AmEx Platinum (Charge?) Card Members Receive 25% Bonus Velocity Points‏ for May Transfers

110

I received this in an email. It is not detailed in the URL Link that I have provided.:-
TAKE OFF SOONER WITH 25% BONUS VELOCITY POINTS
As a Platinum Card Member, you'll receive 25% bonus Velocity Points when you transfer 2,000 or more Membership Rewards points to your Velocity Frequent Flyer account between 1 May and 31 May 2016.2

If you have already transferred your points from 1 May 2016, you'll still be eligible for the 25% bonus, which is an additional 10% on top of the publicly available offer of 15% bonus.

This means 1 Membership Rewards point is equivalent to 1.25 Velocity Points when you transfer your points during the month of May.
Edit I found a decent URL http://ebm.email.americanexpress.com/c/tag/hBXK-PTAQB6DpB9NS…

Note: I did a transfer on 4 May and received the 25% bonus.

Plat Charge card I assume ?
Having plat edge and was the normal 15% more points promo

    • Possibly only Platinum Charge Card. I have the Plat Charge Card, however they only refer to 'Platinum Card'.

Same here platinum edge and I only get 15%.

  • Transfer your Membership Rewards points between 1 May 2016 and 31 May 2016 and receive 15% Bonus Velocity Points*.

  • Seems a waste of Award Points unless you really need them for some reason.

It's not really, you get 100 points ≈ $1 on economy flights with Velocity so a 25% bonus is good value. Better than gift vouchers.

      • How many do you usually get if you transfer them to Kris Flyer points and then convert to Velocity points? (More and its not a limited time offer)

        • What do you mean? You lose more points every time you convert.

        • @Diesmile: Correct, not matter which way you go converting KF to Velocity or vice versa you lose! 1.35 to buy 1.

        • @peck:
          Sorry I retract my comment.

I thought it was 1.35 Kris Flyer : 1 Velocity.

This deal seems ok if you are going to have a need for Velocity points then.

        • @rob74:

Hardly a waste - i just used Velocity points to fly first class to London and back on Etihad and cost me about $400 in tax

        • @digitalane:

$400 in tax to London return sounds VERY cheap. I'm assuming this was LHR Isn't the tax departing LHR usually something exorbitant?

        • @digitalane:

How many points did that end up costing?

        • @Loki556:

Quite a few! 125,000 there as that was in Business but i got a free upgrade to First (got lucky) and 187,500 on the way back! But worth it for the experience.

Stil have about 600,000 remaining - so I always take advantage of these transfer bonuses.

  • Wow, thanks op. for alerting me! I got 25% so happy. Platinum charge card.

  • Gift cards are worthless when woolies and discount or have promos on them very value for points is on flights or flight upgrades , for example I want to bump myself to business class…

  • Are business reward seats still available for international flights?

    • If you have a bit of flexibility i never have problems. I flew Biz/First in March on points and have just booked First class on Singapore in Nov, and coming back on Virgin Atlantic Upper, and Etihad Business - all with points

  • just called them and it should be some special Platinum card. My Platinum (American Express Velocity Platinum) gives only standard 15%.
