    oh what a feeling… TAYOGA

dun dun dun… music to our ears

    • YOGA-ARSE?

      • +1

        Tight Arse YOGA?

        • +2

I have this disturbing image of TA's butt in tight yoga pants now. Thanks?

      • Downward prices

  • -5

    Massive savings!

    • That's what she said…. well to the Massive part anyway ;)

  • website down?

    • Should be back now.

  • Can't add to cart, "now in maintenance mode".

  • 3 x USB 3.0
    Mini DisplayPort™
    HDMI
    Onelink+ connector
    4-in-1 Card Reader
    Combo audio/microphone jack
    Security keyhole
Note: Build your own with USB 3.0 Ethernet dongle, or purchase with a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter (4X90E51405). Otherwise, use Ethernet (RJ45) port via optional OneLink Dock / Universal Port Replicators.

So no network port as default?

    • +3

Probably a design point to allow for thinner base

    • +2

Yep. Quite standard on the latest tablet-style laptops and ultrabooks. They take up too much space.

      • +1
        • +1

I'm after one of these types of dongles. Do you know whether that's a quality one? Some of them are rubbish.

        • @noz:
Of the specs are accurate, that should be more than what an average home user needs.

        • +1

          @Tcm9669:
Thanks but I'm not talking about the specs, I'm talking about the quality and reliability.

      • +4

Seems strange to take away the Ethernet port on a business laptop.

  • +2

Can u add a graphic card?… would be good if the code worked off the 2099$ one with the graphic card

  • +3

This is supposed to have a Geforce 940

    • +2

nope.. they sell it for 2099 but the discount code doesn't apply to that one.. not sure why

      • Perhaps because it's a different model?

  • +1

Interested to see why there's no 940M.

    • +2

      Same.
Is it really that good without dedicated graphics?

    • I guess that's why it's on sale. If you didn't want dedicated graphics, you would buy the thinner/lighter X1 Yoga.

      • X1 Yoga with OLED screen will be interesting too, when it joins the product range.

  • Can I use my own SSD?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

You can also change the m.2 ssd but it needs to be a 42mm m.2. Samsung 950 sadly won't work as its too big. Most people throw a transcend m.2 in.

This let's you run the 2.5 inch Hdd too for extra storage.

  • +1

Bit of an ugly unit and too heavy. How about deals on the Yoga 700 or 900, that would be awesome.

  • Review from last year claims rrp of $1400. Still, pretty good price if you want a touchscreen laptop, albeit a heavy one

    • +1

The version in that review included the graphics card and 256gb ssd

  • The TAYOGA coupon code isn't working for me. In my cart I've pasted it into the eCoupon field and clicked the Apply button but nothing happens - error shown: "Coupon code is not valid for the current cart. Please input a valid one.". I'm using the latest Chrome on OS X and entering from the Cashrewards site link.

      • Thanks TA. Tried again and it worked this time. Same cart, same everything. Now asking myself if I should pull the trigger or wait for something with a better gfx card. I fly out in a month so will get the GST back too.

        • Spend about $300 more and you'll have a decent portable gaming or video editing machine

  • +8

Is this really a $1900 laptop, doesn't appear to have the specs of one. and for a yoga 460 the rrp is close to the yoga 900 which is meant to be their premium range.
BTW dont get me wrong, the price discounted is great, the RRP just seems really off

    • +1

It's a lenovo. At work they used to give us lenovo machines. Specs are same as my $750 laptop, but the lenovo one would cost $2000. But the build quality of lenovo vs the cheap plastic… And bashing it around from one job to the other and not even a scratch… My Asus would have probably been cracked all over..

Mind you, this was not for the yoga one..

      • much of a muchness really - its all luck of the draw.

ive had dell/asus laptops that have lasted almost 10 years. Friends have had Lenovo laptops last less.

Depends on how well u take care of it and also luck that the parts u received go the distance

  • Hrm, this seems to be exactly what I'm looking for as an alternative to the surface. But there haven't been a lot of reviews for this yet, and it has been 'just released' so I'm a bit apprehensive. Will wait to see a few more reviews come out for this as I'm concerned about the battery life, the functionality of the pen, and the software.

