Panasonic Lumix TZ70 $259 plus postage or free pickup @ 2ndsworld

This is a 2015 model and I have been looking for a good price from an Australian Stockist for one of these for many months.
Yes this is 12.1megapixel the megapixels were deliberately lowered on the 2015 model from the previous 18.1mp model of 2014 to provide better image quality in low light.

Here is a great video of what this camera can do and the amazing quality.

Camera Sky has these in the low $300s but I believe they charge a lot for postage and ship from overseas I don't trust that company after many bad reviews and 2ndsworld is based in Australia and has fairly good reviews.

  • almost buy but then read amazon review:

    3 Battery life is poor. If you switch on all the helpful features such as Intelligent Auto Plus you will be lucky to get 65-70 shots on one charge. This means that you must carry a spare battery with you. As the battery must be charged in camera via the supplied USB lead this can be inconvenient and I suspect that I shall have to purchase a stand alone charger.;

    • I'd expect rapid battery use, given the feature set, but given the ~$100 reduction on the Good Guys clearance price, you could throw a spare genuine battery in the mix for the $85 or so it appears to go for. I'm a bit more quibbly as they state a six month warranty rather than the 12 months offered on factory seconds, and no extended warranty available…

    • Most of the Amazon reviews are positive that could just be an unlucky customer with a bad battery.

      I have this camera. Battery life is excellent, about the same as other cameras I have. My only disappointment about this camera is the 12mp sensor.

    For the price, I'd just buy a Canon EOS M, the first generation Mirrorless…

    • +3

      but wouldnt be a small 30x zoom camera.

      • -3

        30x zoom will result in blurry shot at that focal length, even image stabilization won't help it. The low light performance of APS-C will be way better than any compact, no?

        • You're comparing different types of cameras. How much would an Eos M 30x zoom equivalent lens cost?

          @ONSALE:
          exactly, cant compare.

      The eos m is an interchangeable lens camera from 2012 and takes up a lot more room it also doesn't have a viewfinder.

      Also I don't think you would get an eos m with any warranty under $300 and with any more than 55mm zoom with it.

  • remember it was a faulty camera that has been fixed/refurbished, only 6 months warranty and $14.30 delivery.

    and the new TZ80 has gone back to 18MP sensor.

    • Faulty camera it says on the site "A demonstration model, factory reworked or factory refurbished product" So it could be a demo model, just change of mind refurbished or as you say faulty and fixed. But not definitely a faulty camera as you say.

      Here are some used sale prices on ebay

      • comment was more to say its not new or with new warranty.
        its a nice camera, hada play in a camera store a while back when looking at compacts (ended up with FT6 for ruggedness/waterproof)

    • +1

      Yes the TZ80 has gone back to 18MP and it also costs over $500
      Also your quote of $14.70 delivery is not universal. Its $9 postage to 2000 postcode Sydney for instance.
      Often factory refurbished products are better and less likely to have any problems as they have been thoroughly checked over. I'm writing this using a refurbished laptop.

      • yep, I am using a refurb Dell, but it also came with the same as new warranty.

        i did plus vote the deal from the start .
        I mentioned refurb as it wasnt in the description when I first voted.

    • +1

      Yes 12 months Warranty would be a lot better than the six they give but at least its still cheaper than the used prices on Ebay which have sold and have no warranty.

    I have had a previous model (TZ40) for 3 years. It is a fantastic, compact pocket sized camera, great for traveling, and recommend it highly. This is a good price but 'Refurbished' is always a little off putting, so I don't think I'll be upgrading right now.

    • I have a tz40 a good camera but it has been quirky from day dot. It used to randomly take photos in your hand without the shutter button pressed. It now just freezes up every 3 shots and has to have the battery removed and reset and turned on a off 10 times before it works again. I've had two lumixs that have been a bit quirky. I wouldnt buy a refurb one. The tz40 is 20 months old so out of warranty. I'm wondering if I should try on the good guys for acl… It's now sitting in the drawer of shame. Took some good shots with it.

    I have the previous model, the TZ60, and wish I had bought this one. Its an excellent little camera. I don't much like 18Mp on a 1/2.33 sensor, but 12Mp is a good balance. They keep getting the TZ70 into stock at 2nds world, and I may yet cave in and buy. I bought an FZ1000 refurb from them a few months back and have no issues with the camera at all. I currently have an LX100 on a truck somewhere (Auspost stuffed the delivery and sent it somewhere else… next time I'll take the courier option).
