  • some very bad reviews out there. Sounds like great technology let down by low quality manufacturing.
Plus this model has been superseded

    • Buying from Myer means you get local warranty for it, which kind of deals with the defects. Takes them about a month to get it fixed and sent back to you.

But definitely agree that this model's superceded. Twice actually. I'd wait for a special on the Ds

      • Mine semi-broke just after warranty period. It won't start unless you charge it from a fully empty battery. The issue is improper size resistors on the motherboard. It really sucks - means I can only use mine once every few weeks.

        • Could you get somewhere to replace the resistors if thats the only issue? Might even be doable on your own with the right tools and a steady hand.

        • If improper size resistors were a problem, it seems unlikely it would only develop a fault this far in. More likely a bad capacitor issue if anything?

      • Probably better off with an irobot. Mine is going on 7years without fault.

  • This Samsung one looks much funkier….. and is reduced by $700!

    Edit: my bad. sold out.

Looks like something from the 80's.

Its actually a good vacuum cleaner. Had 2 of them before (for about 5 years). Just replaced them with the Botvac D80 which you can get intermittently from Amazon for around the same price (esp now with the better USD conversion). Sure, no warranty, but I have had no issues with the D80 so far and there are local repairers.
The only thing I had to do for the XV units was replace the filter every few months and the batteries every 18-24 months (from Ebay). One is still on cleaning duty at our holiday home.

    • "I really wouldn't bother with this unit. Its old and noisy (but it cleans ok). I can't believe its still available for sale."

Um, that sounds quite different to what you've said above.

      • Thats why I linked to that thread so I wouldn't have to repeat it. It is still a good vacuum but as I said it has been superseded.

Only last 1 year and a bit for me, Vision blocked issue. Bought around A$300 from Amazon. Miss the vacuum though as I only hand vacuum once a month rather than weekly.

    • Same here, vision blocked issue after 1 year or so.

At $549 regular vacuuming with a $49 vacuum cleaner never looked so good.

    • Or you can spend the time with the family or a hobby.. Either way, people spend a lot more than $550 on other junk.

keep adding to the e-waste pile

  • I got one a year or two ago. Still going well, but battery doesn't seem to last too long anymore. I wish I had more wall space for it too because it doesn't always dock itself to recharge/finish. Quite happy though.

  • I ordered my Neato VX-21 3 years ago now from Walmart in the US using Price USA freight forwarder to Melbourne and the total cost including the Neato and delivery was AUD380 all up. Myer was selling then at full RRP that time which meant it was worth the risk to me but 3 years on it's still working every weekend just fine.

  • The reviews on these are generally terrible, with many people complaining that the warranties are useless. I've given up robot vacuum cleaners, as none of them seem to last very long, and gone back to conventional, but cordless, cleaners.

  • I got one a year or two ago and it's still powering along. The only issue I have is when I turn it on, I have to let the batteries charge in full before it will do it's thing, even if it charged after the last use. I'm positive this is from always leaving it on, and over charging the batteries. Some new batteries and a rest will fix it. All things considered though, if you have a large open plan house this toy is not for you. I got my from Amazon for $350 AUD.

  • My XV-11 still going strong after nearly 4 and half years (with batteries replaced once). I have had to do some repairs along the way though.
$549 still a bit pricey though considering the age of this model and the improvements of the newer ones (to name a few, side brush, bigger dust bin, very latest model now has Li-Ion batteries, and newer ones look a bit better too)

  • I've a xv-21 which was awesome for 2 years and then the left wheel started getting stuck. Cleaned it out but it just means it goes a little longer before it gets stuck. Either need to do a full wheel disassemble or buy a replacement wheel. Until the wheel issue it had been awesome. I only needed to use the old vacuum once a month for corners

I had a stuck wheel also, opened up the wheel and gave the motor a good dose of contact cleaner and has been good since (a least 6 months I think)

  • I've had this model for a couple of years and do rate it. However, they will definitely break down at some stage. Mine is on his last legs now. I've got the bin button permanently screwed down. But now I'm getting bumper errors.

Waiting on a special for the new model and will purchase again.

  • So, of all the models and manufacturers available, what is the ideal one at the moment?

    • So, of all the models and manufacturers available, what is the ideal one at the moment?

      • the ones that cost a tenth of this
      • the ones that work on AC and require a few minutes of your precious time
      • the ones don't use batteries that need replacement after a couple of years because they can't hold a charge well
      • the ones that are far more reliable and powerful than any portable
      • the ones that let you go at it in tight corners, stairs and high locations too
      • the ones that don't get added to the e-waste pile so early because of the above
      • the ones that are so much cheaper to maintain as they age

Alternatively, a lovely maid from Asia.

None of the above have the wife approval factor. Especially the maid from asia.

Bought mine a few years ago, and it died twice.
It now, ironically, collects dust at the corner of the room.

  • Mine got a Laser error and unfixable.

If you buy it, pay for the extra warranty, because reckon you will need it.
