Morning all
Been waiting for the price to drop below 300aud delivered before I bought this
Original price is $317aud, 10% coupon for using the app for the first time brings it down to $285.99aud shipped. Insurance is $6.80 so still sneaks in under $300. I'm on mobile so haven't checked the USD price so there might be an opportunity to save another couple of $ and the cash back places might work as well but I've never used them
Cheers!

Thanks to the lovely person who edited my post to include everything I forgot! I had a 14 month old asleep on my right arm so was way too brief when trying to type left handed

Edit: Brief Specs
Snapdragon 650 (roughly ahead of the 801 in the LG G3 for example)
Adreno 510 GPU
3gb of Ram
32gb of storage
SD card support
Fingerprint reader
4000mah battery (good)
16mp camera (camera ain't that good by reports though)

      • I guess some people might, I don't what everyone does with their devices :) I have an iPhone 6S an in Melbourne CBD I can get 200Mbit on speed tests, which is overkill for a phone. I'd love it at home though :) I'm going to sell the iPhone 6S and start using one of these. I had a OnePlus One before and miss Android.

    • What you're saying is important only if you love posting speedtest results every day.
This phone supports NextG 850 Mhz, so if you have Telstra then you will ALWAYS be connected if not on Band 3 4G then on NextG.

  • I've purchased for long-term travel, so I'm hoping it'll basically be OK for that. 18 months coming up in Thailand, and looks OK for that…

Only thing that makes me hate this phone is that massive black perimeter. Why does it have to be soo big on this phone?

    • It's called a bezel, and phones with bigger bezels have advantages too. Namely their screen doesn't get cracked as easily if you drop them.

I'd buy an LG G2/3/4 series if you want a thin bezel.

      • Honestly it looks more of a cage than a bezel.

I also fail to see how a thicker bezel in this case protects a case whence covered by a layer of glass.

Probably why I prefer the meizus over the xiaomis ( even with the atrocious camera exposure)

        • The thinner the bezel, the closer to the edge the screen is thereby making it more susceptible to cracking on impact. Android Authority has shown that phones with thinner bezels cracked more easily during their drop tests.

The other disadvantage of a thinner bezel in a larger phone is the greater likelihood of accidental tapping of the screen whilst trying to grip the phone.

        • @fourleanhounds:

I think we are confusing the actual bezzel with the gap of the screen and touch matrix gap here. Just think for a minute. If I drop the phone on its side and the bezel to have contact with the ground first. Yes, a thicker bezzel will prove to be more resistant to impact. But that black gap is not the bezzel. The who'll thing is encased in glass.

Btw I don't know what that writer was thinking tbh. Accidental tapping?Ahahaa.

  • I just googled some reviews and saw this… is this the same thing and cheaper?

      Pay attention to the currency.

      • wow… you are right… i almost bought that instead… school boy error.

  • Very tempting. But I already have a G4

    • this benchmarks faster than a G4. since the resolution is only 1080p. more than enough IMO

  • Anyone have any thoughts about what is better value, Redmi Note 3 Pro or the Mi 5?

    • +3

Doesn't the Mi 5 cost more than twice as much?

    • +3

redmi note 3 pro, and redmi 3 pro, are both epic value for money. Mi5 is a bit of a waste of money (specs are great though but noone cares about specs any more). Most people would be fine with something like a redmi 3 pro to be honest

    • +1

yeh what nathan-drake said. the mi5 pro looks great (aside from lack of SD card support), but for most people who can't get in China at direct retail price, the additional middleman tax makes it ridiculous. looking at over $500USD for the Mi5PRO when its available. more than twice this deal, is it more than twice the power of a note3? no way.. that price region is beyond absurd for a grey market fone without full band support, you might as well pay a bit more for a true flagship iphone or galaxy phone.

hopefully prices calm down 2nd half of the year.

    • Thanks guys! I think I'll hit the hammer of this one :)

  • Pulled the pin too.

Just under $300 with shipping insurance, Glass screen protector and thin case.

    Thanks OP

      • Mind me asking when you placed your order. Also did you select express post or just default free shipping?

        • +2

I placed the order quite late on the 5th April using the default free shipping.

Actually the tracking number cannot be found on http://www.17track.net/en
But it can be found on http://www.laopostvte.com/Tracking and it only show info just before it's exported.

I received it by Australia Post.

        • @winner:
That makes me happy. Ordered mine on 4/4 and only has info up until it was exported also. Fingers crossed it shows up tmrw :D

        • @winner: I'm glad someone else had theirs going through Laos Post. I thought it must have been a mistake. I still don't have mine though…

  • mine came miui global 7.1 (LHOCNCL). is it safe to use or do i need to flash another rom? i noticed the apps 360 security, mi browser, opera mini and dcshare is preinstalled. will other global roms also have these preinstalled?

    • found out LHOCNCL is a vendor rom and they come with malwares and spywares

  • All in all very nice. Item posted on the 18/04 received today 28/04 (via regular shipping method). Immediately flashed it with global rom with no issues as boot loader was unlocked already!

  • Enjoy

  • Mine arrived last night finally. Vendor ROM installed so had to flash the global via Mi PC suite. Box was opened as well. Not too happy about that but the phone itself is great
