  • ouch, the pain. Paid $295 a few months back. Oh well, got mine first I s'pose.

  • Good price point! It was $399 during Valentine special

    • +1

      That was AU stock.

  • This is one of those items that doesn't need a discount to sell

  • 512GB out of stock, that was quick lol

    • Someone grabs all 4 remaining sticks.

  • +2

was prob only 1 in stock

  • Thanks you "a***v (127)" For saving me another $363 when you bought the last 4 available one!!!

    • there are heaps more in stock, they always go over their quota. its an ebay-thing…

  • Does anybody know if Samsung Australia will provide warranty for these Hong Kong sourced SSDs?

    • +1

From my understanding, Samsung SSDs are warrantied in the country of purchase so no but Kogan should be able to offer their own warranty.

      • +1

They should, but given it's Kogan HK Limited you're not protected under Australian consumer law, so you get what warranty they say you get as opposed to the 'reasonable period' under Australian law.

        • +3

I had the "last" 512GB SSD in my cart ready for payment, but rapoot6's reply stopped me in my track. I know SSD failure rate is low, but I had a dodgy SanDisk Extreme SSD replaced for free 4 months before the end of its 3-year warranty. This is why I am not going to trade away 4 years worth of manufacturer warranty to save $90.

Thank you rapoot6 and Bargs for your replies at this time of night, and thanks O O for keeping an eye on Kogan stock level.

Samsung Australia SSD warranty, Part I, Section III B

Except where an International Product Warranty has been provided with your Samsung product, warranty service will only be provided in the specific country where the Samsung product was originally purchased. For example, if you have purchased the Samsung product within Australia, warranty service will be limited to Australia only.

Kogan Hong Kong general warranty, Section 1 a

Kogan HK agree to repair or replace the KHK Product … at its own cost, … during the Standard Warranty period of 12 months

        • Could you not argue that it's covered by ACL as you are purchasing from Kogan which is an Australian store?

Where it is delivered from does not matter - it's who you pay (which is Kogan Australia).

Also a disclaimer or terms on a website does not override ACL.

If they had 2 separate ebay stores Kogan AU and Kogan HK that'd be different. As the money paid is going to a HK company. All money from Kogan's AU store regardless of which warranty they say applies is through an Australian company.

        • @alvian:

          i think ur overestimating this.

this deal for 512gb is $363.

the next best STATICICE deal is $461, almost a $100 difference.

          plus pick/delivery effort/cost.

the typical price elsewhere is about $480 or $499, about $120.

in about 1-2 yrs the price point of these units will drop so far that u can probably pick up a new 512GB for half the price, further diminishing ur value proposition of not buying at this price point of $363 today.

warranty concerns is overrated, these devices are quality controlled from the same HK factory, its not like kogan opens each one up independently and stamps on them before u get it….

          its a great deal!

        • @sachz: Thanks for posting the original deal, sachz. I saw it and I was surprised it got pulled several hours later, as it is well known that Kogan HK has a habit of adding stock every hour.

You have a point with the depreciating value of the SSD. However, I can afford to wait for the next eBay deal that hopefully will cover more shops than this. For example, Shopping Express has the 950/512GB for $479, and that will come with 5-year manufacturer's warranty. Assuming the next eBay deal will only be 15% off and the price remains the same, the extra outlay is $44, or $11 per additional year. For my peace of mind it is worth the price, but different people will see it differently.

For those of you looking at the 950/256GB, Futu Online has it for $279 before discount. You pay $26 more (after 20% discount) but you will be covered for 5 years instead of 1.

        • @alvian: fair enuff….. can I ask a Q tho… do u typically buy extended warranty when u get something (say a LED TV) that only comes with 12 months, to extend to 5 yrs? this often comes at a premium, and going by the above i trust ur response is in the affirmative? (i guess im the only one who doesnt give binglee the extra $$ for their extended warranty on tv's…?) — ? just curious. thnx.

        • +1

@sachz: No, I don't usually buy extended warranty as I have it on my credit card. Also I could rely on my ACL protection. I don't know whether these are available when I buy from Kogan HK eBay, and I'll probably have to spend a lot of time writing to KHK, my bank, and Fair Trading to find out.

Extended warranty may be worthwhile on big ticket items with high failure rates. I did consider it when I bought my plasma TV but its price was too high relative to the clearance price, plus I have my credit card protection anyway.

