Hi all

This past year I've gone down the rabbit hole of building a home theatre system (newborn = not going out to the cinema), saw these on Amazon.

$701.62 for ONE speaker — You have to add quantity of 2 to checkout to see the price come up as $700 for A PAIR. Discount is applied on the checkout screen.

They seem to come up cheapest ~$1500 for a pair online, however included in a whole 5.1 set from West Coast Hifi it has been $998.

Would greatly appreciate some insight if this is good pricing and if not what are some better alternatives for a similar price range

+1 for buying second hand speakers.

      I bought a 5.1 set for $300
      Ns-f150 towers
Sw300 subwoofer (this alone sells for $300 on fb)
Plus some rears and an amp.

Speakers haven't really changed in decades, have a listen make sure nothing's crackling or distorting.

Speakers havent changed but tuning tech has. Its more complex algorithms now

if you can't wait a bit - search around Hifi forums, marketplace etc for a pair of these: https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/speakers/ns-5…

These are amazing floor standing speakers

    • Need a decent amp for these to unlock their full potential.

Hi Fi gear is all over marketplace.

I never shop retail for this stuff

700 a pair is a good price but I'm with 'the -fuzz' if you can get the Ns 555 at a good price they are way superior. I'm lucky enough to have scored a pair of Ns 777 ( seem to no longer exist) These and entire home theatre driven by Fosi P2 pre amp and V3 amp ( lots of other Fosi choices though) Fosi gear in total cost less than $250, and does a better job than the $3000 Yamaha amp they replaced. Cause I wouldn't pay $1750 to repair the Yamaha amp. Fosi gear and service I have found extraordinary.

Interested in how you can plug in all your home theatre things to two tiny amps? I did some googling but I don't get it.

You cant compare fosi with a decent high end amp.
I have an old 7ch yamaha from 2012 but i find its still more decent than the newer amps. Plus ability to biamp is a bonus. I also have 3 subs daisy chained to my setup (1 front centered and 2 back).

Funny thing is i picked it up for free on marketplace

Sounds cool but I don't need to go that hardcore. Would be interested in learning how the small amps work though!

        • This guy subs.

@ilikeit: I find multiple subs in the right placement enhances the sound experience

How to use HT with a newborn?

    • Headphones

    • NC buds lol

If you strap the baby into a bouncer and put the bouncer on the coffee table, they should be able to see and hear everything.

      • And bounce with the subs doof doof