Just wondering, are we able to upgrade to an SSD for another $50 as the per the website and discount ($988+$50)?

    • I tried and it worked

    • +2

Seems to be a flat $911 discount - I tried with an upgraded screen.

      • Yeah, I went through the eCoupon part and you're right. Which is nice, since it won't be locked to this configuration.

    • Why don't you want a Surface?

      • +2

I want one, but I think they're too expensive for now given the specs. Plus, I've heard the SP4 and surface book still has a few issues after the last update.

        • +2

I bought a thinkpad yoga first and returned it for a surface pro 4 and i haven't regretted that choice a single time.
Screen on sp4 is way better (resolution and aspect ratio) and it's so much more flexible that I wouldn't go back, although I loved the yogas keyboard and touchpad which is quite important for me too…

        • I purchased the SP4 core M first and straight away had problems with the touch screen not responding randomly. Had to reboot it every few hours. Couldn't find a fix so I returned it faulty after 3 days and tried the i5 version. So far no issues and I really love the machine. I understand there are still a lot of people suffering issues though that are not in a position to return it.

  • +1

tried and received 911 discount on the order. you can add SSD for extra and code still works

  • Got one, Thanks.

  • For that kind of money I would point to Dell's Outlet store and say go buy an XPS 13 etc(if you don't mind having no touchscreen).

  • +2

    So it weighs around 2kg?

But with Ssd that should fall?

Seems too heavy, but does the competition give same specs with half the weight at the $1k mark?

I am just wondering if I should return my Dell insprion from the recent ebay deal, that does weigh 1.6kg so no huge issue but its 13.3" and a Ssd already at under $700

  • Are these compatible with Windows 7. Does this has Windows 7 drivers?

    • Yes. Drivers are here. - select Windows 7 from the dropdown.

quick edit: if you don't have an unusued Windows 7 license to use, get the Windows 10 Pro license and you can use any Windows 7 Pro product key to do a Windows 7 downgrade. You will need to call and explain yourself to the activationbot's human minder.

      • Thanks

        I have msdn subscription.i just don't like win 10

  • +1

$1000 seems about right for the specs. Heavy and you can buy other 2-in-1s for less. Advantage is an i5 but no dedicated graphics. Meh, paying for brand.

  • I think it only has one memory slot. But the 16GB memory is $250 more…

  • Which is the better notebook/deal,
This (Yoga 420), or the previous deal Thinkpad E460?
    See E460 deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/236138

    • +1

The other by specs and price.this is a good price for the touch screen and tablet functionality

      • +1

If you have to choose which one would you pick?

        • +1

The cheaper one for the graphics. But you should know that the more powerful the graphics card and processor, the greater the battery usage is. So think about whether or not you need 10 hour battery. Touch screen on windows is really crummy compared to Android and iOS, so I wouldn't get this just for the touch screen

        • I will be using this as a desktop replacement and will hook it up to an external monitor.
General usage: Browsing the net, Photo Editing, Music listening, Video watching, Streaming things to TV/Media/Music Device, Device management (updating software and uploading/downloading things to/off a device). Will not be playing games on it.

Not sure I need the graphic card.

With the yoga, notebookcheck did a review and mention about case breakage issue near the pen port - but not what are the chances of this happening in real life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADzwg5WCWcE (At 13:08)

One of the thing I dislike about the E460 is the lack of keyboard backlit illumination, and that the capslock key has no light/visual indicator.

  • Great deal more laptop deals :)

  • I just ordered the Toshiba Kira! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238838

Thinking if I should return the Toshiba and get this one? (arranged to pick up the Toshiba from Bing Lee tomorrow)

most important things for me: battery life, weight, processor and looks

I also like the pen that comes with the Lenovo, but wonder if I'll ever use it?

So if battery life is similar I just wonder if the newer processor is worth the extra weight (~63% heavier)
also the tablet mode is not too important for me…

    • Well, the Toshiba weighs half of what the Lenovo does. It also looks 10x better, as it's sleek and thin.

      • after reading all the comments, I'll keep the Kira

extra weight, ugliness and the fact that I probably won't use the tablet function much makes the newer processor (that's only a slight bump up) not worth changing from Kira to Yoga

        Thank ozbargain community :D

edit: going to pick up the Kira now from Bing Lee!

