Like the price. Hate the airline.
Never again!It would be quite useful if you said why you hate the airline? I've only flown them twice (Brisbane - London and Melbourne - London) but have no idea why someone would hate them - perhaps I was lucky?
I've flown once on the airline. Mind you it wasn't to London it was to Bangkok.
Firstly the plane was old.. I mean old, this doesn't usually bother me but
The seats were the hardest thing i've ever sat on, And i've sat on wooden seats on south east asian ferries. Where you expect to be a cushion there was just fabric and a flat board. I desperately asked for a blanket halfway through the flight for extra padding but they didn't have any.I thought I just got unlucky on the first flight but the second flights seats were no better.
The transfer through Brunei wasn't the most pleasant of experiences either. It took 1 hr to process passengers through transit. I mean we had just got off the plane and it was like going through customs again.
I've flown many budget airlines throughout Europe - Ryanair and Easyjet will get a mention here, and i'd rate them over Royal Brunei any day.
Royal Brunei used to operate older 767s, but now their Australian flights use 787s which are brand new and state of the art.
@Flying Ace:
I flew January 2015.Rather bizarre. The planes I flew on looked rather old too (the décor reminded me of a 1960's living room!) but the seats were quite possibly the most comfortable I've ever been on - my seats had really thick, springy padding that made it like sitting on an armchair. I've never heard of any airline seat anywhere being harder than a lump of wood.
The Brunei transfer was also perfectly fine all 4 times for me, though mind-numbingly boring as the wifi only worked in the corner at a ridiculously expensive cafe (I haven't been for years so maybe it's improved?).
You seem to be somewhat justified in your Ryanair claim given your bizarre experience, but normally I'd question the sanity of anyone who would actively choose them above Royal Brunei (or almost any full-service carrier). In my 50ish Ryanair flights, the only time I've ever been anywhere near as comfortable is when I've had 3 seats to myself.
@dasher86: Would probably have been the 767s then.
Wow nice price but the airline, not thr one i'd like to go on.
Is that one way or return?
The title will tell you.
Great price if you don't drink alcohol
Great price if you do too!
I know my main preference when booking flights is the alcohol selection…lol
Hahahaha i know what you mean!
But it's so cheap for a highly rated airline with new planes and good service, I'm happy to drink apple juice 😃
When I fly to Europe, a few drinks on the second leg is a non negotiable for me. I won't fly with these guys for this reason.
cheap but crap airline
A crap airline that is constantly reviewed with the best service and the newest planes? It's a Dreamliner all the way to London on RBA.
Flown with them a handful of times and have been magnificent.
Have they upgraded the airport yet? I've flown with them a couple of times but not since 2012. Loved the service but one of my return flights had a 5 hour stopover in the wee hours of the morning and there was nothing to do. Also wondering if they still do the "day-trip" thing where you pay $5 and they take you for a 3 hour bus tour of Brunei and a couple of markets. I thought that was really cool, even though it was a little daggy but it was a nice way to see part of a country that I wouldn't normally visit.
I flew them return once. Hated that stupid airport, but everything else was great.
Que the bunch of bogans complaining cause they cant have their alcohol fix.
Flew this airline a few times and no problem.
It's blatant discrimination against Alcoholicism :-/
As well as people who like a nice Merlot with their roast pork dinner…
They don't. Tourists are left completely alone in Brunei, even in regards to Sharia Law.
I last visited in November for a week and have lived there for three years recently as an expat. Please don't guess.
Tourists are left completely alone in Brunei, even in regards to Sharia Law.
Not according to advice from the Australian government…
In May 2014, Brunei began phasing in a new Islamic Sharia penal code. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, the offences and punishments set out in the code will apply to both Muslims and non-Muslims.
@jv: Just like in Dubai you mean?
You must be aware that what's written in statute and what happens in reality are not always the same thing? But why listen to someone who actually lived there when you can just create a fictional reality in your head…
why listen to someone who actually lived there
You are right…
Let's all ignore DFAT warnings, and listen to random people on the internet… lol.
@jv: Or you could choose to not be an ignorant fool and assess the situation instead of blindly following an obviously generic warning that doesn't actually say anything meaningful.
Australian law applies to both muslims and non-muslims, there are a hell of a lot of statutes on the books that aren't actively enforced against anyone…
"Queue to bunch of racists forcing people to comply with their religious beliefs."
Well there you go, I didn't realise that racism and religion were the same. Is is still racism is radical Islamic Syrians force their religious views on Christian Syrians?
Even if we were to use the modern distorted version of the word "racism" that includes non-racial discrimination, I'm utterly confused as to how it's racist to acknowledge the right of an airline to serve halal food - or how anyone is forcing you to comply with any religious beliefs whatsoever?
Actually, confused is the wrong word to use. Virtually every time I see your name posted you're spouting an intolerance for something or other - I'm not confused by your motivations at all!
@callum9999
You are unlikely to get a reply from jv when you are correct and he/she is not. That's been my experience anyway. Race and Religion are not the same thing.@jdr: I personally find the distinction meaningless anyway - abusing someone because of their religion is no different to abusing someone because of their skin colour. Even if you wanted to argue it's fine to abuse people with characteristics they've "chosen", I wouldn't agree people choose religion. They're invariably brainwashed and/or mentally challenged.
It appears that the flights have gone up to $954 return
$916
That's with CC payment. Change to debit card and the price drops.
@tightarse: ahhh
@snook: Just remember that your CC might have complimentary insurance so copping the $17 fee might be worth it.
@ilikeradiohead: I thought that only applied to gold credit cards?
@theStinge: Read your PDS. Most gold, platinum and black cards have complementary insurance. Even zero fee ones like the Bankwest Zero platinum have it.
How did you bring up the Month by Month search page? I'm looking for the same, but for Adelaide instead of Melbourne.
Booked August 31 - October 11 MEL-LHR for $1106. Still tons cheaper than any other airline for those dates. Cheers tightarse!!!
