i own both, this is a great machine
This is a great little machine, had mine for 2 years now and still going well.
Not the fastest but does the job well, and great value especially at this price, dont have to get a separate grinder its all in one.If you are a snob that has to have the absolute best, probably not for you.
Bought one, nearly pulled the trigger last month on the BES920 but no smart grinder in the bundle ruled it out (I know the inbuilt one of the 870 is not as good), and don't really need the double boiler as me and partner drink espresso.
wow, so tempting :(( Last time I didn't get the BES920 because BES920 + grinder ( nearly 900$) is over my budget. Wonder under 600$, is it a best choice? Or it worth the 400$ extra to upgrade to BES920?
If you're only making a few coffees a day, then get this.
Any idea why they no longer sell the BES820? I don't need a grinder as already have one. 20% off the BES820 would be great!
I think it might be discontinued.
They lowered the price of this by a small amount a few hours ago.
As a note, this is not in the same league as the BES920 Dual boiler series.
- Single boiler only (takes time to change b/w steam to group handle)
- 53mm handle and basket (vs 58mm e61-spec/commercial spec basket)
- Much smaller than BES900 in footprint size, but that's due to there only being one boiler.
- Much slower to steam milk (looking at ~15 seconds to steam milk for a 150mL latte from 4 to 63degrees).
