Goes well with $30 AMEX offer!

    • +1

I had the same offer saved onto my card but couldn't get a good deal from Kogan, worked out to be still more expensive… so went and bought it YESTERDAY from cpl for 228… what a life…

  • Ugggh no PO Box?

  • So LG G4 $439 * 90% = $395.10 - $30 AE Credit = $365.10 but have to pay delivery.

  • +3

Every time i'm looking for a component Ozb delivers at the right times!

Was going to buy the 250gb for $130 but this seems better value, specially with AMEX offer

    • If I had Amex already, this would be a no brainer. I would've bought it on the spot

      • +1

Yeah it's a bangin deal, 5 eggs on newegg also out of hundreds of reviews

  • I see it advertised as $199?

    Shipping additional $15,
with TENOFF comes down to $194.10
    After AMEX rebate $164.10

    Is this right?

    • Anyone confirm??

    • Yes, it says in the title $194.10 delivered so subtract $30 off gets you $164.10

      • I know it says it but was just double checking : )

        Thanks

  • Hi how hard is it to DIY install this to a notebook? I have a lenovo thinkpad (4 months old) with only 256gb ssd.

  • can these be used in macbook air? anyone?

    • +2

Macbook Airs don't use a 2.5" SSD, so no. Pretty sure they use an M.2 SSD instead.

      • thx a lot

        • +2

Macbook Airs don't use a 2.5" SSD, so no. Pretty sure they use an M.2 SSD instead.

To add onto this, you can buy a Samsung 850 evo m.2 mSATA edition to install :)

or any other 2.5" m.2 variant!

        • @MyEducation: I have to intervene here. Many Macbook airs use a proprietary PCIe SSD. Heed caution and research before you buy - very few models actually work in the Air. A traditional M.2 SSD will not work. Normally you have to get a custom OWC SSD, and they're not cheap.

        • @stephendt

Ahh yep that'd be correct, i stand corrected. Depending on which version you have, You can check which one you'd need here link article

          Quoted from link above

MacBook Air: Replacing Your Old Hard Drive or SSD

There are five key generations of the MacBook Air that use different types of solid state drives.

First-generation 13″ MacBook Airs (sold between 2008 and mid-2009) can be upgraded to a 1.8″ SSD with a ZIF connector. On price, your best choice is a 64GB ($56) or 128GB ($95) KingSpec drive, each of which have a 4.4/5-star Amazon rating. Expect speeds in the 50-90MB/second range. Add this external enclosure for only $14 if you plan to keep using your old drive after the SSD swap, or want to ease the migration process from your old drive to the new one. [iFixit’s guide to this MacBook Air can be found here.]

Second-generation 13″ MacBook Airs (sold between 2008 and mid-2009) can be upgraded to a 1.8″ SATA drive with between 120GB to 480GB of capacity. Other World Computing/OWC’s Mercury Aura Pro comes in 120GB ($134), 240GB ($218), or 480GB ($348) versions with promised read/write speeds in the 275-285MB range. [iFixit’s guide to this MacBook Air is here.]

Third-generation MacBook Airs (11″ and 13″, sold between late 2010 and mid-2011) use blade-style SATA III SSDs that look similar to RAM boards. 9to5Mac’s Seth Weintraub added a $190 240GB Transcend JetDrive 500 SSD to his wife’s 2011 MacBook Air last year; the same drive now sells for $170 on Amazon, with a 480GB model at $300, and a 960GB SSD at $540. They promise 460-570MB/second speeds. OWC’s Aura/Aura Pro series for this particular MacBook Air has had comparatively poor reviews, but a 1TB OWC drive for the same computer can be had for $549 through Amazon. [iFixit’s guides for this 11″ Air and 13″ Air are here.]

Fourth-generation MacBook Airs (11″ and 13″, sold starting mid-2012) should go with the 4.8/5-Star reviewed Transcend JetDrive 520 models (240GB/$169, 480GB/$299, 960GB/$540), which promise 460-570MB/second speeds. Mixed reviews of OWC’s 240GB Aura Pro ($239) and 1TB Aura 6G ($549) would give me pause. [iFixit’s guides for this 11″ Air and 13″ Air are here.]

Fifth-generation MacBook Airs (11″ and 13″ sold starting early-2013) switched to faster PCIe SSDs, which are not yet being offered by Transcend or OWC for this particular laptop.

This overview shows you what type of drive fits in a specific model of Macbook Air.

Late 2010 to mid 2012 use blade style SATAIII SSDs that look like RAM boards. Early 2013 use PCIe SSDs. Anyway, see the article for a full overview and links to iFixit for step by step installation instructions.

