  • i been using this phone for a over a year, cant fault it with the chipset and feature at 134!!! i even get the music edition but it was a disappointment at the audio out put.

The next gen is even better with the audio department however

    • Yes, very nice phone at this price. I am also using it for the last 1 year. The only issue I have now is the battery life. Doesn't last more than 24 hours after a full recharge. But still a very good phone for the price.

      • you should be able to get a replacement battery, try evil bay, else your hope is the china's evay: Taobao

  • Have you got a Marshmallow OTA for yours by any chance? I know it was being rolled out in India last month.

    • Yes it's out OTA on ROW

    • you need to have the ROW rom in order to get the ota

      • Can you just flash that ROM on?

        • yes and you need to use sp flash tool or something, its all on xda if you so a simple search

  • Tempted by second sim is only 2G which is closing in 2017.

    • +2

I don't think there is even a single dual sim model currently in market that will support 3G/4G, i.e in other words ALL dual sim phones currently in market will cease to work (second sim) in 2017.

      • it depends if these dual sim phones are truly 2g though?
from my understanding it could be that they are 3g chipsets that have the data crippled/disabled so that there isnt the logistical situation of which sim the data is coming from ?

eg. if you have a nokia 3310 you are in trouble - but not necessarily dual sim phones?

        • +3

I mean for all dual sim phones currently available, one of the SIM will not be usable by 2017. As far as I know, all dual sim phones at the moment can only do 2G on the other slot, rather than 3G.

        • @wildstone:

I think I am wrong anyway. Dont worry.

Letv (LeEco) Le 1s is Dual 4G(LTE) Dual Sim mobile. As suggested in specs both sim are 4G(LTE) standby.

        Popular in India & China.

    • my sons xioami redmi note 2 runs the second sim for data, it's an Optus data share sim
only, so definitely 3G possibly 4G need to check on his next connections.

      • +3

@wildstone is correct. Dual sim phones are dual standby 3G but not dual active 3G. Whichever sim you have set as the data sim will be the 3G/4G sim. The 'non data' SIM defaults back to 2G. Been battling this problem for years.

I believe there is one or 2 phones available that are dual 3G (not in Australia). The issue comes from the drain 2 dual active chipsets has on the battery. They will have to find a way around it when 2G goes….

        • +1

Hey worthy1, can you please let me know which phones are dual 3G? Been searching and searching but can't find even one that has that. I understand it drains battery, but if that phone has a removable battery then it is probably not too bad. Thanks.

        • +1

They will have to find a way around it when 2G goes….

          2 phones? B)

        • @wildstone:
It was a while ago i found the article that had a link to it, it was a chinese branded phone and a i dont believe it was a top manufacturer. I think the Nokia Lumina Dual sim claims to be but never looked into it any further.

Have to be careful when companies refer to their phones as 'dual active' also. What they mean is both are active all the time, meaning you can still receive a call when the other is in use, not that they both work on 3G/4G simultaneously.

This article has some good info on it but no reference to phones with working 3G for both SIMS, which makes me think there still isnt an answer to the problem

          http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/test-centre/mobile-phone/20-best-…

        • So basically better wait for 2018 to get a new dual sims phone ?

As a lot of dual sims phones are for China market, which I presume is still supporting 2G, does that mean will be hard to find a dual sims phones that support 3G and 4G or 3G and 3G or 4G and 4G ?

        • @Aplpw: the xiaomi mi5 is dual sim dual active 4g/3g. So one sim is on 4g, the other 3g. You can find proof on the miui forums.

        • @Jules66:

Thanks, I guess it does not support Band 28 since it is a Chinese phone ?

        • @Aplpw:
Correct. However the snapdragon 820 does support all global bands and xiaomi locks the modem firmware for unknown reasons. Owners of the mi5 are trying to find a way past this modem lock on the xda forums.

        • @Jules66:

Thanks! I did a search and see it mentions in this thread:
          http://en.miui.com/thread-241418-1-1.html

How's the battery life do you know?

Do you know if there are any other phones that does dual active 4g/3g? Thanks.

        • @Jules66:
I would definitely be keen to see a link to where they say both sims actively run 3g/4g. Again the meaning thrown around for 'dual active' is a lot different to what we want. We want dual 3g/4g reception not dual can use 'two sim cards' at the same time.

I hope it is though as the Mi 5 is what i have been looking at anyway and i wouldnt be suprised if the China market is the first to work it out/release it. I also thought band coverage is a antenna hardware/chipset thing not a firmware thing. If it was firmware i would have thought companies can just send out an update to make their 3G phones receive the 4G band….

