I got an email last night from eBay TGG saying they discounted the HD9220/50 Airfryer from $229 to $199. After the code CTECHIE, it comes to $159.2 for C&C which is a good bargain.
Email says there are about 200 left still.

That's true, but when I checked yesterday afternoon it was 229, luckily I didn't buy at that price.
Had one of these, not very good just air fry by itself, best to add some oil for good taste. It's a good deal anyway.
I did worried if it will make food dry, but the review is about 4.5 out of 5, so I will have a go.;-)
I've never added any oil to mine.
If we make our own large cut chips from raw spuds, we do add a tablespoon of olive or canola oil to a plastic bag with the chips in and toss them around in the bag to cover all the chips lightly in that oil. We do not put any oil in the air fryer at all. And, We do not add oil to frozen oven bake products as they mostly have oil added for oven baking anyway.
That's fair. I always use frozen stuff, that I guess is pre-oiled.
I picked this up from GG on the second day of this sale, and it was already $199 then, so unless they have put the price up after this "CTECHIE" sale started, then dropped it again?
BTW, we are very happy with this air fryer, very good at what it is meant to do, limits would be the amount of food that you can cook at once, but this is just for a couple in our case, and it works out fine for us.Thanks.Looking forward to pick up mine tomorrow :-)
You may want to consider also picking one of these inserts up for your fryer from GG at the same time: (NEW Philips HD9904/00 Double Layer for Standard Size Airfryer) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121500238962?_trksid=p2060353.m27… We did :-) and with the discount it is around $20, but it allows you to have other items in the fryer at the same time without all the contents sitting on one another. As most people say, great for oven ready or home made chips, but we find it great with all our frozen bread crumbed fish and chicken pieces too. Have not tried an air fried fillet steak yet.
Good buy! Thanks.
From what I've been told you are better off with the XL version. That's $379 less 20% which makes for a better buy also.
apologies for the ignorance, but do the XL have double the capacity though as it is roughly double the price of the standard once you factor in the discounts ie. $159 vs $303. Aside from the bigger capacity, are there any other additional smarts on the XL that the standard doesnt have?
I don't know why they call these a "fryer". They're really a mini fan forced oven with fast fans. Definitely have their place, especially if you are renting and can't replace an existing crappy oven, and good for one or two people. But for a family who owns their own home, they're probably better off putting that money into upgrading the oven than spending on the latest craze. Obviously $160 isn't going to get you much of an oven though so if that's all you can spend…
Im not sure why your negged as i sort of agree with you. I treat mine also like a mini oven. I use it more than my main oven (for items that fit) as it gets to temperature extremely quickly, uses less power and doesn't heat the house up.
I got negged because Ozbargain has as man bullies as decent folk.
Agree with the bit about these things not being a frying machine as such. Yes they are essentially a little fan-forced oven. Don't agree with spending the money on 'upgrading' a real oven to something more fancy in lieu of having one of these Phillips Air Fryers. The big thing with these air Fryers is that you don't have to heat up such a huge space like you would with a real oven. If I needed to cook something small like two meat pies I use the air fryer. They will be done before my real oven has even warmed up!
I was tossing around this and XL , finally bought small one. The basket size of XL is 22x22x8cm, the Viva is 19x19x8cm, can't really said it is a big different with the size. But XL is 2100W while Viva is 1425W. So XL cooks faster.
So its basically the 2016 version of a flavourwave? That thing served me well for years, Renting with no oven
i have got one and found them really hard to wash clean. burnt food stuck on the basket. need to soak with a full load of hot water.
I bought the xl. So much faster then a normal oven. For example if the kids what chicken nuggets it takes 10 minutes to preheat my oven and then 18 minutes of cooking time. The airfryer, it's preheated and cooked within 10 minutes.
10 minutes? Aw, but I want them now!
funny seeing this stuff on sale (and people willing to buy it!) - whenever an Italian tries to sell you "fried air" it idiomatically means they want to rip you off or sell you "hot air" :D
I doubt it was 229 ever. If you see history of 600 odd sold they were sold for 199 or 179.
