Are the MDR-EX150AP headphones any good?

    • I'm kind of curious myself.

    • +1

Just read through the comments of the previous deal.
People have been very happy with the headphones when they received them.

Also this deal for a $25 Sony gift voucher still seems to be open. I just completed the survey, but yet to receive my voucher.

      • +1

I completed it a couple of months ago, i think it took a coupe of days to arrive.

        • +1

          Mine expired

        • +1

@harkoliar: Same, shittiest voucher ever. 1) get it randomly weeks later 2) then expires super fast. Waste of time.

        • +1

Mine took about 2 weeks to arrive. The deal I wanted to spend it on was long gone by the time it arrived. Setting a 1 month expiry on a voucher is just scamming.

      • +13

Never recieved the voucher at all.

    • +6

Not sure but I'd like to know if anyone can compare them with the Xiaomi Hybrids because in my opinion they are incredible plus they're usually cheaper than these Sonys anyway. Anyone?

      • Exactly what I'm wondering, bought my pair of hybrids in January but the cable is knackered and I'm already getting static interferance

      • +2

I'm from China where Xiaomi is located. In most Chinese netizens' option, the only reason that we choose Xiaomi is cheap. But if it turns to quality, most people would definitely choose Apple or Sony etc. :D

PS: Xiaomi is really cheap in some product lines.

        • +5

Yes but the thing is I've found Xiaomi cheap and very decent quality so it's win-win! No need to stoop to Apple or Sony these days :)

        • @SteveAndBelle:

Not disputing that in regards to Xiaomi but I also wouldn't put Apple and Sony in the same sentence when talking about value for money.

For instance my Xperia Z5C is a direct iPhone competitor (that actually has more functionality) and it cost me a half of what my friend paid for his iPhone. I could give more examples with other products but you get my drift.

        • @elektron: Yes but I was quoting 'xjcs88' above you see :)

        • @SteveAndBelle:

Fair enough - it applies equally to his comment as well :)

        • Are you sure? Apple's $30 earphone is not nearly as good as xiaomi hybrid for lower price.

        • +1

Sorry I'm still working on my English, there might be mistakes in my words. :D

I just told you the opinion of Chinese netizens, not a judgement. And I agree that if we consider the price and the quality, sometimes it might be better to choose Xiaomi.

For me, I would like to buy some Xiaomi products like the power bank, socket, etc… But I don't like their mobile phones and tablets.

I've used a Xiaomi 2S model years ago, it worked but with poor quality. Just an example to show you why I don't like this company:

The touch screen of my Xiaomi 2S would be operated randomly when some water drops on it. Then I went to the customer service(Shanghai) to fix it.

I asked the staff about the question, he replied me "every touch screen acts like this."

"Not for my iPhone." I answered.

Then he laughed and told me, "yep but that is iPhone, which is much more expensive than Xiaomi."

I didn't know what to say at that moment. And I decided not to use any mobile phones and tablets of Xiaomi any more.

    • +8

I got them for $2 after the voucher last time. Honestly, they sounded pretty bad in my opinion from the brief period I listened to them, but worth $2 I guess.

Bass was average, bit bloated but not too much to complain about. The midrange-higher frequencies however were quite artificial sounding-plasticky even, and the soundstage was quite disappointing. Those were my first impressions and I'll need to give them another listen for any in-depth response.

If you're looking for a decent pair, the Sony MH1c's are probably my choice at the moment. Not many places sell them (can only really find them on eBay), but they are far superior to any budget set I've tried (Xiaomi Piston 3's, Brainwavz S0, JVC FX40s…).

      • +1

Just to clarify for others, you're referring to the Sonys in this deal, not the Xiaomi Hybrids correct?

        • +2

          Yeah, the EX150AP's.

      • Nah not 'bad' your expectations are just way too high. Did you plug them into a phone or a dedicated amp? Pluggin them into a phone as they are designed for I thought treble and bass was suitably exaggerated to compensate for a phones lack of precision. These completely don't scale for dedicated amps however but you shouldn't be buying earphones with a remote if you wanted hi-fi.

I might agree with the MH1 being better but those earphones have terrible, wouldn't recommend them because of that alone. Also getting real ones are very hard thanks to word of mouth from head-fi, I'd bet the Ebay ones are fake.

        • +1

Did them through my phone (Z2) as well as through a DAC/amp setup (Hifimediy Sabre>Fiio E6), which didn't really change my views. My expectations weren't high, and I was still disappointed-I guess the main neg for them is the overall lack of detail if I had to limit it down to 1 thing. The Piston 3's are a far better buy than these.

