  • The HTC is cheaper on the ebay 15% off from Kogan.

    • my HTC came as standard asian language and apps from asia i cant get rid of from Kogan.

      • Mine was in Chinese but took 2 seconds to change during setup, had no Asian apps on mine. I wouldn't recommend anyone buying the M9 from anywhere… Just save up m10 or s7 :)

        • +1

yes it seems like a real lucky dip from kogan , i agree go for the m10

    • Not a real comparison given Local stock, local manufacturer 2 year warranty. Kogan Stock, Kogan 12 month warranty.

Microsoft could do with some Lumia sales http://www.gsmarena.com/microsoft_sold_only_23_million_lumia…

    • I wonder if sales could be better without their os and the competitons android os instead?

      • Probably. If they use Nokia designs rather than the newer Microsoft phone designs, people will go for it.

        Doubt it will happen though.

  • +2

When did they hike up their shipping rates? $14.95 delivery to 3000 is unreasonable

  • +1

Just bought a Lumia 930 as I just lost my Blackberry also bought from them for cheap… I will use it as a secondary device. Hope I wont regret..

  • +1

Just picked up a Lumia 930 to replace a 532 hopefully the improvement is worth the $$$ thanks TRENT86.

  • +3

Lumia 930$ is available in green only. i m using 920 in yellow but green - seriously!!

can we use this sony watch with lumia or iOS? it says android only in desc.

    • Android wear is compatible with iOS although not as functional as on android, I don't think it works with windows phones though.

      • +1

        This is not android wear

    • +4

According to an old Engadget review required android 4.0 and up. IMO the watch is a bit old for $125.

  • +3

Green phone is easier to find when the kids drop it under the car seat.😊

    • +2

I can attest to this. Easier find in low light too.

      • true had a 735 with orange casing, super easy to spot

  • +1

I bought my girlfriend an 830 because she only uses a few apps. I'd buy a 930 at that price but I don't think there are enough apps on Windows Store. Fix it MS!

    • +6

They can't fix it, that's why the phone is this price in the first place

      • +1

Shame, I do like windows phone otherwise. Developers seem to have left it for dead.

        • When the whole world is buying Samsung and LG phones, this is gonna happen.

      • +15

It's great when my needs are met by an ecosystem that's considered by the general populace to be insufficient. The phone design is excellent, implementation of features in WM10 is decent and universal apps mean my PC, surface devices and phone work together very well.

Of course it's all opinion, but I spent a few months with an iPhone 6 and years with android… Specific Apps don't make the world go around for me and I consider this a blessing.

        • -8

OK only person in the world that thinks not having apps is a good thing, I'm happy you feel that way.

OK only person in the world that thinks not having apps is a good thing

Wow, way to be ignorant and exaggerate what has been said. Fair enough if you like other platforms but no need to fanboi your platform and sh*t on everyone else.

Windows Phone has all the necessities, most social networking apps are there, most banking apps are there, productivity and other apps are all present. I'm glad there aren't thousands of copycat apps on Windows Phone like there are on Android and iOS.

I've had a Windows Phone for the last 5 years and have not come across a "must-have" app that I needed to switch platforms for.

        • -2

@IceCreamBandit: And yet I have apps that I dearly wish were on Android when they're on iOS only.

BTW I think you're a tad offended without cause, I'm not bashing the OS or anyone but it remains that most people don't believe not having various apps is a good feature to have ;)

        • +2

          @Diji1:

Never said not having apps were a desirable feature, but apps, like phones, aren't all that important, it just makes life more convenient. I'm sure whatever you're craving you can still live without.

I don't need an app for everything so that I'm stuck to a screen all day.

It's just that most people continue to associate Windows Phone with not having any apps when that's not the case.

        • +2

@Diji1: Nah, just means I don't have to limit my OS choice to a certain app's availability.

        • +1

          @Diji1:

I hardly use apps. Full webpages are much more functional.

        • @Diji1:

          This isn't a bad app. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/apps/oz-bargain/9nblgg…

Even better than the iOS and Android alternatives I've tried. I like that it has a dark theme for viewing at night. :)

Full webpages normally suck on a 5 inch display. And edge is a poor browser that adds to the frustration of navigating on a phone. lol

        • @IceCreamBandit:

Windows Phone has all the necessities, most social networking apps are there, most banking apps are there, productivity and other apps are all present

iOS and android have those apps too and then some. There doesn't seem to be one good reason to switch to windows phones, which is why their market share is still so small.