As far as waiting until 2018? who knows what they will have worked out by then. I had the the LG optimus and receiption on that phone was great on the 2G sim. I now have the Moto G 2nd gen and barely get 2nd sim reception unless im outdoors, its real bad. At the end of the day the reception is what you need on the 2nd sim, you only need one sim to use 3G data, if you want to use the other sims data then switch it. The problem comes when the reception you get on that 2nd sim is poor and you arent getting the phone calls you need.

        • @worthy1:

From the screenshots of this thread it does seem like it supports 4G on one, 3G on other, as it is shown. Though like you I definitely would like someone who actually has the phone to confirm that that's the case:

          http://en.miui.com/thread-241418-1-1.html

        • @wildstone:
That would be good as dual 4G sim phones are around and i dont believe they work that way. The screenshot does show the reception bar as one being 4G and the other 3G which is a good sign! Of course still useless until we can use the 4G band on it hear.

My question is what happens to the second sim when they walk out of 4G coverage, does it automatically roll back to 2G anyway. Maybe not an issue depending on where you live…

        • @worthy1:

I would imagine it falls back to 3G if 4G is out of coverage. Again if there are anyone who owns a Mi5 can confirm that that would be great.

        • @wildstone:
Yeh it would, but then the second sim would revert back to 2G putting us back at the same problem.. So really they need to sort out the 4G band to work here and then you need to be in 4G coverage all the time to get the benefit.

Im pretty much sold on the Mi 5 regardless, but just waiting for the right deal :)

        • @worthy1:

          Nokia/Microsoft Lumias are dual standby.

I went to Japan (no 2G) with my Lumia 640 LTE DS and only one SIM would work at a time.

    • if its the indian version, second sim is also 4g, but i thought both versions were identical

  • is the battery removable?

    Better phone for this price
But if you can afford more its better to go for MI Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime(Got best reviews)
and Only problem is it takes 40-45 days to get your shipment if you buy through Aliexpress

  • I have a K3, superb phone for the price. Just missing gorilla glass.

    • it has dragontrail

  • Guys is there any way to connect this phone to your TV via HDMI

    • Search, "mini sub to HDMI." Apart from Chromecast, you can also screen cast. I do this for the footy and it's ok.

    • Not with a cable, cast only.

  • -2

Is this better than necus 5

    • -1

      yes

    • there is a substantial price difference between the two, both great phones.

For the price, the K3 Note

      For the power, Nexus 5

      • I mean original Nexus 5 2013

  • +20

I had 5 of these phones in my family. 4 of them have required lcd changes due to touch issues where part of the lcd more commonly bottom right or thereabouts was dead. Look it up. Fifth one is now playing up too, bottom right edge part. Tried rooting and changing custom roms etc to no avail. All bar one were purchased from JD.
    Lenovo NEVER again.
I can only recommend you invest in Xiaomi instead…

    • +6

I was about to post the same thing. My lcd died after a week, couldn't use areas of the phone and it kept spreading. Made the phone useless in the end, lucky my eBay warranty covered me.

Cheap price, but I've heard many people having the same issues.

On a positive note, my replacement K3 Note is still running perfectly. Decent phone for the price. I've just bought a Xiaomi Note 3 Pro to replace my K3

    • I am pretty sure this is ROM related.

I had mine with the same issue when i flashed mine with (can't remember the name of the rom) custom rom.

Then flashed back to ROW Rom, problem gone.

And yes, this is one of the best cheap chinese android phone.

      • Tried all that, no luck. Tried the diagnostic tools that the phone has as well as the Lenovo diagnostic app. It confirmed the issues.

    • so did you get free replacements from JD?

      • +1

No. I sucked it up and purchased them from AliExpress for USD20 a pop. A lot easier than sending off, and then waiting for 3 months if the seller agrees. JD are useless if following up a seller is involved.
Edit: Damn, the LCD digitiser assembly is only US $16.59 now….

Same here. Paper weight after 1 week.

Just bought a xiaomi mi 4, hopefully that fairs better.

  • My first K3 note for sin still having mic problem when making call, other couldn't hear him and he heard himself talking.

My second one is OK and updated to Andriod 6 OTA.

  • Thanks OP. Was going to buy myself a new digitiser and pay some poor sap to fit it, but this makes a lot more sense at ~$130. Unreal price for this phone.

  • +2

I've had one since their release and it has been problem free. On 6.0 now and apart from a few software problems related to the ROM I'm using, it's been excellent.

