  • I was post paid contract with Optus just recently and they wouldn't budge on the set up costs on any home internet deal.

100 MBit Unlimited FTTN/FTTP for $90 looks good if your already a Optus mobile customer.

  • +7

This isn't a bargain. Bargain was a previous deal from Optus listed here on Ozbargain. Back in the day when it used to have real bargains.

    100mbs speed free upgrade
Unlimited calls to land line and mobile
    Unlimited internet
Free fetch tv with all available channels
    Free fetch tv box
    No set up fees
    Free installation
    Free Netflix for 6 months

    All for $90 per month.

    • That was a promotion……

The OP advertised a set plan which is not a promotion/special/deal running with Optus at the moment.

      • Ok I think the $90 deal I mentioned also comes down by $10 if you have a Optus mobile being billed at the same address.

Kudos to OP and please don't take it as a negative towards him, but I was trying to point out at the broad lack of real bargains and large inflow of just any soft deals/promotions that seem to be posted lately.

        Where is JV??!
        =)

Yes You are right Customer are receiving 10$ Discount for bundling their mobiles with the 90$ Deal

This is a very good plan in case you just need the internet and don't use the Landline Phone at all and have Optus Mobile service anyway

60$ Plan for Cable Broadband is really a Bargain

let me know in case you guys want to signup for this deal .

          You can reach me

        Nice stalking skills lol
Not gonna say my bargains were the best but point I'm trying to make across is quality vs quantity. If I find a bargain and no one beats me to it I will post =)

Heh I'm on this plan :)

  • I had spoken to I operator via live chat. They had tried to up sell the $90 plan. He would not budge on the fee ($200) for the $60 plan. Would have signed up if he had but not worth it for $200.

Good luck getting anywhere near 100Mbps download. Especially during offpeak. I'm on 100Mbps Cable and the past few week, I'm getting under 5Mbps during peak. I'm waiting for Telstra to install their cable then disconnect my crappy Optus line.

    • +2

To be fair, during off peak periods I have no issues hitting the 100mbps. But you are right during peak periods (say 6pm till 11pm) it can get very crappy… like 5Mbps crappy

EDIT: Also I don't believe this deal includes the speed pack. so it would be capped at 30mbps. Which is really pretty shitty value, compared to the $80 deal last year with free fetch, 100mbps, unlimited, calls etc.

    • +4

Also if you are thinking of calling the hopeless tech support in regard to the crappy speed, all you get back is "There is congestion in your area" and we can't do anything about it until engineers finish the upgrade and Optus's engineers have been working on it for at least 6 months since the first day I got connected. The fetch TV I got with my bundle can't even stream anything.

If you google it , you will see how much people are complaining about the crappy speed of Optus cable during peak time.

      • +1

100% right, I have Optus cable with Fetch, paid for the extra channels once and had trouble recording anything as it kept coming with error with Internet.
You call Optus and they been pulling the area/line upgrades story for almost a year.
Very slow at peak times and tends to have a few drop outs.
Waiting for NBN than will change.

      • +2

Reason enough not to lock in for 24 months.

    • and IF you pay the extra $30 for speedpack. You can be guaranteed that you'll probably spend an hour or two a month on the phone to tech support trying to get that $30 fee waved for the month because speeds don't go above 5 Mbit.

  • +1

I can't believe they have the nerve to advertise unlimited plans

We have 100 Mbit in the mornings but it is dial-up speeds in Brisbane evenings, all weekend, 24/7 public holidays and it is getting worse. I frequently have to tether my Telstra phone to get emails out.

    • You're still faster than half of Australia :/

Are you on Cable or FTTN?

      • This is cable. Daytime speed is good - http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5298555034

        • +1

Unfortunately that's the downfall of Cable with the way tech works, and since NBN bought the cable networks from Optus, they won't be improving them any time soon.

Even if your area receives the DOCSIS 3.1 upgrade, or if you end up with FTTN NBN in your area, you're going to experience the same issues.

Yay for Turnbull wrecking the NBN with the MTM!

        • @Online Bathroomware:
I didn't realise NBN owned the cable network now. It oversold their satellite to the point it was unusable and they've wrecked the cable network in record time.

    • It's pretty disappointing when I had faster speeds in Thailand when I was there, than I do here for 3 times the price. :(

I was getting 50 down/20 up and it was pretty consistent, all for a massive $30 a month. Our upload speeds are pathetic and a disgrace for a first world country.

      • Please also take into account how much $30 a month represents as percentage of an average Thai salary. Not saying that it wasn't good value or even better value as someone thinking in Australian income terms.
$30 Aud/month would be out of reach for many Thai people.

        • Clearly I get that (given I lived there for 4 years). However, the point is, Thailand is a developing country, Australia is not. Even on the higher plans Australia has rubbish quality internet compared to most other countries (including some developing ones).

Reasonable internet packages there start at around 3-4% of gross monthly income (around 15k ($750) a month) and that's counting the low end (not say median income in Bangkok which is probably double that).

Here the same is about 2.5% of a median income (if we say that's around 45k a year). Not a huge difference for the state of Australian internet to be honest.

There's no reason to have a 100 Mbit connection drop to dial up speeds due to congestion unless it's being oversold.

        • @thargelios:
Not claiming to be an expert here but median income in Australia is much higher than you estimate.
Abs claim average is $1500/ week ($78,000/year) for full time adult. I know it's not the median but it's still something

Also agree with the 100Mbit comment. Mum has Telstra 30Mbit and its plenty fast.

  • What's the cheapest optus postpaid plan to sign up if I want this?

    • BYO $30 AFAIK

  • Please advise if this is doable. Sign up on a BYO SIM only plan. Then get the $90 Max speed Unlimited net plan. then get $10 off on my mobile bill for having a Optus broadband service? Thanks

    • Yes, BYO sim only plan contract or month to month is eligible for the bundle discount.
