@KaptnKaos: thanks for the tips! Will have to think about this.
Hey Kaptn, not sure if I have this straight. Do you know if the Crown Gifts in person (Melbourne) gives the EFTPOS enabled cards? Does anyone else know if the online ones still have the eftpos logo on them? Wishing to pay some hecs/help :)
According to Jake yesterday, Crown Gifts do not issue the EFTPOS enabled cards at all (whether your order is picked up or posted). To get a hold of the EFTPOS enabled cards the only confirmed method up until now is to visit the Level 1 vending machine in person.
Cheers mate, that would've been epic!
Having the eftpos logo doesnt guarantee you can use it outside of Crown.
I have one from the star in sydney that has an eftpos logo but it declined when I tried to use it at woolworthsIf it bears the eftpos logo, it should be accepted anywhere that eftpos is utilised as a payment method.
There was one point in time where WW refused to route any debit/gift card transactions via the eftpos channel, perhaps it was because of that?
Was the card possibly expired or exhausted of funds, otherwise?

Where can I spend my gift card?
If the card has a retail brand on its front e.g. a shopping centre, casino or retail store, then it must be spent at this location.
If your card has a generic design e.g. Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy Mothers Day, then it can be redeemed anywhere in Australia where eftpos is accepted.hmm..
Yeah, I had my doubts as well when I noticed the Crown branding on my card, but now I'll be looking in the corner of the card to see what is featured there. That's probably the best explanation to follow to avoid disappointment.
Hi all. Just wanted to share my experience after I picked up my card today at Crown Melbourne. My Gift Card (ordered then picked up in person) does NOT bear the eftpos logo. Appears to be similar card to what I got last time posted in the Christmas promotion.
1) It appears DIFFERENT to the cards available for purchase through the givv kiosk (which DO bear the eftpos logo)
2) I was NOT able to use the blank gold gift card as payment at the givv kiosk to swap for an eftpos gift card
3) Choosing 'savings' at an outside retailed returns error 'invalid merchant'
4) Choosing 'credit' returns 'invalid account', and 'cheque' gave me 'account error'Looks to me like it's to spend in Crown venue itself at the participating retailers. Not crazy lucrative but still really good deal.
Yep, that was confirmed by Crown Gifts yesterday. Those cards are very good for use at Crown, if you are looking to spend that much there in the coming twelve months.
Just picked up another GIVV gift card from the Level 1 vending machine about 5 minutes ago. Can confirm, as expected, that the $500 for $400 offer is not available from the vending machine. Today's card also bears the EFTPOS logo like the one I posted on the previous page.
Still, at least I can now happily 'use' my AMEX for those purchases that don't allow AMEX or impose CC surcharges.
Can you use the Crown EFTPOS to get cash out e.g. at Wooolies? If so you're effectively getting a cash advance from your credit card with no fees…
Haven't tried that yet, will give it a go next time I'm there.
does that mean we can use EFTPOS to pay tax at post office ? limit up to $3000k ?
pretty good of thats the case.
You'll have to visit Crown in person to do that, and only buy from the machine.
Thank you OP. Bought it, $0 express post to Melbourne address.
Nice.
It wanted $10 from me for my melb address, oh well, I picked it ip in person instead.
Just checked again, free shipping for my address now. (In melb)
Does anyone know what is the lowest value giftcard you can get from the machine? Also can you buy another giftcard from the machine with the one you just bought?
$50 is the minimum preselected amount I believe, however there is also the option of entering your own amount. I haven't tried that option yet.
Also, gift cards and cash are not accepted as payment at the machine. Only EFTPOS, AMEX, MasterCard and Visa cards are accepted at the machine.
Would it accept an EFTPOS or Visa giftcard?
Can this be used at any of the luxury stores? Say monards watches?

@poop:
$20k wouldn't be risky at all, provided that:
You have a credit limit that is sufficiently accommodating;
You purchase, say, two $500 gift cards per transaction;
You are confident that you can use $20k worth of EFTPOS cards within one year of purchase;
The bill which you intend on paying can be paid using an EFTPOS card in person (as these cards cannot be used online);
You consider notifying your bank in advance of a large value purchase, hence eliminating any possibility of having your CC automatically blocked on suspicions of fraudulent use/theft; and
The machine is stocked with a sufficient number of cards.
