To check the cheapest place to buy any book just use www.booko.com.au.
This will show you the cheapest place including shipping.
For example the Twilight novel advertised at $17.59 (excluding shipping can be had for $11.80 INCLUDING shipping http://www.booko.com.au/books/isbn/9781904233916
I'm tempted to neg you for using Twilight as an example :p
Yeah, maybe you sholuld change your id to macfangirl
Might want to put the store's name in the title, instead of 'new online store.'
Nowhere near 60% discount showing on the front page "best selling books" examples, and I'm not liking the prices showing. No bargains.
I agree with Mazley, the rep needs to list a few good bargains otherwise it's just a general advertisement.
Cheers for the feedback guys, still new to OzBargain so finding out how it all works. Will post up individual deals in future :D
MightyApe, may I suggest you edit this post to show a few of your definite bargains from this sale otherwise I can see you copping a few negs.
I think you better start amending your post and putting some good individual deals quickly, this isn't a place for free advertising!
I wondered where the email spam came from having never heard of this mighty ape.
Seaching back thru some old emails I see it was originally known as GamePlanet - gpstore.co.nz
Changed its name a couple of years ago as it started to sell more than just games.
Looking through there about us section they seem quite legit and shipping is cheap however checking on their blurays there was nothing there I would consider a bargain, I may look in on them again next time I'm looking for something
Please be specific about the bargains.
What suprises me is that people are opening online stores without any competitive advantage. Nothing stands out from this site for example but they still invest money to open one and expect an income.
Online environment is extremely price sensitive. you cant just pop up a store and expect money to flow in without very competitive prices.
Especially for dvd/bluray/book, Australian retailers are not the the only ones you need to compete; Amazon UK, dvd.co.uk etc are your real strong competitors.
Smells like an ad for me.
No deal
4 negative votes and this post is this here hmmmm
prices are ordinary
bookdepository
http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9781905654376/Twilight
good prices there!
Some new code has been pushed up yesterday to give merchants some "grace period" before it disappears completely. Currently it is 6 hours. Looks like some tuning is needed…
Agree. Otherwise 6 hours free advertisement for them.
I agree with a grace period. I haven't voted as I am giving the rep a chance to edit.
Thanks, I did attempt to re-edit the post when I saw the initial feedback but the banhammer was very swift and I was not LOL.
I'll have to wait out this temporary ban till next week, and I'll post up individual deals. We have daily deals that refresh each morning so I'll pick out the best of them to submit here :D
i think it should depend on the number of negative votes
ones with 5 or more with numerous comments…. GONE
Okay. I will see what I can cook up later today.
Scotty
Another way to look this…
with so many neg votes and so few (nil at time of posting this comment) it gives extremely bad publicity to the OP/biz. I think this serves as a useful warning to them and other potential biz (unless it is a case of all publicity is good publicity but somehow i dont think so). Ozbargainers are a pretty savvy bunch and dont like to waste their time or money so will see the overwhelming neg votes and avoid this organisation). I think this is a good example of the use of negative voting. something to consider…
thats a good point
it'll be good for the mod to post in the topic the so call bargains from the rep
and the bargains we found
post some deals now here in the comments section
it might convince me to change my vote (as long as its a bargain, even if i want it or not)
Dragon Age: Origins (Xbox 360) — $49.99 (save $60)
The Saboteur PC Games (PC) — $49.99 (save $59.96)
James Cameron's Avatar: The Game Collector's Edition (PS3) — $54.99 (save $65)
Dark Knight, The (2 Disc Set) (DVD) — $16.99 (save $27.96)
Very very weak prices, only marginally better than retail stores and significantly worst than other online retailers.
Why would I waste nearly $100 buying a game from an online store, when I can the game for ~3/4 of the price at EB. I mean seriously, you're more expensive than EB?
EDIT: Example

saboteur on pc
36 bucks
LOL
What's the record -ve votes we've ever had?
dunno but we can try to set one here
We'd prefer not to set any types of records lol. We've taken the negative votes and feedback onboard and will endeavour to put up more enticing deals in future.
cheers mate
as a benchmark
cdwow
bookdepository
zavvi
jbhifi
ebgames
game.com.au
should be used to test prices
most have no postage aswell
some are from uk
but without natural disasters, postage time is quite good (usually)
More specifically re EB: try not to charge more than them.
Cool thanks for the suggestions, will definitely do that.
In future I'm going to highlight individual deals from our daily deals page. The pricing is often below cost there, so I'll pick out the really good ones to highlight as they come up. I think you guys will appreciate those more than the catch all "up to 60%" type sales (as evidenced here LOL).
Nice work look forward to the next post
Hey at least the Ape is taking the criticism constructively…..
plus he hasn't gotten the worst deal of the week, centrecom stole the award in the last minute. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/24952
haha yeah!! Centrecom's Deal count is -25 and counting!! haha
could you post some of the good deals you have? up to 60% off seems a bit like advertising to me, especially when I can't really see anything that stands out on your front page (though I don't have any idea about book prices lol)
