Plenty of stock (10+) of both 150W and 300W inverters at Dicksmith Bourke Street Melbourne.
Best price I've seen on OzB for these.
Maybe some places still have the 600W in stock (80% off!)
Good luck!

Yes, these are quite harsh stepped “modified” sine wave inverters and the units themselves fail quite often.
Much better idea to get a decent brand such as a Projector in pure sign wave, and save your valuable equipment.
tl;dr They are sh!t
they aren't shit if you use them for what they're designed for.. they are actually more efficient than pure sine so if you want to power a hair dryer or microwave a msw is perfect.. as they aren't too fussy about the waves.
They are shit because this model has a high failure rate also efficiency depends on specific design.
when arse talks about shit, I side with the arse. SME, you see.
you know they have a high failure rate how?
@storyteller:
Dick Smith staff. They are a regular returned failed item.
There can be other issues with these cheapies such as not isolating the DC thus battery, vehicle chassis, from
the 240V circuit.
Just spend the money and get a proper Australian approved unit full sine wave. They work with everything.
@storyteller: I used to dumpster dive behind a DSE and there was a few of these in the bin every week. I'd avoid.
They were a good source of parts (aluminium cases, cables with clasps, etc)
you deserve a higher level of ozb membership than most of us.
I tilt my hat at you.
@altomic:
You've earned the John Safran Badge for Investigative Journalism!
email [email protected] to arrange collection.
@blitz: Boom.
Resistive loads tend to work ok on MSWs.
I'd stick to PSWs for electronics like battery chargers, laptops etc.
I ran a Samsung LCD TV off a 300w DSE inverter. You can HEAR the squeal from the TV's power supply. I wouldn't run these inverters very long on any electronic device…
generally a rule of thumb with inverters is to double your wattage. A standard 32inch TV will use up to 150-200w. Chances are it was squealing from insufficient power
Acdc brought me here.
I got lured by DCAC.
Its a long way to the shop…
(to find no stock left.)
Highway to Dick Smith?
"Its a long way to the shop…." if you want a sausage roll
I use the 150W to power the internal pump of a massive mattress when camping. Works well if anyone is interested.
I'm thinking of bolting one of these plus a decent size battery under my dining table, so we can run laptops "trip free" for longer.
Anyone done this ? Got any tips ?
How are these Dick Smith deals still popping up? Is there new stock arriving from the warehouse or are these just newly discounted?
The stores I've been in are almost empty.
Damn, was hoping for pure sine!
