Cyberlink PowerDVD 15 Ultra (+Bundle) 75% off - $54.95 (Save $245)

30

Received a 'members only' invitation to Cyberlink Power DVD 15 Ultra - but in fact I think it is available to all and sundry.

Expires April 12 (presumably USA date/time)

The "Bundle" includes

  • PowerDVD 15 Ultra (DVD player, + blue ray + 4K etc)
  • Power2Go 10 (disc burning)
  • MediaEspresso 7 (convert video/photos/music)
  • Photodirector 7 (Photo Editor)

There is also a 'coupon' to enable access to PowerDVD 16 (when released).. so I think this 'deal' is just to get get more cashflow before PowerDVD 16 is released.

I've never bought/used any of this software - so can't vouch for it, but it promises a lot.

Extended expiry to AUS 13/04/2016 - April 12 is USA date/time.

    Last time I got a version of this (with PC/HW) it was extremely bloated; hopefully it's changed, but something to be mindful of…

      Nope, still slowin' down yer i7's and taking 1/2 yer hdd.

    I can't believe they're still able to charge for this stuff with Netflix and the like around these days.

    • +2

      They do completely different things.

    • -2

      Dumbest comment ever. What the hell does netflix have to do with burning and copying DVDs.

      • It isn't even just that. PowerDVD is the best 3D Bluray playback software on PC by far. This includes ISO's.

      • Stupid comment. PowerDVD 15 Ultra isn't even that. It's the most popular full featured 3D blu-ray player software for your blu-ray reader/burner drive and also doubles as a 4K capable media player software.

      Wow. Settle down people.

      My whole point was, who the hell still uses DVDs and Blu rays anymore? The only Blu Rays I have are PS4 games, because it's cheaper than the Playstation Store.

      It's almost cheaper to sign up to Netflix, Presto and Stan (as in all 3 simultaneously) than to buy a new Blu Ray every month. And with Apple TV, WDTV, PS4/XB1 running Plex, etc, very few people watch movies on their PC anymore, it's brought digital media in to the living room.

        It's not just DVDs. Photo edits, make movies in different formats (not just DVD) of your videos off phones, from photos etc. They can be all digital on a drive to play on Hardware/network etc.
        Netflix etc can't do any of it.

          Fair enough. Power DVD isn't the first program that comes to mind if that's what I wanted, but to each their own.

          I still think my initial point was valid. Very few people use DVD/Blu Ray anymore (the main point of Power DVD), so I am surprised they can charge so much (RRP, not sale price).

          @juzz88: Remember, this is OzBargain…don't expect people to draw semantic links between discrete concepts, even if there is a firm tangential relationship.

          You've really gotta keep it concrete & simple around here or a lot of folks just don't get it…

          @juzz88: this software is really great for playback of HEVC X265 and produces a really sharp picture, YES people still watch movie's on a PC. I have a NUC hooked up to my TV ie HTPC?

          @juzz88:

          I wouldn't want it myself either.

          I've got other software for doing all that. I don't appreciate PowerDVD trying to take over my other apps as a one size fits all. I would prefer that all it did was play movies and not try to do everything. If I want to edit a photo, "power DVD" is not the most obvious thing I would think of to use for that purpose.

          I do agree that the Netflix argument is irrelevant though.

      When you buy a Blu-ray, you own it forever, and you can watch it whenever you want.

      With Netflix, you're at their mercy & there's no guarantee that you'll still be able to find the movie or TV show that you feel like watching.

      Example: Netflix recently cracked down on VPN's and now I can't watch all those shows that I used to be able to watch on their US site.

      http://mashable.com/2016/02/29/netflix-blocking-proxies-vpns…

      Example 2: Netflix's deal with Epix ended last year & suddenly thousands of film titles were removed from their catalogue. So if you wanted to watch Hunger Games instead of House of Cards then you were out of luck.

    I haven't used PowerDVD in at least 10 years

      I haven't used a disc to play music or movies in at least 10 years

      • -5

        That's the point I was trying to make. But for some reason people got butthurt.

        • -4

          Keep downvoting me. Let the butthurt flow through you.

        • +2

          @juzz88: I find your lack of butthurt disturbing…

  • Just a tip;

    I bought this couple of weeks ago and changed the currency to 'mexican pesos' and it came out at around $40AU. Paid with paypal. I dunno if it is still possible to do it but worth a try.

    There is also a free alternative called leawo player, it seems to work fine for all my (few) disks if you dont need full features it says it is installing 'trial version' but as far as I see it is the full version.
    Hope this helps someone

    EDIT: just clicked on the DEAL link and it has this at the end
    "affid=2581_0_737_41106_0_ENU&r=1"

    Seems like an affiliation link not direct link ?

  • +1

    OP you should change the link to;
    http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd-ultra/features_en…

    This looks suss, are you trying to 'earn a free copy' through click bait or what? This is your link with no mention of it being an affiliation link;
    http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd-ultra/features_en…? affid=2581_0_737_41106_0_ENU

    And looks like you might now need VPN or use something like hola if you want to get it for the cheaper price. I have no idea if they will cancel it afterwards either so up to you if you want to take the risk to try circumvent the AU price.

    • mods fixed the link.

  • PowerDVD was great up to 6.0.

    After that it became a bloated POS that wanted to do everything. It wanted to be my image viewer and CD burner also. Then I gave it the flick. Then HD became the new thing, and I gave DVD the flick altogether.
