I know it not the best SSD around, but from what I can see through my Sunday morning blurry eyes 🍷 , it's still a great price.

The 200 tho is a real, real bad drive. It's the first SSD released in several years you need to look out for. Previously almost any SSD was good for a couple of years.
Back to the old days of 'avoid the lemon' stuff, like when they first came out.

Don't the reviews only say it's bad for the original price? It's $84 for 240GB now so I think those reviews aren't exactly accurate anymore.

    • I own 5 of the bx200 ……… as a basic ssd without needing onboard encryption they work fine …….. if you need encryption go with the MX200
The bad write ups are due to the smaller drives have a different nand, and with the controller chip they use they are a bit slow, yes speed is model specific due to nand used and bus width.

Mine are all 500GB, which means they have the larger nand chips and work fine.

It's tricky to compare brands and range, need to also focus on model and size as the size of the nand chips used determine bus width vary and hence throughput.

This will become less of a problem as 250GB drives move off the radar and just leave 500gb and 1TB SSD as more mainstream, and manufacturers use larger chips ….

at this price you can run 2 as raid incase you are worried

  • I agree - it's a great price on today's market. What these drives were in the past may or may not apply now, but how much do we value the data we place on a drive should help us make a decision here. harnwhisperer has prompted me to investigate this brand further - thanks for that.

    • The brand itself is great, the BX100 was very nearly the same performance as a Samsung 850 Evo, and was often cheaper.
But with this one, they made a big mistake.

  • this or the PNY posted previously? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/239380)

hopefully the PNY as i bought it yesterday..

i usually don't care about performance but i'll put it this way, the bx200 is crucials v300 except it was never decent in the first place XD

  • so this drive's a bit of a nugget i guess?
