In 2016, 1600x900 is really nasty. I hate my 19" 16:9 monitors that use that res, yet I have no problem with older 4:3 that run at 1280x1024.
It's not that the pixels are visible on 1600x900, but those missing 180 pixels (compared to 1920x1080) or 300 pixels (compared to 1920x1200) in the vertical really makes a big difference to the available screen real estate.
This becomes very apparent in software where the idiot developers going to the massively wasteful "ribbon" and "metro icon" style menus and toolbars. The actual space to work is so small that only 900 pixels severely limits usability.
Friends don't let friends buy less than FHD now days.
For a few bucks more you can get an FHD 22"… $129.00

19" is only useful if you're really space impaired or you need them for an industrial installation like a POS setup.
