OCZ Trion 100 480GB $148, 960GB $315 from MSY

110

Cheap (and potentially nasty) SSD has dropped its price again since last time at MSY, back to similar price to this PLE deal a month ago.

As of performance

  • Max Read 550 MB/s
  • Max Write 530 MB/s
  • Max Random Read (4K QD32) 90,000 IOPS
  • Max Random Write (4K QD32) 54,000 IOPS

PC World Review

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Decent performance during everyday operations

Cons

  • Performance drops to hard drive levels during even modestly large data transfers
  • Only three-year warranty

  • I belive ocz offers great warrenty atm though. I think I read if you register it they will ship the replacement before you send back broken one.

Hmm I couldnt find the article to link, so take with a grain of salt.

    • +2

I did hear that their process have improved over the last 2 years. However too many people have been burnt by their earlier products and many would automatically associate OCZ = dodgy SSD. Performance wise it's also lacking though.

        • I am not sure if that link applies for advance warranty in Australia. I tried to read full detail and could not find a mention that advance warranty will be provided to Australian OCZ customers.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

        • @saty1296: "OCZ ShieldPlus is available in USA, Canada, European Union, Russia and these countries: " and the drop down box lists Australia.

      • I had an old 64GB OCZ Petrol drive that lasted a solid 3 and a half years, not sure if that's decent but it was cheap!

      • +1

Yep so tempted to get the 480GB but with three from three dead OCZ's, I wouldn't piss them if they were on fire. So far no issues with Samsung or Intel. One was DOA that was caught up the OCZ ownership change so I basically took that hit as no warranty WTF!

      • The very popular (in their day) Vertex 2 & 3 were pretty unreliable, had a 120GB V2 die after 1yr, but also have a 60GB V2 still working although it runs pretty hot and needs good ventilation.

  • For whatever reason the 960GB drive hits some good numbers in the "real world" testing at Storage Review - much better than the 480G. The result seems anomalous to me but putting it out there for anyone interested in the 960GB version of the Trion 100.
