Reviews:

  • Absolutely awesome review by the inimitable Ming Thein: " the manual focus action is nicely damped and perfectly weighted – they certainly got the feel right with this lens" and just look at his amazing photos….holy crap, he is awesome with this lens! (Review is for Nikon and Canon Mount, but this deal is for Canon mount only [perfect for EOS])

  • Steve Huff rocks too, but his review was for a Nikon mount (same product in every other way, of course)…."as for rendering and sharpness, it is excellent. The 28 2.8 is light, small and looks great on the camera. It is super easy to manually focus and because it is a wide-angle with an f/2.8 aperture, this makes it easier to nail focus than the 58 1.4. Either way…fantastic, especially for the money."

CONS
    No Cons

    No autofocus, no image stabiliser… Ok, these are not cons…

    • Haha, yes :) it's not for pixel peeps or the average snapper, that's for sure. It's favoured by people who want the best artistic shots, not the fastest shots. That reference to there not being any "Cons" to this lens is actually a direct quote from actual customer reviews on B&H, (for those who may not know yet, B&H are the benchmark of photographic pro gear pricing worldwide) And I might add, B&H sell the same lens for about $150 more than this deal!

      • How does this lens make the photos more artistic?

        • Hi :) Pretty good discussion here or maybe read these reviews from people who know more than both of us!

    • From the review the OP posted:
      "The Voigtlander is a tiny slip of a lens that’s capable of excellent results in the center, and decent results at the edges – these optical characteristics suggest it would serve as a good documentary lens (there is some distortion of straight lines which rules it out for architecture), but moreover an option where you a) need something light and small, and b) are unlikely to run out of light – though relatively low light work is still possible thanks to the high-ISO abilities of the current batch of full frame cameras. In short: this is a great lightweight travel lens, especially if paired with something a bit longer – perhaps the 40/2 or 45/2.8P. Now, if only somebody would make a decent focusing screen for the D600"

      So distortion and no good for architecture either (though I call BS to that as you can usually correct in post).

      This review states chromatic aberration can be an issue, but that it's very sharp.
      https://www.ephotozine.com/article/voigtlander-28mm-f-2-8-co…

      No lens is perfect, but if you want AF the ePhotozine review suggests that if you don't mind slightly larger and a little less rugged, you can get Canon's own 28 mm lens cheaper and it has AF.

    BRING BACK THE GAME DEALS!!!!! xD

      Yeah. I'm about to unsubscribe to sellingoutsoon posts.

    Pros:
    * Rugged (7)

    * Strong construction (7)

* Durable (5)

* Consistent output (4)

* Easily interchangeable (4)

    The first 3 are basically synonyms.
    The last 2 are not really pros because all lenses are consistent and easily interchangeable.

    Sellingoutsoon needs to give the copy writer a pay rise for selling the shit out of this lens. I feel like I'm watching a TV infomercial.

    • +1

      I like that you pointed that out although regarding the copy writer remark: the review (pros and cons) are taken from B&H.

      • Yes I can confirm, as @qwerks says (and as mentioned earlier we didn't write what you've quoted. B&H photo did but technically, they didn't either…..their customers did. There are 7 reviews which will give you a good overview of what actual buyers said. These reviews are mainly in the USA, but it's the same lens made by Voigtlander, Japan. Ours is official product, with Australian warranty, twice the warranty period of B&Hl, and around $150 cheaper too. Plus you get a $50 store credit! …now that's selling the sh** out of something :)

          Sell me this pen…

        • @damfrog: Haha, you ever been in a job interview like that?

  • +1

    Upvoted for the well-researched post with lots of useful information. It seems like quite a niche product, but definitely sounds like a good deal if you're after something like this.

    • Thanks :) yes, well we sold quite a few last time but expected we'd never see this gorgeous lens again….yet lo and behold, here we are! It's getting very hard to find at a good price, and is so well received by the best photo bloggers out there, and industry pundits alike. So we were amazed to be able to secure enough to offer on OzBargain (OzBargain has minimum required qtys for sellers), and even more stoked to offer such a low price, even lower than last time. So we've made this an OzBargain exclusive, in support of the community that's supported so many of our unique deals.

      Thanks OzBargain!