There are no confirmed fakes of the MH1c, and I haven't seen anything that proves there are. I've bought 2 sets from eBay recently. How are they terrible?

        • +1

          @donnot:

was going to say they have terrible fit. For some reason typing on my phone it cut out the sentence lol

      • Update: Upon further listening, covering more genres, I'd say they are worth it for maybe $10-15 max, but at $30, there are better options. If you plan on listening to just electronic/house etc, they're half-decent, but anything with vocals-especially female vocals brings out the weaknesses of these IEM's.

EDIT: Although I said they were 'bad'-not a great description, I'm basing that on the price of $30. Most people should be fine, and will be happy with these but there are better options at this price. They are a bit subjective, so I'm just giving my take on them.

        • I found the Sony's sound somewhat similar to the Piston 3's. I initially thought the Sony's were better as they sounded louder and had more bass, but the bass can sound exaggerated at times depending on type of music and do lack a bit of detail compared to the Piston 3's, but there's not much in it IMHO.

        • I'd say they are worth it for maybe $10-15 max, but at $30, there are better options

What do you recommend in place of these for the $30 pricerange?

        • @Agret:

Undoubtedly the Sony MH1c's I linked in an eBay post in the previous comment. Very smooth sounding, work with all genres, and more refined than anything I've heard in the price range. I used to give them as gifts, and everyone was very impressed with them.

Only downside is that they're coming from China so shipping might take a while.

        • +1

          @donnot:

I have the wireless version - SBH80, and I can't recommend it enough. It's also waterproof, even though Sony only rate it as splash resistant - I've regularly used it in the shower.

Just word of warning, once you go wireless you can't go back…

        • @elektron:

Argh, looks like I'll be blowing another $100…was looking for a decent wireless headset and that might just be the one. Looks like it doesn't have the same issues with fit or microphonics either. Thanks!

        • @donnot:

The fit is also really good, which is the single most important thing for earbuds. Poor fit = crap sound. I know a few other people who use them and most find the fit really good, but your ears may vary :-)

They can normally take a fair bit of abuse but you should know that Sony don't market them as a fitness headset. Depending on how rough you're going to be with them, one of the channels stops producing sound after a while. This happened to me too but it may have had something to do with the fact that I used them as earplugs when I slept (still do, and found them more effective then purpose-made earplugs), so it was probably my own fault. I was considering buying another pair but just took a punt on the Smart B-Trainers instead.

      • +1

Did you try Xiaomi Hybrid? It is pretty good to me.

    • +1

Yup, only when we can apply the $25 coupon code :)

  • +9

why are they headphones and not earphones?

    • +6

OP should fix the title as they're clearly earphones.

      • +5

Sony calls them "In-Ear Headphones", I am more just curious to why.

  • +7

clever tactic pricing it at $29 ;)

    • How so?

      • +2

Have one item at really low price to entice people, whilst the rest isn't much of a bargain.

        • +1

Just buy one- it's ozbargain anyway.

  • +3

i bought that exact same tv over the phone yesterday, but payed $100 for shipping, damn. if i waited a day could have saved $100. ah well.

    • +2

Can you not cancel the order?

    • *Paid

    • Happened to me as well, I emailed them with the details and a link to the product they're usually very nice to refund extra.
Might as well try your luck :)

  • On the checkout page when i click on Payment options it just takes me to http://www.sony.com.au/section/support

Is this happening to anyone else?

    • +1

      Nope, worked fine for me.

    • Eternal dilemma of Quality vs Quantity.

    • Sony HTM77 Muteki 7.2 Home Theatre System $769

Might be ex-Dick Smith stock, though :)

      • I saw these for $700 from DSE during their "clearance" sale, didn't post due to limited quantity.

Dont think many people throw a party with teeny pops at high volume would be too concerned on quality.

    • +1

When I hear party and see that muteki stuff I just think of Jessie pinkman from breaking bad, where he's back to his junkie miserable party ways.

  • -1

I bought a StyleCover for my Xperia Z3 during the last EOL and Box Damaged sale and after multiple follow-ups and two months later, they sent an email yesterday saying my order is cancelled and refund will be processed in 7-10 days as the product is "discontinued" . Duh! I ordered it on EOL sale!

Also, the MHCV7D deal is pretty average :(

    • +31

No need to call him lazy, maybe he didn't have time.

      Regardless, thanks for your post.

    • +74

Since OP is too lazy to do it properly

Gee that's a bit harsh. Been busting my arse off all day at work with Click Frenzy, and took a break to post this for you. What can I say - I apologise for not spending more time formatting it (which I normally take pride in).

