Armor All Custom Black & Clear (Plastidip) - 396g for $10 @ Supercheap Auto

830

Supercheap Auto is discontinuing their Armor All Custom Shield Black & Clear for $10 for a 396g can.

Basically the same thing as plastidip for a fraction of the cost. Plastidip cans are also 311grams where as the Armor All is 396grams.

I purchased them last week for $15 each, they are a steal now but would probably be hard to find. Last time I checked there was two remaining at the Underwood Store (QLD). Supercheap Auto will be discontinuing the Armor All Custom Shield.

Looks like its available for home delivery. Pickup might be hard to find a store.

Good deal though bought three cans

    • +7

      Upvote it then?

      • +2

Wtf? He never down voted so why is his comment neg'd so hard?

        • Cheers i dont understand Aids comment. All i said was its hard to find in stores so home delivery is your best bet to get some?

  • +2

For anyone that purchased it with a club card last week you can get the difference credited to your loyalty card. Got $20 back so basically got it for $10 too =]

  • I have used Plastidip and I am quite happy with the result. I wonder how does the quality compare to that of Plastidip?

    • +4

Exactly the same. Performix Brand products is the manufacture of Plasti Dip and also manufactures Armor All Custom Shield. The contents of these two cans is exactly the same product

      • Anyone have an idea of how many cans would be needed to do 4 wheels? My car came with some really crappy plastidip applied and I want to re-do them temporarily. 4 cans? 2 cans?

        • based on the few forums posts I just read roughly a can per 15-16'' wheel to make sure you get a solid 4-5 coats on, I dunno if that's based off us oz-sized cans or what, I figure if I buy it and don't need all the can per wheel then I've got some spares for when the finish starts to degrade - https://www.reddit.com/r/plastidip/comments/2a5r9s/how_many_…

        • @Howizzle:

Yeah I had a look but didn't see what a normal sized can was. I might go with 5 just in case as I've got 17s. Thanks

          @nafe:

3 cans for my 16inch rims

        • +2

@nafe: these are big cans, 4 will do

        • +1

if you've plasti-dipped your wheels before, 4 cans might be sufficient. i stuffed up my first attempt and had to re-do them. so 5 cans, to be cautious

  • Out of interest what was the original RRP?

    • +1

Was $20 not too long ago. I was waiting for it to drop and saw it at $15 last week. This week it's now $10.

  • IS this stuff safe to use on cars that have had paint protection applied?

  • Any pep'ers on ozb?

  • +12

Use Code PARTS10 for 10% off as well. Good if you can pick up order instore.

    • You can buy supercheap gift cards at woolies and get 5.5% off by using cashrewards egiftcard too.

  • Any idea if this protects against road rash?

    • +7

Road rash, one of the best Sega mega drive games.

    • it provides some protection, but obviously not as much as a car bra

      • The old car bra! didn't think they still existed. Notorious for rubbing against your paint and dulling the clear coat.

New technology, although its still been around for years is an optically clear Paint Protection film. Doesn't get better than this stuff for stopping rocks e.g http://www.supremevinyl.com.au/clear.html

        • I can believe it. I've seen a similar trend for motorcycling tank bags where it used to be very popular for owners to buy permanent tank bag mount/cover only to find when it came to selling their bikes their fuel tanks were heavily scuffed.

  • Thanks OP +1

Picked up 2x Blk and 2xClear at store in Midland, WA

1xClear and about 15xBlack left. But hard to find in shop so might save you some by asking at counter.

  • You can get a can for $5 if you sign up for the loyalty card using this.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/243802
    That's one can though.

    • wouldn't be worth buying one with the $13.95 shipping

      • then buy 10.

        • i was saying it wouldn't be worth getting one can for $5 as R3X said. of course you'd buy multiple to dilute the shipping cost.. can's rant effectively $5 though.. more like $9.50

    • how do you use the credit, just signed up, can see it on my account but can't apply it?

      • +1

it will show up as one of your payment methods

        • hmm i think i might have to wait til i get the physical card and activate that. Bummer if i miss out :(

        • +1

@poop: if you can see the credit in your account online, then you should be able to apply that credit to your order. if you're going in-store, tell them you haven't received your card yet and give them your email address to look up on their system

        • @tdw: Thanks TDW, yeah i can definitely see if on my account, unfortunately, i need it shipped so can't go in store. Doesn't show up on my payment method, although there is a gift card option which needs a number and pin. Hmm can't work it out.

        • +1

@poop: The old log out and log in did it! worked now, thanks all!

      • +1

As long as you activate your account and when you go in store they'll be able to bring up your account and the credit. I couldn't find it on their website either but the credit was active on their system.

  • damn, couldn't find a store in VIC for pickup

  • +1

Thanks OP, I just bought a whole bunch of clear and black…and have no idea what to do with them.

