at $400/- this would not be a great deal.

    • +5

its not obsolete until the 1070 has been released and well priced.

      • +13

Enjoy your week of not being obsolete.

        • +3

OH WHAT A DAY. WHAT A LOVELY DAY.

        • +1

          @ryang: WITNESS ME!

        • +3

@ProjectZero: I had a little 980! It was perfect, perfect in every way!

  • Where that Asus Strix 1080?

  • I'll take it for $250

  • Guys wait for the 1070. The founders editors on release will be $799~ so after that the prices will be down to about $699 or so. Much much better performance and longevity. Unless you're impatient and some reason Need this now.

A true ozbargainer not only looks at the price but looks at value over time. The 1070 will stay relevant a very long time.
