    30% Marshall Speaker Products

    What does that mean?

    30% off?
    30% is all you pay?
You only get 30% of what you paid for???

    • Lol, pretty sure peeps know what 30% off means

      • You didn't say "30% off"

It could have meant 30% of the original price.

      • -1

Of course - however that's not what it originally said.

  • That's sexy as hell. Should I buy one?

    • I've always wanted to, and man you should see them in real life. And the sound is sweet as

      • Any impartial reviews out there?

        • Not sure, but I first laid eyes on the Stanmore speaker in Bangkok in a fancy hifi store. Then I saw her again in Apple Store and cranked it up until I was told to leave. Now the exchange rate has pushed the Apple Store price up from about $599 to $729. Gorgeous speakers. Bluetooth built in also. The dials are so smooth and metal.

Also on special that I just bought, NOCS 500 earbuds, super cheap.

For how good a deal? Officeworks has the Acton for $449. It sounds like a Marshal. If you listen, you will like.

Here's a comparison to the Stanmore - bigger, RCA, AptX and appses, 45Hz to 22kHz and 80 watts rms make for a nice little unit.

      http://wireless-speakers.specout.com/compare/1009-1088/Marsh…

      • Wow, OW is the last place I would have expected a Marshall product. I'll be watching these Actons to see if they ever go on clearance. Especially the white ones, I can finally fulfill my drug dealer persona dreams

        • Me too - I want a stack. I was almost going to be satisfied with a pair of sony srs-x11's and then I tried the marshal. Even at 61 my ears could tell the difference. Chalk and cheese…

        • @terrys: I have Bose 201s and Yamaha Amp from like 15 years ago so prob main reason I haven't bought the Marshall. Maybe I can leather up my Bose…

  • :-( No Kilburns. I am considering a pack for my car battery and inverter tho…

The B&O headphones are cheap too! But I'm curious about the "Imported, China" thing.

    H7 Black ($416.48 shipped) — https://www.eastdane.com/wireless-over-ear-headphones-bo/vp/…

    • Yeah I saw those, they are nice. Not sure about the import thing but it's an American site so maybe they are stated that the products are shipped from China instead of local USA stock.

      • I'm curious because those B&O headphones do have some counterfeits in China.
Its normal sales price on Taobao.com is roughly the same as these 30%-off ones.

        • any confirmation on these if they are legit? really keen if they are

        • @tkboi:

I totally have no idea about this. It seems like legit since it's a well-established business in the United States.

  • Do I need another speaker…Have a bose thats slowly dying. Recently bought a Sonos 5 (great little thing) and have a Phillips p9 (I think) not the best sound but is nice and portable. The Marshal sure looks sweet.

    • +5

It's all about the look. Imagine you walking down the street with this on your shoulder bluetoothing to your phone..and dragging the generator behind you..

      • Hahaha. I don't know why, but reading this cracked me up ;)

    • I also have a Sonos play 5. The Sonos slays the Marshall.

I recently added a pair of play 1s to the play 5 - a better option. It adds a lot of richness to the audio. If you were going to drop 300 on this, make it 500 and get the play 1 starter bundle (2speakers)

      • I have been looking at the play 1s. Was thinking of getting them fire the kids. They're at that age where they're listening to their own music etc.

        • A single play 1 is an OK speaker. They sound much better in stereo (but that's not exactly cheap)

The only possible complaint is that they lack punchy bass. I don't care for that now, but I did when I was a teenager.
The other thing is the play 1s are a streaming speaker only - they don't have aux in

A solo play 5 has more bass and a more rich lower end. In general though, I think stereo play 1s sound more crisp and I would choose that if it were one or the other

Another positive for the play 5 is that it DOES have an aux input

Minor gripes though. I love mine - would thoroughly recommend. Love mine

        • @sagiballs:
          Thanks mate.
Would you say a play5 is better than 2 play1s together?.

I can get a play five for $630.
So I could get them a play 5 each. Rather get something decent first up and forget about it.

          Thanks

        • @bbourizk:

          That's a tough question

So stereo play 1s have really fanstatic highs for their price. And by virtue of being able to separate the units, the stereo isolation (different things out of L and R speaker) sounds really cool.
Bass isn't it's strong point. There is a "loudness" mode which makes the bass stronger - and it's not bad per se, but it lacks that smooth fullness, if that makes sense. It will kick but it won't build up to the explosion

The play 5 had a fuller lower range but it can't match stereo play 1s for things like cymbals and high note singing (think celine dion's my heart will go on)
Play 5 has aux in - which is a plus

I don't think you'd be disappointed with either. The only thing in the Sonos system I don't rate is the playbar.

If you were filthy rich I would get a pair of play 1s with a Sonos sub. Then it would be perfect. But that's 1600 worth of kit :s

        • @bbourizk:

If I had to pick one though, it'd be a pair of play1s

Look out for the starter kit at Myer or Possibly HN. So they bundle 2 for about 525?? Ish rather than buying 2 at 300 each

As a looooong shot I recently acquired a gen1 play 5 for 270 at Myer. The clerk stacked a 40% off discount audio code with the runout price on the unit (550 I think). I didn't post the deal because … Well yeah. Low chance but doesn't hurt to ask haha

    Try before you buy

They look awesome but sound like personal opinion alert trash

Had one in my hotel room for 5 days - so you could call that a decent road test. It's loud and has (muddy) bass. Highs are non existent. Mids are soft or if you crank the treble - very disorted

You pay 99% for the name and the style

    • +1

"personal opinion alert" coming your way! Im no complete audio file but i loved the sound, so if you like the sound and are happy with it then you are happy :D

    • As a longtime audiophile and audio engineering blogger, I do not recommend this speaker in terms of its sound quality as well.

However, I think the exterior does matter, and it's one of the most important properties of a stereo. Because in the end, it's a furniture that you will have to see all day. You don't really want to put a good-sounding ugly brick in your living room, or do you?

      • What do you think for the price though? Ie for its price range, what other products could you recommend that also look stylish but sound better?

        • +3

Let alone the price, the VALUE here is real. That's OZbargain is all about, right? For a $300-ish Bluetooth speaker, it's good enough.

If we're looking at the same price range as Stanmore's MSRP or normal sales price, I would recommend B&W MM-1. Obviously these are very different speakers in every way, and they are supposed to be used in difference occasions. But hey, that's a sound quality over functionality choice.

        • @Alucardology: Great thanks! love B&W!

  • So I placed an order for a set of the Nocs NS500's. They arrived today….without the headphones in the box and with ear buds that had fluff on them and may have been previously used.
Not sure if this is indicative of East Dane but I certainly won't be buying from them again (unless DHL can confirm that the headphones were stolen during shipping).