    F%*k ozb…

    • You can actually customise the look of your car fairly easily. Plastidipping the wheels/badges/grill for a cool and stealthy look (black cans), tonnes of professional youtube tutorials too.

    • I used Plastidip to paint the air conditioner in my theatre room black to match everything else (it was white)…. the uses are endless. Well, almost endless!

    • Thanks, I might have to buy more ;-)

  • Perfect, I had a $40 giftcard and had been meaning to get some of these for ages. Ended up getting 3 cans shipped with my giftcard.
    Cheers OP!

  • Could use a can to touch up my PC case

  • WA Belmont, Morley have none. Got one to pick up from Vic Park.

  • Tried to get 2 of each, with pick up local store.
Weirdly, only the clear cansI could do pick up with, black was freight only and then of those two cans, one was C&C, the other was free freight to me.

  • Can anyone confirm if this is a suitable product to use for sealing EVA foam? I know Plastidip is often used to seal EVA foam used in cosplay weapons and armor projects, you said this is basically the same stuff?

    • Yep same stuff as plastidip. Just repackaged and resold with the armor all brand. In America armor all is sold for around $16.99 where plastidip is sold for around $6.99.

  • Bear in mind if you're going to try your luck in-store they're not necessarily located in the paint section. Sometimes they're deliberately moved next to the cleaning products and paint protection e.g. Meguiers, Turtle wax etc.

The below VIC stores had no stock when I visited each of them today:

    Glen Waverley
Knox City (I bought the last two Clear cans)
    Ringwood
    Bayswater
    Nunawading

  • I was about to put an online order for the black plastidip and a minute later the SuperCheap website said it was sold out. I snooze, I lose.

  • Would anyone happen to know if this is good for patching up a fifty cent piece sized hole in the clear coat of a silver car or am I better off getting the proper product?

    • +1

the clear custom shield has a matte finish so if you were to use it on your car, that "hole" would stick out like a sore….hole. best to use clear touch-up paint

  • Thanks, could anyone explain what the 'clear' actually is? Is it like clear coat? Wouldn't that just look ridiculous? I don't know..

    • no, this armorall one is a matte finish, so not like clear coat as well. plasti-dip has both glossy and matte clear. duplicolor's product is also a glossy clear

when i plasti-dipped my wheels black, i masked off the centre caps and gave them a few layers of clear.

it only looks "ridiculous" if you try to use it as traditional clear coat ;)

  • Dammit, I didn't even know this brand existed. Been looking at Plastidip, but its expensive.
And it looks like the Black is sold out. :(

    • +1

autobarn do occasionally have specials on plastidip, but it's more the standard colours.

sca also stock duplicolor custom wrap, which comes in more colours than armorall and there are also the occasional multi-buy specials

  • Mine just got delivered. Damn that's fast shipping!

    • Me too, ordered yesterday at 1.30pm and delivered today before midday. It might surprise you to know that Australia Post was not involved. (Toll Ipec delivery)

      • Couriers Please for me!

      • As it turns out, all that arrived was the tape measure that I ordered, curiously missing the 3 cans of black spray. Hmm.

  • I tried to order click and collect last night, but it said no stock @ my local. I had to go in today for something else, and asked about stock and they still had 4xblack and 1 x clear! I Scored. Thanks op

  • Fail, my order was refunded, now i have a useless SCA membership :(.

    • Yep sca system stock is terrible. Few previous orders where they did a full refund. Frustrating.

  • I ordered 1 can of clear and a bunch of black, chose delivery because it was the only option available for the cans of black.

Got the clear delivered, checked my order online and the can's of black had been removed without a trace. Contacted them and this was the response:

"Thank you for your recent online order.
Unfortunately we are unable to supply your order for Armor All Custom Shield Black - 396g at the current time. This item is unavailable Australia wide and we are unable to order anymore in.
I have issued a refund request to our processing team. Once this is completed you will receive the money back within 1-5 business days, depending on your banking institution.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."

    Black - Out of stock.

Paid $20 for a can of clear shipped… /cries in a corner while trying to get a refund.

  • my three cans of black have been shipped :)

  • I seem to be getting my 3 cans shipped individually. SCA really doesn't give a clear indication on what the hell is going on.
As far as I knew up until 5 minutes ago, my cans were just forgotten completely.

  • +1

Annoyingly my order of 6 cans just got refunded. Presumably, I didnt get an email saying "sorry we're out of stock" or the like, just an automated partial paypal refund and a packing slip for the other bits I didn't really need but just ordered to make it up to $100. Second time this has happened now…

  • …and a refund on my cans with no explanation. I'll be seeking a refund on my useless SCA membership now.

  • I just recieved my 2nd of 3 cans today. They're certainly dragging it out.

  • Just wait until Duplicolor does the 2 cans for $20 deal again. Exact same thing and you'll get more colour choices.

  • Tried this again on a whim and I just got an email to say my order has been shipped.

    Seriously?