        • @alvian: fair enuff… for what its worth, for me at least, this price point ($363) i actually dont consider a big ticket item, and considering if it fails in 2 yrs time i can get a replacement for about not much more than the current price difference of paying an extra $140 to buy from a local retailer, im happy to move forward this way…. my risk yes, but then ive had good luck with most new tech i buy online. thnx for ur feedback.

        • +2

@sachz: As I wrote before, it is for my peace of mind. Each of us have our own view of what is a reasonable price and warranty, but we should be cautious when the warranty is massively reduced from 5 to 1 year simply because the product came from overseas.

For me, because of my bad experience with the SanDisk, I value the extra warranty more than the discount. Another factor I haven't mentioned is that my PC build will not be operational any time soon and I need the full warranty to cover the delay.

        • @lysp:

Kogan, very deliberately, are not an Australian company. By chance some of your orders can be fulfilled by an Australian company named Kogan (which would be required to abide by the ACL). But "Kogan HK" which operates the majority of their storefronts, is not required to abide by the ACL, nor are they required to charge/collect GST which is the main reason why they are cheaper. You'll find out very quickly that where it ships from (and the legal entity selling it) DOES matter when you get hit up for the GST on any orders > $1000, or if you are a business and want to claim the GST back.

Possibly sometimes that's worth the risk.

    • To my surprise, I received my SSD this morning and find out it comes with Australian warranty card, despite their webpage stated

Item location: Hong Kong, Hong Kong

I try to register my SSD on www.samsung.com.au/warranty with the serial number printed on the SSD, success.

      • Wow, it gets murkier and murkier. There is this notice on Samsung Australia's site:

Notice Regarding Warranty Card for Samsung Solid State Drive Devices

Samsung has identified that the incorrect warranty card has been supplied in the packaging of the Samsung Solid State Drive. All customers should disregard the warranty terms and conditions in the document titled “Samsung Solid State Drive Warranty Statement Summary”. The correct Warranty Card for the Samsung Solid State Drive is available here and overrides the warranty terms and conditions in the document titled “Samsung Solid State Drive Warranty Statement Summary”. Please contact Samsung on 1300 362 603 if you have any questions or would like further information.

And in my comment above I did quote from the correct Warranty Card, that is, products purchased overseas (which presumably covers KHK) are not covered in Australia. Do you care to ring the telephone number and get an answer from Samsung? Is you SSD covered or not?

  • i posted this same deal 12 hours ago but the OZBARGAIN GODS shut it down cause of low quantity. why is this still there? (yes, i placed an order then, and 8 mor orders since mine). im glad this entry is up, but annoyed my original post was zapped. bad form OZB.

kudo's to OP for getting this up! its an amazing price for the 512GB one!

    • +1

Has happened to me several times. Once a deal I posted way before anyone else got unpublished because "duplicate". Seems like people can report anything they want and the OZB mods will believe other people's words without checking for themselves.

      • -1

im peed off because i would have luvd to see the kogan $363 deal 2 days earlier, since i was looking and couldnt find the deal. only to have a mob block mine (and any earlier than me that i didnt see). it seems OZB are in collusion with preferred suppliers, one could say… :-!?[[

  • Does this ssd fit MacBook Pro 2015

    • Nope. I have one too and Apple is using an ssd with a custom connector :(

      • You need m.2 connector. M slot.

  • so if Samsung Australia does not provide warranty, then effectively, this only has 1 year warranty instead of 5 :(

  • the logs show about 10 items sold since this deal, isnt the person who ordered 4 in a block going to be stung with GST when the item hits australia from HK. they shoulda ordered it in 2 x 2 lots, and the 2nd to a different address or something…. any ideas why they did it?

    • Correct me if I am wrong here. Package is sent via air-mail.
How would GST/taxation department know the value of your purchased?

      • errr… at the border customs.

    • +1

Looks like the same person who ordered 4 a***v has now ordered an additional 2 lots of 2 so either they cancelled there order and re-ordered to avoid this or they are just greedy or they want 8 x 512 GB 950's for resale.

      • yea, a local reseller… watch for them to re-sell if after the 20% discount, $50 profit per unit.

definately a OZB reader here, taking my advice (2x2 instead of 1x4) — hahaa :)

  • Damn that's cheap… I got mine for $430 on special when it first came out before Christmas. :/