    • Was about to buy the Toshiba Kira from Bing Lee as well. Code will expire later. I mainly wanted to use it for travelling and generally bringing it around with me. Weights a big factor. And whilst I have not seen this particular Lenovo model, the fact that it's half the weight makes the Kira the one for me (and my use case).

      Great deals though

    • That Kira has the previous-gen processor, which is probably why it's discounted. (Only mentioning this because it's one of your "important things"!)

      • Got that bit. Think this is better for business use. But for travelling and personal use, I'd go with the Kira. Especially for travelling. Wouldnt want to carry this around all the time.

  • +1

Great deal TA, but I can't use a laptop with integrated graphics. Any chance the other variant with the 940m dedicated card could see the same love from Lenovo?

    • +3

I would impulse buy if it was the 940m variant with the same discount. Pity (luckily?) it's not included.

  • Hmm, very tempted at this price. Been quite keen on the Yoga's since I started reading about them, and 1200 for a QHD panel is quite good (have my own SSD and ram).

Not sure if I should hold out for the OLED X1 Yoga, but can't see that being under 3k tbh

  • How does this compare to the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2in1? I am talking about the one which is $960 after discount at Dell eBay store. I know that comes with a 256GB SSD but I can always buy that. I am more interested in the quality. Thank you.

  • Had a problem with adding coupon, had too logout of my Lenovo account, maybe becouse i have a Education account?

  • 14" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, anti-glare, 10-point Multi-Touch
    14" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, glare, 10-point Multi-Touch
    14" WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS, glare, 10-point Multi-Touch

Why is anti glare screen below glare screen? Isn't anti-glare better? Is WQHD worth the upgrade?

    • +1

Why is antiglare better? I think it's completely subjective, I personally find antiglare annoying because of the fuzzy text and it doesn't actually take away much glare.

  • Great deal so tempted by this. Stylus support makes this a great alternative to the surface pro

  • +2

Price seems good, but I think the business laptops look ugly.

  • How does this compare to the Dell 15 7000 for $1k (CTECHIE)? - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-Series-2-in…

Has 256GB SSD and 15.6", but otherwise comparable?

    • +2

Too me the Thinkpad looks like a much better thought out computer, sorry for my bad grammar and spelling English is my first language, lol

      WIFI
      Dell = Intel®3165AC http://ark.intel.com/products/75442/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless…
      Thinkpad = Wireless-AC 8260 http://ark.intel.com/products/86068/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless…
So the thinkpad wins with wifi speed for it has duel streams, people overlook this and think all wifi is the same :)

      Weight
      Dell = 2.17 Kg
      Thinkpad = 1.8kg

      Battrie
      Dell = 43 WHr, 3-Cell Battery
      Thinkpad = 3-cell (53Wh)

Dell - HDMI 1.4a, USB 3.0 (1), USB 2.0 (2), Kensington lock slot, Media Card (SD, SDHC, SDXC), 10/100 RJ-45 Ethernet network, (LAN PORT BUT only one USB3 port)
thinkPAd - 3 x USB 3.0 ,Mini DisplayPort™, HDMI ,Onelink+ connector, 4-in-1 Card Reader, Combo audio/microphone jack, Security keyhole, (MINI display port NO LAN PORT but more USB3 ports)

The keyboard on the thinkpad looks very smart, https://youtu.be/LsaRv8g8zFQ?t=472

Things i am unsure about is the speaker locations on both, both i bet will sound bad.

      • +1

Have you owned a Lenovo before. Everywhere I read people are saying service is horrible. Thoughts?

        • The Internet was secretly only created to bitch and moan, the reviews dont give a very real indications of the whole picture.

I think i had a thinkpad maybe 6years ago as a work machine, no problem.

To add my thoughts yes there probable going to be painful to deal with, but the laptop looks to have a very modular design, so replacement of parts should not be that hard.

If you have problem just start sending emails and complain to the ACCC
          http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees/…

        • +1

What will the ACCC do? What can they do? I've tried to use the ACCC; they can't actually do anything.

