I went for the 7.5kg Samsung for $529 delivered with the bonus $200 RRP Canningvale 5 Piece Towel Set (promo ended Monday):

A friend now needs a new front loader…is there much difference between the Samsung and the Fisher & Paykel for the extra $140?

    • Samsung washers used to catch on fire. They issued a massive recall a little while back cos a lot of houses were catching on fire due to it.

      • They were top loaders though right?

Yes, it only affected top loaders.
I just recently bought a Samsung front loader, and have used one previously for years.
It does what it is supposed to do, but somehow I think the Fisher & Parkel is better.
          Is the $140 difference justifiable?
I think so as it does have Hot and cold inlets, whereas the Samsung I own is cold inlet only.

Isn't F&P now really just Haier a Chinese company from memory.

  • I have a small bathroom, need a compact washing machine.

Can anyone recommend a good compact washing machine?
Maybe one that is 55cm or 50cm in width and depth?

    • Are you only looking at front loaders?

      • Top loaders actually.

  • Just purchased a new washing machine from this sale. On the advice from The Good Guys Salesmen I went with LG. Apparently LG have direct drive motors compared to Bosch machines which are chain/belt driven. Not sure about Fisher & Paykel or Samsung. Link to the one I purchased below:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Lg-7kg-Front-Load-Washing-Mac…

    • A washing machine repair man I spoke to said he isn't a fan of the technology. The main reason being the motor is directly connected to the drum via a shaft, which means the bearing has to carry the full weight of the drum. The drums are also not quite as deep as the motor has to be mounted on the back.

There's a reason why the European brands haven't gone down this path.

  • I have this machine and fwiw I think it's great. I got it for a similar price from tgg recently. It's so quiet and does what is supposed to really well. It is very heavy though!
