Extra 10c/Litre off Fuel with Purchase of 2x Quilton 3-Ply White Toilet Paper (20 Pack) for $20 @ Coles Express

130

Grabbed this deal at checkout at Colesexpress Gardenvale off Nepean Hwy.

I saved an extra $7+ as I'd filled my tank with over 70 litres of petrol. It's the same price for the toilet paper packs at Coles.

Not sure if this is a nationwide offer or even Victoria-wide. Will remove the post if it's location specific.

you fill up with half and half?
    why?

    • Perhaps he filled two cars up? If not, then yeah… strange.

    • I normally go for 95 Octane but they don't have any pumps for that.

    • That's true but with the usually inflated prices at Colesexpress for groceries you'd stugggle to find something to buy to add up to $20.

      • I believe milk, toilet paper, newspaper and bread are generally same price as supermarkets.

        • milk

None of the Coles Express outlets have the Coles-branded $2 for 2l milk, so "same price" is only true if you buy the more expensive brands. I've not seen the cheap bread either.

        • @Russ: mine is basically a mini coles due to the range of "cheap" groceries they have in store.

Please consider supporting our farmers by buying branded milk and other dairy products.

From what I have seen in the news, it's the milk processors/wholesalers ripping off the farmers. Buying a more-expensive retail brand puts more money into the hands of the retailers, not the farmers.

If my belief is wrong, please provide links to show otherwise.

        • @whodidthat:

          Ours has Coles-branded $2 for 2l milk

Good to hear that. Perhaps it has to do with the nearness of a Coles or Woolies supermarket. Where I live, in inner-city Brisbane, no servo is more than a 5-minute drive from a supermarket. Does your servo have nearby competition from a full-size supermarket?

        • @EarlyBird:

The article you linked agrees with me, saying "you were supporting local farmers by buying their products because they used Australian milk."

On the Coles milk bottle in front of me, it says "All our fresh milk is 100% Australian milk. This milk is bottled by an Australian Farming Co-op."

So by buying the cheapest milk, I'm doing what the article says, I'm supporting Australian dairy farmers. Buying a more-expensive Australian brand won't increase the money that the farmers receive.

          @Russ:

The two large milk processing companies that have cut their farm gate milk prices dramatically are the ones that are supplying Coles & Woolies with the $1/litre milk. The popularity of this cheap milk over an extended period is what's causing the problem. It's being used as a loss-leader, with our farmers as pawns in their price war.

          @EarlyBird:

So the middleman is screwing the primary producers, and the primary producers have nowhere else to go. The middleman is the problem here, along with the market dominance of Coles and Woolies. This is what naturally happens with monopolies and duopolies. Paying the middlemen more is unlikely to get back to the farmers, and here's an article where a dairy farmer explicitly says "… is skeptical of how much of that money will make it back to farmers."

          http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/story/3915057/jamberoo-da…

Coles and Woolies are abusing their market power, just as they did a couple of years ago with vege suppliers. Except they've gotten a bit smarter about how they do it, so the ACCC probably can't fine them this time.

Is this really any different to the vege situation a couple of years ago?
          http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/coles-to-pay-…

It's a result of what happens when you get a "free market", combined with the way we remunerate company executives. It's not good for the long-term survival of the industry, but it is good for the short-term pays of the executives in control of the industry. And if the retail prices increase, the middlemen will pocket the money because there's nothing to stop them.

And to top it all off, at least one of the brands recommended (Liddells) in the article you linked to, is a retail brand of one of the companies that the articles is criticising, Murray Goulburn:
          http://www.mgc.com.au/our-products/brands/

          P.S. I can't read your facebook link, I'm not a member.

I think a lengthy discussion on this weighty matter belongs in the forums.

Suffice to say that we don't get cheap $2 milk without somebody else ended up paying for it, and in this case, struggling farmers are telling us it's hurting them and their families. That's not a fair go and collectively we can put an end to it by paying fair prices for their produce.

        • I believe milk, toilet paper, newspaper and bread are generally same price as supermarkets.

          or cheaper:

Pura Light Start 1% Fat (or Full Cream) Milk 2L 2-for-$6 ($1.50/L) @ Coles Express [VIC/SA/TAS]

I thought these discounts were agreed to be stopped with the ACCC?

OP, did you mix the two different fuels in the same vehicle, or did you fill up two different vehicles ?

Do many people do that … mix two different fuels ?

    • +1

I used to do same with my duel fuel commodore. 60L petrol + 64L gas.

I have grabbed this offer since 10cent off was launched.

    • I always mix the two fuels when they don't have 95 Octane.

  • +1

That particular Coles express is routinely one of the most expensive servos for fuel.

    • +1

Lately Coles outlets have been more expensive. I have found the Franchise Caltex servo down the road 4-5 cents cheaper consistently. Even at 4 cents cheaper I'd rather not use a voucher at Coles and shop at the franchise store.

      • Now a days BP's much cheaper.

    • That particular Coles express is routinely one of the most expensive servos for fuel.

Didn't know that. Perhaps you could suggest a few least expensive servos around the area?

  • +1

meh, Coles is having Sorbent 12 pack for $3.75, so for 24 rolls of toilet papers cost $7.5, with this one you got 20 rolls for $14 (with your $7 saved on total bill). Unless you're medically prescribed to use Quilton 3 ply then there's no saving on this deal until the Sorbent deal expires.

    • I actually prefer Quilton to Sorbent. It's much softer and it says: "Quilton loves your bum" :-)

  • This deal has been there for awhile. Unless you have a full tank to fill and you live close by or are driving pass a coles express, it's not worth using them. They are generally 5-6 cents more than the other servos.

    • This week, our Coles express was $1.02 for unleaded (less with discount). Nearby is $1.20 and Woolworths $1.24

      • It is just because your servo delay the start of next petrol cycle. IMO coles is always more expansive/ slower to reduce the price.

        • There hasn't been a petrol cycle here since around Anzac Day.
Prior to that, Woolworths was 92.5c, then they all upped prices to $1.24. Some came down a few days after to $1.20.

  • If ulp is 121.9, woollies in area is 115.9, combine with 4c plus $5 in store spend and its 107.9 which is same price without having to spend as much in store.

    • Drove passed two local Colesexpresses this morning. Both showing 110.9¢ for ULP after 4¢ discount.

  • Man, what's wrong with you lot!!!

This has been available for over a year!!! I do the same thing every month..

    • +3

Hmm.. that's an awful lot of loo paper you go through every month. I guess Quilton loves your bum and vice versa.

      • Yeh I'm full of shit

        • Why the self-deprecation? It was only light-hearted banter.

        • Cos its true… I poop too much…

          And then I get tired….

  • Yes my Coles Express is routinely 5c more than the Woolies Caltex next door (effectively negating the normal 4c discount). Check the pricing before applying any discounts folks

  • Coles express near me yesterday 122.9 without a voucher B.P & caltex both 117.9 7eleven 115.9 and Woolies today was at 116.9 so spend $5 in store and with their voucher you'd pay 108.9

  • You need to adjust your savings. Factor in Coles express prices are like 4c to 6c more expensive then other places. I havent bought petrol at Coles Express for ages now bc of their bs pricing