I take everyone's experience seriously and I avoid bad business. It has happened to me enough times - I learn from my experience. Having to deal with bad business is frustrating, time consuming, stressful, and often ineffective. It is much easier to avoid bad business and support good business. Reading these stories is enough for me to AVOID Lenovo and breathe a sigh of relief that I didn't buy something from them - it isn't worth the stress and hastle if something goes wrong. I appreciate the heads up.

I've had a HDD start to lose clusters on my dell laptop. Dell were good and prompt and paid for return postage etc; still a hastle but good business and I'd recommend them.

The internet gives us power :) Now we can communicate our good or bad experiences. It's bad for bad business and good for good business. I've research lots of stuff (cameras, lenses, mountain bikes, businesses) and it is pretty easy to find out what is good, or what is bad.

        • +1

In short, bad service, good device.

I bought from Lenovo before. And yes, I kept the stuff I bought from them right through to today.

Used to be pretty good, in recent time (going back at least 5 years back when they are transitioning from IBM to Lenovo) they have been getting progressively worse - if my recent experience of them were to be believed.

I tried calling them recently, pretty sure their telephone system is broken, for 3 days straight I can't get to the after sales and support department (option 2 and 3) Everytime telling me they are closed even though it is still business hour, or if it went through, just went silent, or even alarming beeping noise. Finally got through by selecting option 1 (sales) and the person there put me through to the right department. I last dealt with them 2-3 years back. Apart from forgetting to reply/late-follow up (common across companies, even apple). I don't remember experiencing something like this before.

The thing is there isn't much good windows notebook these days. So that is why I look to Thinkpad. I think they have the best combination of solid hardware (and amazingly modular design!) and clean software install. When they have special price like this, they are worth the hassle, even with the service issue and the like (it is not that bad, and they have heaps of alternative channel on facebook or twitter, even whirlpool and other notebook forum, direct email, etc. that you can contact).

In term of software support, Lenovo issues regular update on their software and firmware. I found them to be pretty good in this regards, though on some instance there are bugs that never get squashed. I remember my wifi card needs to be forced to not go to sleep, otherwise if the wifi is idle, it might not reconnect, and I need to restart the notebook. That never get fixed. So little things like that. (My worse experience with these kind of things is with HP - big bugs that interfere with the functionality of the notebook, but they just suddenly stop issuing updates, leaving the device crippled with major flaw)

They have one of the most seamless software install experience. So if you found yourself doing a clean install, you don't even need to have recovery partition/disk. Just clean install and download thinkvantage system update, and it will download all the driver and software that is relevant to your device. Easy. (Sony/VAIO is really bad with driver, not sure about their more recent model, not that it matter since they already went under)

These days, I rely on a Mac/Apple for my go to machine.

        • @ahoihoi:

Nice considered review and from a different angle. Enough to make me reconsider :)

  • tempting to update a computer as son will turn teen soon - want to have a dedicated computer to work and study at home. He says he wants to learn how to write apps. Would like to hook to a bigger display. Currently uses iPads, slow laptops, surface 2.
    Is this suitable?
ie works like a full functional computer, can connect to led monitor, gaming….any constructive suggestion appreciated.

    • +1

Pretty much any Windows laptop nowadays can be a full functional computer, and can connect to led monitor. Gaming on the other hand… wouldn't be good with this one.

  • Able for 4K video output?

    • should do at 30fps.
      No mention of HDMI2

  • wont it be better to get surface pro? price not that different

  • +1

If anyone gets a "coupon not valid for this cart" message with the 256GB SSD selected, edit your cart to select the 1Tb HDD or smaller SSD instead and then try the coupon again. Once the coupon is applied you can then re-edit your cart to upgrade to the 256GB SSD and check-out with the $911 discount.

  • Nice deal and looks like a nice screen for a notebook PC.
    Pity I don't need another notebook :(

  • Pretty good deal.
I start a new job in a couple of weeks and ive sent it through to my boss, he is ordering it. Better to ensure this at a good price than be given a hand me down.

  • Does the touchpad/trackpad have clickable buttons at the bottom? I used a Lenovo once with them only at the top and it was really annoying to touch them without touching the pad at the same time…

    • The buttons at the top are for the trackpoint (nipple), for the touchpad the whole thing is a button, much like on Macs and everything else these days.

      • Do you know if it physically clicks when pressed at the bottom like traditional touchpads?
