  • Bought the Blower skin the other week when eBay had 15% off. Thankfully I had not yet opened it so will now return it.

Hope some other national retailer picks up the Ego line after Masters has gone.

    • Take care that it is the full kit that you are given. When I turned up to collect the order this evening they brought out the skin version.

Is there any difference between the two line trimmers? Model numbers ST1201E and ST1211E?

    • love to know this too

    • +1

Hi Jasonlah, the models are very similar both have the same specs and include a 2.0Ah battery and standard charger. ST1211E has 2 part aluminium shaft with hinge while the ST1210E has 1 piece straight aluminium shaft. Stock will vary by store so please check SOH at your local store to see which one they have available.

the st1211E seems as though it does not come with a battery

      • Specifications say:
        Battery included - Yes
        Charger included - Yes

        • ah i see that part. Sorry was confused with this for the ST1211E;
          Boxed Contents

          1 x Ego 56V Lithium-Ion Cordless Line Trimmer 30cm ST1211E

          and the ST1201E

          Boxed Contents

          1 x EGO 56V Line Trimmer, 1 x 2.0Ah Lithium-Ion Battery and 1 x standard charger

probably just the web team making me confused

      • +1

So which one is better? Aluminium with shift or aluminium with hinge?

        • I went ahead and got the straight shaft one, dont see any point in getting a hinged one, just one more thing to go wrong

        • +1

Easier to transport the hinged one if you have to. E.g I go round the MIL every so often and fold it in half to put in the car.

        • +1

          @seb:

          You forgot the "F"…

        • +1

I ended up getting the hinged one (didn't really have a choice). The hinge gets bolted together so you don't really want to "fold" it for storage, that would be a real pain. And the hinge itself is all metal and very sturdy, it's never going to budge. All up im happy, it works well.

  • Why no Bosch garden sale

I've been using their 56V chainsaw, loving it. Cuts through small-medium trunks like butter.

  • Best trimmer ever

  • A few reviews saying the line is too short for horizontal trimming to get a clean straight edge…

If I buy this, can I try it and refund if I don't like it?

    • Anyone can answer my questions?

      • +1

I doubt you will be able to refund it. Masters will have to sell the trimmer as a used trimmer. Which is a loss to them.

        • Mate took back the blower the same day he bought it. Masters told him, no change of mind.

        • @zealmax: What was his reason for taking it back? Did he not like it?

        • @maverick: To him it was useless. He has a very small lawn and it is just as easy to just use a broom.

Got the line trimmer and the hedge trimmer - had them both for nearly 6 months now. I could never go back to a petrol line trimmer and electric hedge trimmer again.

    • What are the advantages over a petrol line trimmer?

      • +2

No more going to the petrol station to fill the jerry can up
You don't have to worry about the fuel going stale or needing to mix oil in it
Hardly any noise - no longer need to wear ear protection and you don't havve to worry about council noise restrictions
No more priming and pulling on the cord to start - just pull the trigger
It doesn't get hot like a petrol trimmer does so you don't have to worry about burning yourself on it

The only petrol OPE I have left is the mower. I'm not struck on any of the battery powered mowers available in Oz yet as I don't believe they are a true replacement for petrol mowers in terms of power….they're getting there slowly.

I'm waiting until these mowers hit our shores and drop in price

Just got One from northland. There is 18 or so left

  • New mower, blower coming out soon.

  • How does it compare with this one
    https://m.masters.com.au/product/101829150/black-decker-18v-…

The original price lf which is the same $199 but was half price sometime ago.

The EGO has 3x the power capacity (56V X 2Ah), has dual lines, and the line is thicker too (2.0mm) on the EGO. And the shaft on that B&D seems suspiciously short in the photo, the EGO is tall.

      • Much appreciate. Just wondering do you really need that much power in trimming?

        • +1

Probably not, at least not for my humble needs. Maybe if you had more vegetation or thick weeds. I got this because I was in the market for one and this just seemed like a good deal.

In the distant past I've used a cheap (and very old) ozito 240V model, it wasn't very good. And years before that a larger 240V model that did the job fine. This EGO feels more powerful than both, but it's really hard to compare because I've been without a trimmer for too long.

    • I bought one of these for $74 and returned it - when i opened the box i found that someone had already used it . I gave it a quick charge and it was hopeless. it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

  • Seems good but I daresay they are still making money at this $199 aud price. http://www.homedepot.com/p/EGO-12-in-56-Volt-Lithium-ion-Cor…

Also at the bottom of that lync there's another model the 1501 that has a brushless motor for $179 us. Just saying these must be superceded models and the pricing is pretty standard vs the US. Still a good deal I guess for au.

might go have a look if im near as masters though as my 4 stroke honda trimmer's heavy weight bugs me a bit, more bugs the bad disc in my back…

    • there's no question that the brushless 15" is superior in a number of respects.

  • How does this comparee to the Ozito 36V Li-ion cordless line trimmer currently selling for $129 at Bunnings? (besides the higher battery voltage of 56V for the Masters Ego one).

Currentlty looking for a line trimmer as my pretrol one s#$ks.
    thanks

Anyone knows if the EGO ST1500E Brushless Line Trimmer is any better than the 2 models (ST1201E and ST1211E) that is on offer?

    • +1

Being brushless it would seem better, but that is a skin only. No battery or charger.

    • The trick there would be to buy the blower with battery and charger and the brushless line trimmer.

    • It has wider cut (38cm cf. 30cm) and uses thicker line (2.4mm cf. 2.0mm). Presumably more powerful motor. Therefore heavier duty, but will probably have correspondingly less run-time per charge.

    • yes it is a more powerful, better unit. I would buy the BL 15" for a regular yard, and the 12" really for a small yard / courtyard.

    • +1

15" model is better. Greater power/efficiency, width of cutting path & thickness of line. Brushless, variable speed control, higher capacity battery, metal head, newer trigger, longer shaft, elbow rest, shoulder strap. Here's a review that compares them side by side - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jtmZ0SK0X4

  • Hi All, Don't forget you can stack with the woollies egift card for an extra 5% off.

Good to see more of this cordless stuff around - it means all the other brands have to compete.

Cordless is the way to go.

Now just to wait for a lot of this rubbish to flood the market so cordless becomes the norm (which hopefully force the major brands to up their ante in this area).

Just placed order for line trimmer! thanks OP!

  • Eager to hear any feedback regarding the line length, some reviews say it's too short for horizontal cuts for line edging

    • Its definitely a bit short but doesn't cause any problems for line edging. The newer brushless would be the one to get but its double the price (!)

      • As per @ sillyhead above -
The trick there would be to buy the blower with battery and charger and the brushless line trimmer.
The brushless trimmer skin (no battery or charger) is $240. Blower (reduced) is $199 with battery and charger.

  • Was this really $350 originally? Masters website doesn't mention anything about $350, just states $199.

    • It used to say save $150, etc but they seem to have changed it. This is the sold price on the Masters eBay store which shows people have paid $349 for it before 29/4 (may need to be logged into eBay to view sales history in this link though).
      http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

    • for most of its life it sold for $329
