    Dick Smith has the AMTC Blu-ray Player for $149 over the Easter weekend too. The AMTC can be used for both Region A/B with a code, so might be a better buy if you're looking for a generic player.

    Anyone know if you can change blu-ray regions on the TCL?

  • Any good quality Multi-Regional player for this price gets a big thumbs up from me!
    However from what ive just read, MOST Blu-Ray Discs are region free anyway. Is this true?

    • Some are - and the rest are separated into generous (compared to DVD) zone. So you have Region A, B and C which covers quite a lot of countries, unlike DVDs with Region 1/2/3/4/5 which were quite specific.

      If you look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Region_codes

      Movie studios have different region coding policies. Among major U.S. studios, Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios have released all of their titles region-free. Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. have released most of their titles region-free. Lionsgate and Walt Disney Pictures have released a mix of region-free and region-coded titles. 20th Century Fox and MGM have released most of their titles region-coded.

    i wouldn't trust TCL products as far as i could throw them imo

    • You have no idea what you're talking about. TCL are a very respected brand in my books. I've owned many TCL televisions in my time, and only one broke. It was a 2.5 year old 32" plasma, and when I returned it for warranty they sent me a brand new 46" LCD Full HD TV.

      TCL = awesome.

      You can look back on other TCL bargains here, and other users have reported the same kind of thing happening.

    Scored myself a Sony BDP-S350 for $127.50 at Myer North Lakes QLD 3 days ago. It was an ex-display unit but still in mint condition. Updated the firmware and it's now BD-Live 2.0 compatible :) There was also a Samsung and a Toshiba player up for grabs (both slightly more expensive). If anyone's keen, both are hidden under the bargain bin table in front of the electronics cashier. Doubt they are still there now though.