It's just that most people continue to associate Windows Phone with not having any apps when that's not the case.

I don't use either app but is there an official non-beta app of Snapchat and Instagram on there? Most Google apps aren't on their either. Yes, there are alternatives, and if you never used an android phone, you might go for a windows one but I'd be unlikely to switch if I have to use alternatives to the Google apps.

        • @ozhunter:

iOS and android have those apps too and then some

Like I said in a previous comment, if you're going to count total apps, of course you'll win with your thousands of copycat apps (and real ones). I didn't say that it would be good to switch to Windows Phone, I certainly don't recommend it to those currently on Android/iOS and enjoying their experience, but as someone who's been on it for a while, I have no reason to leave either.

I don't use either app but is there an official non-beta app of Snapchat and Instagram on there?

Third party instagram is better so it's a non-issue. I believe there is a third party app for Snapchat as well. Do you want to continue this line of questioning with every app you can see on your device? If so, google the answers yourself because I won't bother responding to "Oh oh oh do you have this? Because I do!".

As I've also said in a previous comment, my life does not begin and end with apps on my phone, but if that's the case for you to a point where you need to compare who's got more apps, then I'm sorry for you. I have what I need and lots of other users do too.

        • @IceCreamBandit:

Not only because it has more apps; it's more polished on iOS and android. It also takes longer for them for a windows version which sucks if you ever play some games with friends on it

Third party instagram is better so it's a non-issue

Definitely an issue, I rather not use 3rd party apps, even if it has one or two extra features.

I have what I need and lots of other users do too.

Maybe it does for you, maybe not. Obviously most people prefer android/iOS. spazattack91 complained there's a lack of apps; everyone knows it to be true. No point trying to defend it just because you don't need or use apps.

        • +1

          @ozhunter:

Yep so others may have a different opinion, shock horror. And you've professed to the world you adore the almighty google and their apps, cool story. So what's up with your insistence on attacking the platform? I never claimed superiority with Windows Phone, in fact I've said that I wouldn't recommend others to it. What more do you want?

So go enjoy your polish and first party only apps. Competition (with developers and platforms in its entirety) are good for the industry. iOS and android have stolen (sorry, gotten inspiration) from each other for so many features. No matter how much of a fanboy(girl?) you are for either of the major platforms, you need to recognise that. I would hate to see what would happen if your beloved Google never tried to take on Apple and they had full control of the market.

Not even sure why you've bothered commenting. You obviously could not care less for Windows Phone, so good work picking on the platform with the smallest platform/least apps/crappiest developers. You must be proud.

        • @IceCreamBandit:

Google is almighty? Well, if that's how you perceive them…

I'm saying how the platform is, and that is it lacks apps.

Maybe Microsoft could use some inspiration from them and get rid of that tile ui; it's not doing them any favors.

the platform with the smallest platform/least apps/crappiest developers.

          At least you admit it.

        • @ozhunter:

Google is almighty? Well, if that's how you perceive them…

Your previous comments reek of your lust for them. I'm merely saying it satisfy your refusal to accept a competitor's presence.

I'm saying how the platform is, and that is it lacks apps

And just like that you're repeating yourself. Oh no, no apps. Windows Phone is doomed. Better sell all things microsoft related. God forbid ozhunter sees you with anything not on their list of acceptable devices. And I better use those first party only apps too. Third party developers be damned if they want to have a go.

          At least you admit it.

I said that several comments ago that Microsoft weren't the best around. Glad you got your head around something eventually, it's been entirely up somewhere else this entire comment thread.

        • the apps preinstalled on the phone just work well, so no need to buy other apps.
free voice turn nav, unified inbox, great camera app, podcast, music , transit, weather, glance
maybe thats why the developers arent making because the demand isnt there, because pre installed are just right.
of course IE is unusable on any OS lol!

      • 930 was about 600 when it came out
The 950 model is about a grand now

    • +5

Apps is the main reason why I left my beloved Windows Mobile, even standard social media apps like Instagram is still in beta. Lack features compared to their ios and android counter part.

      • +1

This. Even the apps they do have are subpar and lack the features of the other mobile OS's.

