makes me sad seeing all the kogan branded items rather then dicksmith :(

    • +9

      then?

    • +1

I am sure this isnt the end of those dicksmiths items.. when i visited the dicksmiths shops on the final days, they were full of them. unless they trash them all they will likely end up somewhere in the dollar shops filling up their shelves instead.. some of the stuff was ancient, so they should be around for a while..

i think you missed the point, kogan only bought the "online store" not the retail/warehouses/stock that dse owns. that would still all be tied up in the bankruptcy side of things. the online store is little more than a contact list and "good will" (as well as obviously the dse url) none of which are really anything more than buying publicity

        • -1

He didn't say they would be appearing on Dicksmith websites.. He said they would appear in dollar shops in the future (obviously once they have been sold off by the receivers)

        • @Roary: this deal is about the DSE website which is a completely different entity to any physical entity that was DSE including stores, warehouses and DSE branded stock.

        • @nosdan:

I think you missed the point…
addict never said Dicksmith website are selling Dicksmith products.. Why are you referring that he did??

        • @Roary: you mean inferring not referring?

because this is a deal about DSE online, which is at this point really just a rebadged kogan and not to be confused with the real DSE or its products etc

      • The stuff that was left was mostly useless overpriced junk, and is probably only worth a couple of dollars. Nothing to be sad about.

        • -1

Hi eDust looked like you made a mistake with your post so i corrected it for you hope you don't mind

That stuff was mostly useless overpriced junk, and is probably only worth a couple of dollars. Nothing to be sad about.

        • @iand: I'm sure there's humour there somewhere but sorry I don't get it. (BTW I didn't downvote you)

  • +14

The site is basically the same in every way as kogan just with a DSE theme… :'(

    • +1

Exactly what I was going to say…

    • -1

yup.. I wonder if they will shut down Kogan.com, or try and differentiate the two in one way or another. Calling the signin a membership was interesting when I first logged on.

Still early days, they probably quickly loaded content so they dont loose shoppers during the transition.

      • Dammit I accidentally negged you. I wish I could just click the neg button again to undo it.

And also now everything will be GREY IMPORT and not AUS STOCK - with a tiny disclaimer for unaware buyers.

      • Don't you mean Grey imported versus non grey import with the Australia Tax added by the brand owner

  • -2

    pfft

  • +27

AND they have also implemented those annoying kogan alerts/pop-ups "Someone in fairyland has bought our shit, so you must too"

  • +1

no GST and everything is grey import?

  • did Kogan buy DSE or something?

    • Only their online store.

      • -6

        Thats a bit dodgy …

      • actually, not even the online store.. its just the brand name they have bought!

        • Wonder how Dick Smith(the person, original founder) feels about his name being transferred around like this..

From Woolworthless to whatever Anchorage is and now to grey imports-Kogan. Could become a black market term someday..

        • @Nillionaire:

Its on the news a couple of months ago. In short-
          - He's 'happy' Kogan bought part of the business
          - and He's 'not happy' re: how Anchorage handled the business and pretty much called em crooks.

        • @Kelberos:
Ah, makes sense, thanks for sharing. :)

  • Samsung S7 Edge is $819 + delivery - still, considering the DSE name is attached, I'm cautious!

    https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-3…

    • Yeah I am cautious about anyone with the name Adolf too.

    • +2

It's Kogan selling them. He bought the intellectual property of the dse brand, not the actual company or its liabilities.

  • +1

So just selling cheaply made Kogan crap under the Dick Smith name….

    Not going to fool anyone…

    • I doubt they are trying to fool anyone considering a lot of the products have Kogan in the name…

    • Not going to fool any OZB

Many people will buy thinking they will get GST and with AU warranty/laws

    • +2

So just selling cheaply made Kogan crap under the Dick Smith name
as opposed to selling cheaply made crap under the Dick Smith name

  • +6

Kogan dodgy warranty shit customer service no thanks,it is sad seeing Kogan and dick smith together

    • Especially for Kogan brand . 2 items ( vacuum cleaner and TV ) were dead 2 weeks out of warranty .

    • +1

Kogan isn't hugging dick. Kogan has bought dick and playing with it now with seeing what they can get away with.

I suspect they bought just the online dick to avoid having to take up the $390million debt by buying offline and online dicks.
      http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-03-15/kogan-buys-dick-smith-…

  • Are we going to see any Eneloops deal in the foreseeable future?

    • unlikely, kogan have simply bought the customer list and what ever "good will" remains for the online store as a way to publicise the kogan brand/products.

all the physical products/stock would still be owned by the bricks and mortar arm of the DSE business and kogan would not have bought any of that.

    • think the occasional great deals that DSE has had in the last few years will be a thing of the past now. I hate Kogan and their crappy deals and poor customer service. I enjoyed the gaming clearances, eneloops and various other electrical items which I got far below cost value on occasion with Dick Smith.

      • +1

think the occasional great deals that DSE has had in the last few years will be a thing of the past now.

not just "think", its a definite. this is whats called the "good will" that you buy when you buy an "asset" like this. you are buying that feeling that previous sales etc are "worth".

as for why it will never happen with kogan, DSE were doing it (losing money on sales) in an effort to try and make some cash flow, think of it like having to get ever more credit cards to pay off your previous card's interest but without ever paying off the principle sums, this is how DSE traded for the last several years.

  • +5

It's actually Kogan shop recoloured and rebranded to DSE as the stock level is exactly the same - " out of stock " . - :(

  • Its a hack job using the same web site with just having yellow borders, hope it all turns sour.
how long before we see sales with % off and prices pumped up.

  • +2

It's not a real Dick Smith shop unless it sells Eneloops.

  • +9

Kogan is a horrible store in my opinion.

    • And now teamed up with Dick… what a partnership!

    • #freshdick #newdick #bravenewdick #thisisnotthedickyourelookingfor #kogansmith
  • This is a Kogan in Dick clothing…

  • +7

Argh, I thought Dick closing down would mean that would be the end of Dick spamming ‘bargains’! I guess not.

Will the Dick ride ever end?

    • Thats what she said!

  • +1

Perhaps Anchorage will swoop in and (profanity) this over too?

    • Kogan are rumoured to be looking at floating lol. Who's going to be stupid enough to buy it?

        • LOL just another ramper from Hot Copper i'd say…

          @fruit:

The Motley Fool has to be some of the worst "financial advice" you will ever read. Worse than CBA lol. And if you ever subscribe to their email updates they will spam you with a chain mail length "analysis" which reads like it was written by someone in primary school.

If you don't believe me just Google reviews of TMF and laugh.

And the clincher in that entire BS article…

Motley Fool contributor Ry Padarath has no position in any stocks mentioned. > > The Motley Fool Australia has no position in any of the stocks mentioned.

          DYOR !!!

I thought they might have merged the names. Like Dick Kogan or Kogans Dick.
