1 Year VPN Subscription $20 (AUD) @ Vanished VPN

31

We've just launched our new VPN Service at www.vanishedvpn.com.au.

We aim to be Australia's cheapest (and best) VPN provider. Plans from $3.99 per month (on a year plan). If you get in quick, you can get a year plan for $20 (AUD) by backing us on Kickstarter (follow the link on our site.)

How are we different ?

1) We're Australian (most .com VPN providers aren't)
2) Our prices are in $AUD (not US $ like our competitors).
3) We don't throttle or log.
4) No limits

Please confirm log or not - by law you have to log if you or your servers are in Australia.
what about peer to peer? unlimited??

    • Servers are in Australia, US & UK.

We only log when you access, and how much data you use (not sites that you visit).

      No data limit (including P2P).

Then you're not complying with the data retention laws and will either be shut down or brought into line. Vanished may be a prescient name.

        • And you have been a saint all your life too.. FFS

        • VPN providers aren't included in the data retention laws.

Edit: not at all advocating for this specific provider. Who knows, they may actually be logging.

          "
          (3) This Part applies to a service if:
          (a) it is a service for carrying communications, or enabling communications to be carried, by means of guided or unguided electromagnetic energy or both; and
          (b) it is a service:
          (i) operated by a carrier; or
(ii) operated by an internet service provider (within the meaning of Schedule 5 to the Broadcasting Services Act 1992); or
(iii) of a kind for which a declaration under subsection (3A) is in force; and
          (c) the person operating the service owns or operates, in Australia, infrastructure that enables the provision of any of its relevant services;
but does not apply to a broadcasting service (within the meaning of the Broadcasting Services Act 1992)"

Go on downvote. It doesn't change reality.

          Interesting.

How can a service be trusted when your Terms of Service have clearly been copied from other places?
    http://www.vanishedvpn.com.au/terms.html

    • The best bit is copying somebody else's copyright policy :-)
The worst bit was cutting out the freebies (refer a friend, bonus bytes).

  • Thanks for the feedback. We'll certainly look at the data retention piece, and ensure that we comply. The links in the terms have also been corrected.

    • In your advertisement here, you say "4) No Limits"

But in the TOS I see:

VanishedVPN prohibits the use of any of its services in any of the following ways:
Spamming (e-mail, Usenet, message boards, etc.)
      Copyright, trademark, and patent infringement.
Defamatory or abusive language that advocates bigotry, religious, racial or ethnic hatred.
Publishing or sharing materials that are unlawfully pornographic or indecent
      IP Spoofing
Illegal or unauthorized access to other computers or networks
Distribution of Internet viruses, worms or other destructive activities
      Export control violations
      All other illegal activities

I dont disagree with your list, just be aware, advertising no limits, then enforcing limits, is a sure fire way to get sued.

Ever wonder why telco's stopped using "Unlimited" in their ads?
Because they were being used for illegal activities, shutting down said accounts, but then getting sued for false advertising.

      • -1

No limits = no limitation on your data usage (and no throttling). Obviously we prohibit the use of our Service for illegal activities.

        • -1

          That's the problem.
          Its not obvious.

Why do you think a vast group of users want a VPN?

"No Limits" listed on a service that is often used for shady dealings, isnt 'obviously restricted'.

  • Can I just add that I'm surprised by the amount of negativity in this thread.

We're a small business who have essentially taken a community platform and turned it into a Service offering. We're new, and not an established brand, so we're looking for support to continue our development, and launch new features.

The reason that I've posted on here is that we have some very cheap offers as part of our launch, and we intend to compete aggressively on price. We're also proudly Australia. So we fit the criteria of 'Oz - Bargain'.

We're obviously not the only player in this market, but we are honest, and genuinely want to provide a good service.

Its great to get feedback on aspects such as Data protection (providing its accurate). It would also be great to have some positive feedback if anyone has any.

I don't think people are being that negative really.
They're voiving some very real concerns and offering advice.

As I said, Telco's lost MILLIONS from promising 'no limits' then trying to enforce "no illegal activities". The quickly changed to buzz words like "Capless" and "UNLTD!" to be able to enforce it.

You can probably also appreciate the data retention laws are a VERY hot button topic for Australians.

      You've created a VPN provider.

The reason that I've posted on here is…

      Free advertising.

Pretty scary you're only just now considering this based on comments on OzBargain.

I've Googled the owner. He seems pretty switched on and genuine.

I take back my previous comment.

        Here's a +

It's a tough crowd that's for sure. Give a away a few and those happy customers can post here. Hard for people to give positives on a service they haven't tried.

Hi there.. Negativity and sarcastic comments are quite common on this forum..

There are many genuine oz bargainers who will take up your service and provide good feedback. Stay positive!

They got too much money and don't know what to do with it or they just plain stupid?

These VPN resellers pop up constantly. They charge you for the first year and then 1-2 months later they simply vanish.

I wonder if by any chance these are the same people that were behind the VPNVanish.com deal

  • I'd just like to say thanks to Oz Bargain for the buzz that was generated by this post. We saw a spike in local web traffic, and sign ups on Wednesday.

To give something back to the forum, I've created a 50% discount code:

    anzac16

If you enter this code during sign up, you will receive 50% of the subscription package for 1 cycle. The best use of this is on our annual subscription package. The code can only be used 50 times, so its first come first served.

Thanks again and have a great weekend.

    Kickstarter is not looking great…
    $160
    pledged of $1,550 goal
    9
    days to go

  • No, kickstarter has been slow.

We couldn't work out why people were signing up at the full price directlyrather than going for a cheaper deal on kickstarter, but I think the reason must be that our solution still unblocks US netflix (where others have been blocked), so people want access ASAP. We're also still one of the cheapest, so that probably explains it.

Thanks for signing up BTW. We've been rewarding our kickstarter backers to say thanks for putting faith in us, so I'll be in touch through there.