      • +1

Kinda same reason as my girlfriend (she complained about Wechat not working properly, which was one of the main reason why she wanted a smartphone to begin with). While I moved on for a different reason (given an Android phone for free, I kinda like tweaking my phone and Android was more my type of OS), I kinda saw similar problems with Kakaotalk and bank apps + I was expecting some form of integration of UX which wasn't there for me.

I really did like my Lumia 925, it took better picture than my brother's S4 active + for some reasons I can't remember, I found it to be better even though spec-wise S4 active was the better one. I kinda was going back and forth for awhile until I chose to go with Android (still kinda am fond of Windows Phone, probably biased towards them). Other than the app stuff, my girlfriend likes Windows Phone more than Android. Though be fair, her experience with Android started fairly badly, so she's kinda given an impression that you have to know a lot to make Android work for you (which I think is a misconception, but that might be because I am a geek).

  • +1

if you buy a lumia you can put win 10 on it http://www.windowscentral.com/how-install-windows-10-preview…

after install it updates alot then says in version its a full build not a preview build

    • +1

Does installing Windows 10 mean not being able to use HERE / Drive+ any more?

      • +1

That's correct from June (I think) you won't be able to use here and drive+

      • +5

You can use the Maps for Windows 10 App which is just as good cause it integrates HERE Drive into its nav system. The map itself isn't bad, especially the offline map.

        • +1

yeh its ok, doing the same thing as google with their maps just not as good.

  • +2

Thank you OP, bought another Lumia 930 to compliment my orange one which I purchased at HN nearly 1.5 years ago for $650!

  • +1

Just bought a Lumia 930. Love the green (I've owned one before!)

  • Just letting everyone know 930 does not support LTE 700mhz (4GX)
I used to have lumia 830 (and also owned N4) a year ago and liked camera feature and new os but I want to remind people that you should not expect it to be fast. But at 178, I think it's a good buy.

    • +1

I'm sure people won't mind the extra second they have to wait to download a large program, which is not all that common with apps.

      • +2

Have you used a windows phone? lol

The app store is an abomination, 4gx won't save you from slow download times on the app store anyhow. :)

        • To be honest, I only use windows phone to use windows apps like office, email etc. lol
My main phone is an s7 edge.

        • @cDNA: yup its my work phone, use android for all the other stuff :)

    • I used to have lumia 830 (and also owned N4) a year ago and liked camera feature and new os but I want to remind people that you should not expect it to be fast.

WTF… I own one and it's still zippy as hell. Awesome camera on it too.

  • -1

Yeah the Lumia 930 came out mid 2014, was around $700 phone. WOW Microsoft phones lose their resale value fast! Pity the 950XL users that paid almost $1200

    • +5

Fast? It's close to a two year old phone by your figure …

      • That's true I picked up my 930 $200 used 6 month after release it appears. I thought this was a much older phone than August 2014. In comparison I sold my note 4 for $500 secondhand 12 months after the phone was released, which I bought new for around $600.

And mind you the 830 was released at $579 November 2014 according to the net. A $600 phone losing 1/3rd it value within 18 months is normal.

  • 930 out of stock already :(

    • Wow, indeed they are… A great buy at that price.

      • I bought one, I can resell my old one for the same price. This gives me a refresh 2 year warranty. :)

        • I bought one to replace my chipped 1520 (dropped phone on screen, crack across top corner) which also suffered from the phantom touch issue and OIS failure.

I can put up with everything aside from a shaky camera, so this was perfect timing.

        • @ctg:

The main issue with the 930 I find is poor battery life. Especially on 10, even with light use I need to charge everyday, where I could get 3 on 8.1. Yes I also happened to dropped mine the other day, the phone is still fine but the metal edge is scratched up now so not in mint like it was. Also the speaker phone isn't working, but that wasn't from dropping and is a common fault on the 930s/phones.

        • @Ronnnie: Yeah, battery life isn't stellar, but most of the newer phones last very long either. My 1520 is night top of the endurance ratings on gsmarena and it means I don't need to charge every night (although I still do).

Worst case scenario, 28 Degrees insurance claim like I did with my 1520. They paid out the phone value in full when I provided a quote for screen and camera repair. Ass is covered!

        • @ctg:

Wireless charging is handy, and I found with a fast charger the 930 seems to charge up quite quick. Yeah in comparison with most newer phones it's ok, you are looking at around 3 hours sot ime if you stick on wifi. Can drop down to 2 hours once you are away from wifi though.