Anyone unsure because of the lack of gorilla glass just buy one of the 2.5D glass screen protectors. If you apply it with a clean glass it has no affect on screen viewing and gives you when better protection than gorilla glass, and is replaceable!

The only thing I miss vs a flagship phone is wireless charging. It never hangs, bogs down under load, and the screen is excellent. I've new had any of the touch issues that others are talking about at all

    • +1

      same here

  • +2

I bought one it's not very good. Screen cracked just from trying to take the battery out, thankfully it was fixed at no cost to us except shipping. But the wifi is terrible one room away from the modem while all our other devices are fine

    • I have to say that I'm extremely surprised to hear that. But things happens.

  • Sounds like bad QC. Better to go with more reliable brands (xiaom mi 4 or asus zenfone 2) and pay a bit more for ease of mind.

  • Still waiting for an affordable smart band so I can use my stylish manual watches.

  • I bought one as an upgrade from my original Motorola G so should be a decent improvement all round.

Thanks for putting the deal up OP.

    • +2

keep in mind that this phone has several issues with touch stuffing up, a simple google search will show you how many there are. Also you will need to install the ROW rom to get rid of spyware. My phone has been sent overseas for repairs as i bought it from a lenovo reseller, but you wont get any warranty

      • That's not a problem. I've read the comments and Googled it and at this price I'm more than happy to take a chance - thanks for the heads up.

        • +1

So was I a year ago, paid $124. Digitiser issues began early on, put up with it then screen cracked in my pocket. Replaced screen and second screen cracked. This is the only mobile I have cracked a screen on in nearly 20 years.

        • @BartholemewH:

thats weird. i have dropped my phone on concrete and the screen still didnt crack, keep in mind your replacement wasnt an original

  • Better than galaxy s4? Worth upgrading?

    • +2

its much better than the s4, but i would say the camera of the s4 is better

      • Yeah lenovo camera sucks

  • +2

I've been using the K3 note for a year now. If there is one piece of advice for someone thinking about making the change to this or a similar phone, you need to consider the lack of SOFTWARE support. As with all non-mainstream phones, you find that the only way to get a decent OS is searching through forums from people who dedicate their time to making custom ROMs. YES, Lenovo does provide regular updates, but they are plagued with bloatware. While there are some great custom ROMs out there for this phone, I find that none of them are reliable. I'll have to flash every few months due to stability and performance issues. Right now, the I'm running the latest ROW rom which keeps leaking memory to the point where I have to restart my phone. I'm honestly over doing this on a regular basis, and just want a reliable phone. This phone based purely on hardware specs is fantastic for the price. However, specs can only go so far without OPTIMIZED software to utilize them. It's for this reason why I've been considering making the change to a pricier phone (like a Nexus) just because I know it will have great software support. Trust me, this makes such a HUGE difference to your user experience, and I'm yet to find a phone that has both great specs and support for a similar price (~$200 AUD).

    • +2

      Couldnt agree more.

For me Xiaomi does both. Nexus is the best.

      • yep xiaomi has decent/okay software support and GREAT hardware. Nexus and iOS are however the gold standards for these things, but then again both those brands are more expensive.

    • I've read about the memory issue for some, but I installed ROW straight up and have never had an issue.

      • especially after updated to marshmallow.

  • this phone is the best on the market at this price. My sun use one of k3 for a last year and I could say that lenova is better than my own sony m4 and much cheaper

  • Anyone has experience buying from these guys? What's is the delivery time needed? Normally I can wait for months even as it will be a spare phone but I'm moving to another apartment in 3 weeks.

  • +1

Btw $101 us pretty much the new price now though several AliExpress sellers as it is now being cleared off. No need to rush yourselves of you're not sure.

    • That's right. Not a bad price but don't have to jump at it. A wave of new super phones are coming out of China right now, and these mid range models of the past are discounted

  • I've had this phone for several months. Everything is good except the camera. My s3 has a better camera. Other then that, no complaints.

  • +1

Looks like someone got a fake on Aliexpress.

Fortunately it was from Shenzhen Yi Chuang Electronic Co., Ltd. that no longer have any products for sale and a weird threat.

Eternal have much better reviews so we should be in the clear.

  • Just logged into Aliexpress website to check my order and got a message saying mine was lost in transit and now they don't have any black ones left…sigh.

Guess I'll go with a white one.

    Anyone else have this?

  • Got it today and had Chinese ROM installed. Followed this information and changed it to stock ROW Lenovo ROM: http://www.cyberkey.in/how-to-install-stock-rom-on-lenovo-k3…

Haven't had a chance to play with it but looks good.