  • Ordered and got an email re AMEX statement credit immediately. Great deal!

  • Bought one. Thanks OP. Great deal.

  • +1

    No … Amex …. :(

  • Silly question, with the amex offer, does it mean that i can get $30 back straight away, or i will have $30 to spend at Kogan?

    • You get $30 back on your card

    • I understand that the $30 credit appears on your Amex statement.

      • +7

you guys just costed me $164.10

        • Same here… now I got a spare 256gb lying around now.

  • SHIPPING PRICE WILL VARY
Website says an extra $12 to ship to Perth ($27 in total), bringing total up to $206.10, or $176.10 after Amex discount

    • +1

Ugh, we're closer to Hong Kong but we get stung more for postage.

  • -1

Looks like a sweet deal. Samsung offers 5 year warranty of this SSD. How does it work if I buy it from Kogan, it is obviously non AU stock… Can anyone advise please? Thanks guys

    • +1

I presume you would need to deal with Kogan rather than Samsung Australia?

      • +1

Kogan advertises the product with only 1 year warranty. It's shipped from HK, so if anything goes wrong after one year I would need to ship it to Samsung in HK and probably pay extra for having the replacement shipped back to AU, if it's possible at all). I rather spend 65 bucks more at MSY/CPL/Scorptec and have that peace of mind for additional 4 years than deal with Kogan and/or lose 4 years of warranty…

        • You can actually pay for extended warranty with Kogan if that's something you're interested in

        • 5 year Warranty is with the manufacturer not the store you bought it from.

        • -1

With the manufacturer in Hong Kong not in Australia.

  • Note there is no GST on these Kogan (overseas) products, so if you are buying for business you can't claim the 10% GST as an input credit.
    Still a great deal, though.

  • +1

Hubby will be happy with my purchase for him. Think about the games he can store on this new gaming SSD…

    • +4

      and pr0n

  • Is this basically the same speed as the Sandisk Ultra II? Its roughly the same price, ($168.00 AUD delivered) from amazon.uk. No Amex cashback required.

Or is this drive fractionally quicker and more reliable?

  • +2

Australia Model: MZ-75E500BW 5 years local warranty.
    MZ-75E500 not Australia Model

    • they've stated warranty information on the listing though? hmm, misleading if warranty is not actually included.

  • Would it be worth getting this to fit into a 2010 MacBook Pro 13"? Would kick in some new life to the lappy for a great price!

    • Yep, put an SSD in my 2011 MacBook Pro 13 and its great, best thing ever.

  • +2

Purchase via Qantas online mall for an additional 2 QFF points per dollar plus the Kogan bonus 1 point per dollar for entering your QFF number into your profile. Netted 800 QFF points on this purchase. https://onlinemall.qantaspoints.com

  • Is it recommend to pay Kogans $2 postage insurance?

    • I did. It's only $2. Probably not necessary on an SSD - it's not easily breakable.

  • Just wondering if other party will jump in with similar price hehe
    Should I wait ;P

    • Yes. Wait.
It will be cheaper in the future.

  • Cheers OP, grabbed one. $164 for a 500GB EVO is a deal!

  • Anyone successfully checkout with their CBA Amex?

    • I have amex with another bank - I have to do an annoying verification thing as I haven't used that card on their site before.

  • Only 1 year warranty… not so much of a deal (Samsung offers 5 years if bought locally).

    • I think you'd probably be still covered by the MFR warranty - the option appeared to be Kogan's separate extended warranty option.

      • Oops didn't read it thoroughly. Sounds like after 12 months you would need to deal with the manufacturer and ship it off somewhere for ages.
Keep regular backups I guess! In 5 years you'll might get a 1TB drive for like $50. I hope.

        • -1

In 5 years it will surely cost $50 but what if something goes wrong in 13 months from now? ;-)

    • +1

So you want to pay an extra $30 (or $60 with AMEX) to bet that the unit will die somewhere between 1-5 years?
That's not a good bet. The chance this will happen is far less than 30/194.
This is a great deal even considering the shorter warranty.

  • +2

Just bought this SSD from MSY 3 days ago to upgrade my Alienware Alpha. Paid $225 and thought that was cheap.

Those of you looking to replace your existing HDD/SSD without reinstalling windows and all your programs I highly recommend using Macrium Reflect to clone your existing HDD/SSD to your new SSD. Once cloning is finished just pop out your old HDD/SSD and put the new one in and boot up as usual, all too easy.

