    • That's good price but with extra $0.60 you get delivered.

      • Maybe just add it to the 'Also available at' list. Some people prefer C&C/TGG, plus you can also add CR for another $6.72 cashback.

Looks like David Jones is the cheapest place to buy from if one uses David Jones gift cards bought from the AMEX deal. Otherwise, pricematching at The Good Guys and then pay with AMEX would reduce the price by further $50 (second cheapest option).

    • It would work out to be $335.06 if purchased online from DJ using cash rewards and $40 amex rebate offer.

      • That's another option. I was thinking about skipping cashrewards altogether and purchase one in-store with DJ gift cards bought with AMEX offer ($200 GC + something small to avoid shipping fee), effectively bringing the price down to ~$320

        • If you have 2 gift cards that would be the cheapest option.

  • Can't be that special of a deal if it's the same price at other shops.

Dyson is blowing some serious hot air with a space heater for $400

  • I have these and they are honestly amazing. The only issue is that they get loud.

    • Mine is only about as loud as the planes flying over my house haha. I can only ever have the speed on 1.

    • That would annoy me very quickly.
I've been tempted a few times by the Dyson, despite the price, but still cant commit to the buy

      • The best feature is compared to normal heaters, it doesn't make the room humid and me thirsty while I'm sleeping. It does turn off when it reaches the temp you set it at, but yes, the noise is a downside.

Compared to errr… what? Normal heaters don't make the room humid either.

and me thirsty while I'm sleeping

True. However no other heater can do that either, so it's hardly a point of difference.

It does turn off when it reaches the temp you set it at,

Wow… you mean the Dyson does exactly the same thing as almost every other electric heater on the planet?

Thanks for being a patronizing ass.

          @jubbing:

Sorry, I didn't mean to be.

The "features" were so obtuse that I thought you were being facetious or sarcastic, so I was just playing along.

          Were you serious?

    • There is hardly any air blowing out of these. It is good if you are just using it to warm the room.

      • It is good if you are just using it to warm the room.

Errrr… and the other purpose of a heater would be?

In any case, if "There is hardly any air blowing out of these" then that means it is BAD if you are just using it to warm the room.

        • I prefer directional heating.

        • They have a cool mode as well which is kinda sucky since if the air is hot, it just blows warmish air out, while being exceptionally loud.

        • @jubbing:

if the air is hot, it just blows warmish air out

Luckily, the Dyson doesn't blow very much of that warmish air nor does it blow it very hard.

    • What model do you have? as the new ones are not as loud as the older models now

  • Cheers ˙ ͜ʟ˙

  • How much does this cost to run? Was looking to use more to heat or am i better spending on something cheaper?

    • +1

      1300 watts.

      Appliance rating (watts): 1300
      Running hours per week: 35
Calculate Estimated annual usage Energy: 2366 kWh
      Running cost: $477.93
      Greenhouse emissions: 2271 kg CO2

So if you run it for 5 hrs per day for the 4 coldest months of the year then running costs would be $120 ($40/month)

Was looking to use more to heat or am i better spending on something cheaper?

All electric heaters are EXACTLY the same efficiency.

So, this will not cost less to run or be more efficient or save energy or work better or anything compared to a $20 fan heater from The Reject Shop.

The only difference is that the Dyson has a poorer performing and less efficient fan system and makes a lot more noise. That doesn't detract from the efficiency of heating, it just means that the device as a whole performs worse than cheaper units.

Oh, and at 1300W (if that is correct) it's just over HALF the heat output as a normal fan heater (usually 2000W or 2400W). I which case you will be running it longer (or need to buy and run 2 x Dysons) to provide the same amount of warmth.

This Dyson is a decorative device for people who thing it's trendy to have utility devices on display. Personally I think that heaters should be felt but not seen. I'd never buy one of these, as I consider them are a wank and a waste of money.

      • I didn't think anyone actually bought these…guess I thought wrong

      • Well they (Dyson) never said it was a replacement of heater or does better than a 'normal' heater. It just does the job better to an extent, the reason why it uses that amount of watts is because they have the technology to keep it low and the temperature is only 37 degrees anyways as it is done so to match our body temperatures.

        • Well they (Dyson) never said it was a replacement of heater or does better than a 'normal' heater.

          Errrrr…. WOT?

It just does the job better to an extent

It fails as a heater AND as a fan. That means it is worse, not better.

the reason why it uses that amount of watts is because they have the technology to keep it low

The reason is because they don't have the technology to make it high without melting the housing.

and the temperature is only 37 degrees anyways as it is done so to match our body temperatures.

          Oh… ummm… OK then.

    • I noticed a bump in my elec bill using these to be honest. Not too much, but enough to notice.

I noticed a bump in my elec bill using these to be honest. Not too much, but enough to notice.

Yep, that's what happens when you use electricity. Bummer, eh?

The best solution is an extension lead, and plug into your neighbour's power outlet instead of yours.

  • David Jone appears to be sold out.

    • Never mind. I found it by searching for the model number. It didn't come up when I searched Dyson fans. Other models did. Price pal also offers cash back and I have found them more reliable. I used Amex and got instant notification of my $40 cashback

  • AM09 replaces this model.

    • Much of an upgrade?

      • +1

        Less noise

  • With this kind of price wouldn't it be better to get an air. Con unit? May be even the portable one?

  • I wanted to buy this but it is too loud. We have one on our office and no one turns it on because anything above speed 1 it sounds like an f16 jet.

Also air doesnt blow far like a proper fan would do. Checkout YouTube reviews, this problem still remains on the new model

It's one of dysons worst products imo

    • We have one on our office and no one turns it on because anything above speed 1 it sounds like an f16 jet.

Well, that certainly makes it more energy efficient than a normal heater.

  • +1

Gimmick. I will buy this as toy when the price is around 30.

  • Are these Veblen goods? $399 on special- stone the crows.

  • +1

I've got one - can't believe I was so stupid to pay so much for such an average product. Works no better than a $20 one. Loud. Forget it.

  • FYI - This has a 60 day refund policy from Dyson

  • How does this compared to Reverse Cycle Split System in terms of electricity consumption?

    • It depends on the air conditioner, and also what region (climate) you live in.

They don't make air conditioners with heat output this low, so there is no direct comparison possible.

As a general rule, the lowest COP of any Air Conditioner legally allowed to be sold in Australia would be 3.0, so for a given amount of heat output the A/C will use less than 1/3 of the power. But it depends on many factors, primarily the amount of latent heat in the outside air… for example you cannot easily get heat from the outside if it's the Antarctic.

My sister is a Dyson fangirl I wanted to get one as I liked the fanless fan idea so I went and checked hers and it was too loud for me
sounds like hand held hair dryer …… so I bought a $20 nice and quiet fan instead :)