        • @Ronnnie: also over heating

        • @ctg: re: 28 deg insurance. So it sounds like you dropped your phone in the first 6 months of owning it?

    • They got ozbargained so quick.

  • 930 seems to be back in stock

    • Adds to cart but when u go pay its out of stock

    • And now, back out of stock :o Add to cart button removed, with pink pop up notification.

    • Yeah seems to be out of stock. Would have wanted one. Missed out.

  • Honestly I think this is way too much for a HTC M9 at this point in time and you can get much more phone for the dollar now.

  • +3

HN should be banned from this site. They never have stock at any store closer than 500kms away (and I live in Melbourne) and the shipping charges are usurious. After trying at least 6 times to buy sale items from them I have given up. F#%k 'em. They just waste everyone's time.

    • Damn, we got Dick'd. :(

Seriously, I tried to buy that Voda Pocket WiFi (14GB deal was it?) at Gordon HN, they told me it wasn't in stock even though I could see it right on display.

I asked the guy "hey isn't that…" he said "all pocket WiFis look the same, you're just confused"

I told him it was the same product code as listed as the website (website said no stock).

He still refused to sell it to me, insisting this was a slightly different model that "doesn't have a have different product code" because "that's what Vodafone does"

  • +1

I use the Lumia 830. Great phone. Very snappy and a great camera. I've never found myself short of apps either despite that being the main counter-selling point of Windows phones.

    • +1

Yes, the paucity of useful apps is very much overstated by most detractors…as somebody else wisely pointed out in another thread, if you can live without an overabundance of farting apps, then you should get on just fine! ;)

      • The issue is there are some apps that make it deal breakers. My car has an app so that I can set it to charge up to 100%, or turn on the heater or a/c to warm it up off the grid before I take off, or tell me when it's fully charged if I am somewhere out. That's just a deal breaker to not have that straight up. There's always some app you need that isn't available, or you get the app and then realise half way through something important that a feature is missing which makes the app virtually useless.

I had the 920 for 9 months when it was released, and I loved that thing, I still recommend Windows Phone for anyone who wants an easy to use phone with a good camera, as long as they don't care about apps.

  • Any 930 in WA. Called all the store nearby but seem no luck :(

  • miss out , too late for Lumia 930 , it " add to cart " disappeared .

  • Sony watch worth it at this price? i know phones .. dunno much about smart watches :)

    • -1

      I was thinking it too.
A quick search seems that these were releaseed late 2013 http://www.cnet.com/au/products/sony-smartwatch-2/
and arent for sale by Sony anymore http://www.sony.com.au/product/sw2

seems a bit expensive for the age I think. Looks like I keep looking for newer and save my dollars.

    • It's an OK watch, not great. A bit sluggish but may have been patched to run faster. Waterproof which is always good and doesn't require a propriety charger (charges off micro USB)

This price is pretty consistent with what you'll find around the net. Prices tend to range from $100 - $150

  • the two lumia phones have excellent cameras, but cant find stock anywhere nearby.
the sony smartwatch weighs 122g - thats about the weight of a smartphone.

    • but how much does a normal stainless watch with a heavy stainless band weigh, it might be similar?

  • +2

Bought a Lumia 930 hoping for a decent camera, but it was quite disappointing. Shutter lag and whatnot

    • +1

      Its camera is amazing.

      • How did you reduce / eliminate the shutter lag?

        • all phones with 20MP have a lag, such as lumia 930, xperia z5, big photo files need time to store

        • @duodeta:

Big files cause lag after the shot is taken, while saving the jpeg files to SD card.

I was referring to Lumia 930 being laggy the moment shutter button is pressed, waiting for the sensor to capture the image.

Moreover, 20MP shouldn't really lag because flagship phones should have plenty of RAM to buffer the pics (Same as DSLRs using RAM to buffer)

    • The camera is good compared to other flagship phones from late 2013. Just remember that this phone is nexus 5 era, despite being released in Australia significantly later.

This is good for all those people that were looking for an upgrade to their older Lumias and don't want to pay $1000 for Lumia 950. :)

  • +2

just got me the sony smart watch 2.
seems like a ok deal for a smart watch

    • whats it like? I thought price seems OK but the watch is really old design (late 2013).
does it work fine, fell OK. what do you have it linked to?

      • +1

its not bad. it sends you texts and notifications. it was an impulse buy more than anything else…..

        • Thanks.