    • At least you scored yourself additional 4 years of warranty unlike Kogan's 1 year…

      • Honestly at the rate SSDs are advancing, I'm pretty sure in 5 years this SSD will be considered obsolete and be replaced by something better. Doubt I will worry about the warranty by then.

        • And what about 13 months from now? If something goes wrong you are covered, Kogan's stock is not ;-)

      • -1

Why the negative vote? It's true…

    • Great advice. I also use Macrium just as you describe.

    • +2

Samsung has a free data migration tool. I've used it once, worked flawlessly.

    • Will the free version be adequate for migration?

      • Yes. That's what I use.

    • I've used the migration application that comes with Samsung drives a couple of times and it works great!

  • Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can provide a link or explain how to move all my Windows 10 installation to the new SSD without having to reinstall Windows? I'm likely going to replace my current SSD in my laptop with this new one.

edit: nvm Ekrel explained how to do it in the comments before.

  • Can these be turned into an external hd? Using a 2.5" usb 3.0 external hdd enclosure

Any recommendations on which to order if it can be done?

    • +1

Yes, they can be used as an external HDD. Any 2.5" USB3.0 enclosure will do but I guess you should look for UASP support for better performance.

  • Just picked one of these up! Thanks for the deal!

  • Cheers op, got myself one.

  • Grabbed one for my gf. She has two OCZ drives with Cold Boot issues (luckily her boot drive is an M.2 Samsung Evo. Rock solid for the price.

Can stuff the old OCZ drives into USB 3.0 enclosures.

  • Bought one but paid with paypal - would the Amex $30 credit be recognised since I paid with PayPal?

    • No, you should have paid directly with Amex.

  • Bought one but it says "Expected dispatch date 10 May 2016". Looks like it is not AU stocks. Not happy about it

    • Where does it say that?

    • +1

If you looked in this thread prior to placing your purchase or have researched Kogan before placing your purchase you would have known of their business model.

  • -2

When I mentioned it here yesterday, also letting others know that it comes with only 1 year warranty I scored 2 negative ratings… No point participating in this childish forum.

    • Somebody's having fun…

    • You got negg'd for saying "not so much of a deal" not for pointing out the warranty.
Plus, you don't know that Samsung won't honor the 5 years. That 1 year is just Kogan saying that's all they give you.
In fact if you investigate our consumer laws in Australia you will find that you can expect much better than 1 year for an item like this. I can tell you - if mine has a problem in 13 months, I will be requiring Kogan to provide repair or replacement - and I will get it.

      • I can tell you - if mine has a problem in 13 months, I will be requiring Kogan to provide repair or replacement - and I will get it.

You'll be buying it from Kogan HK, not Kogan Australia. They are as subject to Australian consumer law as much as your local corner shop is subject to Hong Kong consumer law.

        • Wrong. See my replies below.

        • +1

@Jangle: Is Kogan HK subject to Australian law, or did Kogan decide to provide cover?

Have you claimed anything from Kogan HK under the statutory warranty?

Would you be able to stretch the statutory warranty to 5 years?

  • -1

Are you sure that all those consumer rights you mentioned above are applicable to non Australian stock? In regards to 'not so much of a deal', it's just my point of view, looking at the deal from the warranty perspective. If deals are just about how much it costs at the time and POS then it's a great one indeed.

    • +2

From the Kogan HK terms and conditions…
"Kogan HK will repair, replace or refund faulty or damaged Products in accordance with the Warranty Terms and Conditions and Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law."
You see - even though it's Kogan HK, the Australian Consumer Law still applies.

      • +1

        and I missed this bit…
"Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes, restricts or modifies the consumer guarantees provided for by statute including under the Australian Consumer Law."

  • Thanks Op. Hopefully I did it all correctly. Much appreciated.

  • Thanks OP, have ordered one. i'm taking the risk around warranty and still have to verify my AMEX so haven't fully completed the order.

Now the wait begins.. and not doubt by the time it arrives the standard price will be $160-170 for Aus stock :-/…let's hope not!

  • Still waiting for it to show up on my AMEX card. Does anyone know how long this should take? I ordered it on the Friday?

    • For me the $30 credit appeared the day after the Kogan purchase cleared. Still waiting for it to be shipped of course.

      • Verified purchase today also saw the credit had been paid which is nice. Shame shipping is on 1-2 weeks though. SSD prices might drop by then. Oh well. $30 buffer might help

    • Did you pay through PayPal?
      If so it's an exlusion.

Otherwise "Credit should appear on your billing statement within 5 days from qualifying spend but may take up to 90 days from 9/6/2016."

  • Mine has dispatched yay

    • nice! when did you order yours?
