There is no need to use a phone line for Unwired. Their plans are very reasonable (see below). In addition, you can actually set up wireless with a router to share the plan between computers. If you exceed your download limit, there is no extra charge. Once you have used up your allowance in either the Peak or Off-Peak periods, your speed will be reduced to the throttled speed (64/64 kbps) until your next billing period. You may check your usage in the ‘My Account’ section of the website. Also, you can buy extra blocks of usage.

  • You posted the last time 2 weeks ago, but with different promotion codes. Have those codes expired?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/23563

  • yes those code was expired.

  • I delete the last post ^^ Full price for New modem is $89 + $6 shipping - $30 discount = $65.
You can choose Ethernet Modem or USB Modem

  • do they still use those ugly large modems that look like a snail?

a wireless modem that requires you to be tethered to a wall socket

    interesting concept

    • yes, and i think you can purchase a battery pack model, but yes.

      • they can be purchased from ebay cheap at times , both modems and batteries for them although batteries are rare, i bought 2 batteries for 7.50 on ebay so they are out there

also there is the pmcia card which slides into the side of most older laptops although better for people on the go like the 3g modems meant for outside mostly

    • Unwired cannot compete with 3G for mobile use. It's not intended for roaming. Their niche is getting smaller and encroached upon by 3G but they are trying to position themselves as an ISP for people who don't want to or cannot install ADSL1 (e.g. frequent change of address—students), and don't want to be locked into contracts. Unless they come up with something spectacular (they were in WiMax trials a while back), they will be doing well to just retain the customers they have. More likely they will lose them through attrition. Why else would the offpeak period be so generous as to stretch to 4 pm? Obviously most of their traffic is in the evenings

However if their offering suits you, why not? You're only out of pocket by the cost of a modem if you switch to another ISP and you can pick up one cheap on eBay if you don't have to have a new one. I'm surprised Unwired hasn't thought to throw in some starter allowance to sweeten the deal. It's not as if giving away some bandwidth costs them a lot, I'm sure they have a bit to spare these days.

  • I would rather go on a 3G broadband plan which would give me a minute possibility of switching ISPs than one of these..

    • +1

one advantage is the ethernet modem can be shared easily, whereas 3g needs a special router. 3g is much faster generally

lots of pros and cons for both depending on your position

  • i have got this modem ethernet version, the one look like the snail. anyone interested, i am happy to sell for AU$30+registered shipping, or you can pick up from me if you live in melbourne

The product is complete with the box, still in good condition. has been there a while, as i have stop using it since end of last year.

pls PM me if anyone interested. thank you

  • i never had their crappy service yet i'm sure have have two of their navini modems in my garage

i'm still not sure why unwired aren't bankrupt yet?

why don't have they have a usb modem like the real 3g people?

  • I think it is not worth to get second hand from ebay, most modem on ebay are 2 - 3 years old without warranty and battery are out of charge, Laptop same. new battery just $19. not saving a lot. and you also need to pay extra postage too.

    • There is no battery in the mains powered modems AFAIK. Many (most?) sellers offer the current model and some offer pickup. At least in one case it was going for free if pickup. And what do you need a warranty for something that's sold for $10 in good faith that it was working when last used? You just write it off if you are that unlucky.

But I'm sure people can do the sums and comparisons themselves.

  • $65 new modem include postage and 1 year warranty are better option

    • Why are you so concerned if people buy a used modem? Are you getting something if somebody uses your codes? lol!

Also if you are a student you can get it from DSE for $49 by showing student ID.

      • exactly these modems are rock solid and used to be able to used for exetel network, generally 10 dollars from ebay , ht had a special for 9.99 new they are easy to pick up

  • -2

erm i dont believe this is a bargain due to the fact it gets posted every 2-4 weeks ..

promo codes .. where are they coming from if kevin is not a rep… what benefits does he receive from getting other people to use them.

-ve vote due to repeatedly being posted, same user posting codes when not a rep
-ve vote also due to unwired being limited in service and area (this isnt at the fault of the poster)

    • sorry wrongly voted on ur comment. Anyway Unwired = bad connection + bad customer service. I experienced it once.

    • Why worry? Obviously this ISP doesn't appeal to enough people to garner more than a few votes and won't make it to the front page. I myself didn't vote either way.

Also the fact that you don't use the service and you don't like the service shouldn't be a cause for a -ve vote. Somebody else might find it a bargain, it's up to them to decide. Otherwise to be consistent you would have to vote down every thing that you wouldn't buy.

  • Kevin get referral $$$s but he doesn't mention that. My son uses unwired, rental place, infrequent use and low cost. Suitable service.

  • I just looked it up, these are referral links.

neg for not admitting its a referral code.

    • Ah bad boy, Kevin. Tut tut.

    • Each time he does it with referral links, i thought you mods may have picked up on that ?
