Shame it wasn't the Blu-ray. I can't buy DVD any more, it's defunct. Hell with 4k here I feel bad buying regular Blu-ray.

I only buy blu-ray for specific reasons. One reason is a blu-ray disc is manufactured with a much higher build standard, such as the far higher ability to resist scratching and finger prints and even if it does some how get a scratch it on it doesn't affect playback at all. And secondly blu-ray looks much better on a HD screen and the uncompressed master HD audio sound is way better then any thing on a DVD. My entire collection of movies/tv shoes on optical disc is all blu-ray.

And in the past i've had DVDs develop this milky distorted colour on the read side of the disc, never seen that happen to any of my blu-ray discs.

Blu-ray is way more superior in disc build quality. I will never buy a DVD again.

Yep, not going to buy 20 year old technology that is inferior in every way possible.
        Choices these days are:
        1. Buy Blu-ray at non-bargain price. (Haven't done that yet!)
        2. Wait for bargain on Blu-ray.
        3. Wait for UHD Blu-ray!
        4. If quality & price is acceptable - streaming/pure digital.

    Dvd?
    I only buy bluray

  • Yes yes, I would prefer Blu-ray too. But when the Bluray version costs more than 3x the amount of the DVD version, I'm willing to compromise.

    • +2

      I'm not.

      It's only money

      • +2

shrug each to their own. If you're not interested then this deal isn't for you, simple :)

        • +1

Sadly, you need to think about the attitudes of people here when you post, good price, but personally I'd rather save the $30 and put it to a better Blu Ray deal in the future

@Tal_Shiar: No I don't, nor does any other poster. Deals aren't posted for everyone to love - if you want to take advantage of the deal, fine. If the deal doesn't suit you or you just don't like it, fine. What isn't helpful is the pretentious garbage of "DVD is shit and fails within a day, Blurays are perfect in every way".

I prefer Bluray, and if there's a choice I'll generally buy it. In this case there's a massive difference in the price - to me, the tradeoff is therefore in favour of the DVD. If you or anyone else disagree, that's fine, but it doesn't make the deal any less valid.

@Captain Obvious: your comments and the tone don't match for some reason friend…. like i told you… try not to let it get to you and stop worrying about people's opinions, deals speak for themselves regardsless of what we write…

And you get more than 3x the amount of disc build quality out of a blu-ray. Probably last you more than 3x longer than DVD for the fact the DVD will end up with so many strathces on it while the blu-ray is happily still going along fine with few scratches and finger prints due to its designed scratch resistant and anti finger print properties thanks to TDK that designed it that way. You get what you pay for.

I will never compromise to get a DVD again over blu-ray. Blu-ray all the way no matter how cheaper a DVD may be.

      • +5

If you're careful, you don't end up with any strathces on the discs at all. Regardless, this deal isn't about the DVD v Bluray debate. If you want to discuss that, kindly take your comments to the forums. :)

      • I wish the manufacturers had chosen a better case design for DVD and Blu-ray. The Sony mini-disk and Iomega ZIP drives had the best design, you couldn't touch the recording surface, let alone scratch it. If only that had carried across to DVDs and Blu-rays. The mini-disk was around a few years before DVDs.

        • +2

Initially, Blu-ray was going to be enclosed in a cartridge/caddy, but this would have made them even more expensive. This is why the hard coating was developed.

        • +3

@Max Power: Blu-ray was meant to originally be housed in a hermetically sealed, nanocomposite chamber in a quantum locked state…only pressure from JB HiFi to keep them under the counter readily accessible by minimally trained sales staff forced the paradigm shift in final media presentation…true story! ;)

        • +1

          @StewBalls: hipster trained staff*

  • If you want Blu-ray and aren't interested in the extra-bloated versions, each movie is part of JB's Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotion. <$32 for all three movies or wait until the next 20% off.

    • And you can get 3d blurts if that's your thing (and why shouldn't it be, as it was Peter Jackson's thing)

    Netflix…

I pos'd the deal coz I ain't seeing anyone posting cheaper, and despite what the hipsters of OzB tell you, there's shitloads of people out there still using DVD, and believe it or not those people still appreciate bargains too.

Now, that being said, I wouldn't have these God-awful travesties on any media, Tolkien must be spinning in his grave fast enough to generate enough power for a large city!

    Just my $0.02

    • +1

Yeah, I just bought a projector that only does standard Def, still worth watching on when the situation calls for it

      • I still have one with a DVD player built in… :)

  • 1 left at Big-W Fairfield, if anyone want one. NSW btw.