      • +6

All good, just playing. Feel free to copy it into the body of the post :)

      • Leave it to a mod to do a quick copy > paste of that with formatting

      • Anything actually decent for click frenzy TA?

      • what click frenzy?

        • To be honest, I reckon links are far better. Finally got around to adding them :)

        • @tightarse: You can have both. e.g.

Item Product Code RRP Sale Price
49 Inch 4K Ultra HD LED Smart with Android TV KD49X8300C $2,099.00 $1,099.00

          Turn your phone sideways ;)

        • @Spackbace: nah, that not how its meant to be.
i'm old, a phone is up and down, not side to side.

        • @cwongtech: isn't that this whole site?

      • +7

Domingo is just playing. No need more fanbois coming up defending the arse.

        • +2

          Okok apologies all.

    • Wow calling TA lazy? You loco ese.

    • +1

Who the hell is upvoting this comment? Far as I can tell, no body puts in as much as TA round these parts.

    • +2

Since OP is too lazy to do it properly:

At least TA included LINKS, whilst your lazy post doesn't :-D

Personally, I'd rather have product links than fancy schmancy tables LOL

    • +1

1799 suggested retail price for the TV. Where was the 2099 price.

I'm looking for a new TV. The 50” TCL has been refunded… This isn't that much more of an outlay at 1099.

    • +1

Also, the MHCV7D deal is pretty average :(

      Very average indeed !!!
Costco was selling them for $579 last time I was there, and I didn't think that was particularly amazing ;-)

  • Sound bar is priced the same at The Good Guys: http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/sony-soundbar-100w-htct180.

Might as well buy it from there instead waiting for delivery from Sony. That price ends today though…

    • -3

This, and use the 50$ cashback for spending 300$ offer with amex

      • Nice one!

    • +4

Remember Good Guys have 20% off through the eBay store with the code "collect", making it $239.20.

It's worth checking the eBay sale for any tech purchases this week.
The 4k TV in the deal title here can be had for $796 at Good Guys instead of $1099.

The box damaged headphones are only $2 less here than at Good Guys. (Aside from postage)

      • Thanks for that research.

Not such a good deal here after all.

      • The 4k TV in the deal title here can be had for $796 at Good Guys instead of $1099.

Please show me where you're seeing the KD49X8300C TV for $796. TGGs don't carry this model…

        http://www.ebay.com.au/rpp/TheGoodGuys/TGG-TV/tv/uhd?_sop=2

      • +3

not the correct tv. the one listed here in this Sony sale is 4K 100HZ. TGG have the more budget versions of that model

      • Nope,That's a different TV KD49X8000C and this one is KD49X8300C.. mmm well.. the difference is ..come on friends ..back me up :-)

        • +3

          $200 dollars?

Actually, I tried to search what the difference is, my search was fruitless, other than finding that KD49X8000C retailed at higher price on Sony.
          http://www.sony.com.au/product/ProductComparisonWizard.actio…

        • +1

@Oversimplified: Unless this model is the flag ship model, the difference would be minute and barely noticeable. Good value is the good guys model because it's cheaper.

        • +3

@GameChanger: I like all the facts you've added to this conversation.

        • +1

@rompastompa: Its from my experience buying a TV and well anything. The middle range every knows is marketing gimmick to get people to spend more.

Unless you're a TV fanatic you won't notice any difference and only the flag ship model would help.

        • +1

@GameChanger: I honestly am looking for the difference since I am considering both options to replace my current TV. I did read from an Ozbargain post that Google brought up that refreshing rate is better on 8300C. Motionflow XR 800 vs Motionflow XR 200.

        • @Oversimplified:
Also looking for new TV, since the 50” got refunded……..
Not sure whether I should jump in now for this, or wait.

        • @albanyson: Ditto on not sure whether I want to jump in on this. Kinda thinking about waiting for EOFY Sales as well…

        • @Oversimplified:

          This discussion?

          • What is the difference between the Kd49x8300c and KD49X8000C ?

          • First one is an Android OS based tv and the latter is just a smart tv. And the first one is a recent model. Not sure about refresh rates

          • Also, motionflow "XR 200" in the 49X8000C, which I understand to be a 'real' panel refresh rate of 50Hz, and "XR 800" in the X8300C, which should be 100+Hz (120 I think).

        • @Spackbace: Yeah, it was that one.

        • @Spackbace:
So simply, the 8300 is a slightly better TV, but the 8000 has a $200 higher suggested retail price?

So the Sony deal delivered is slightly better…..
