          What's brown and sticky?

          A stick.

  • Any significant advantages over the original Chromecast?

    • +1

Can utilise AC wireless. I think that's the main change

    • +1

      Its circular

    • +12

Can be used as a sink plug

      • +4

Can it also be used as a JV plug

      • It's not very good as a sink plug. Tried it today… It's a bit leaky!

  • +2

I'd be keen if they discounted BOTH the Chromecast 2 Video as well as the Chromecast 2 Audio devices.

  • +3

I don't understand how this is a deal when it is cheaper at bing lee ebay

    • +2

PM at OW for 5% extra off?

      • +1

Hmm true I guess, and HN is probably more convenient than bing lee for some.

        • Also instant gratification for if you really really want it then and there instead of waiting for delivery or C&C.

    • I also don't understand why you positive vote this given that you don't understand how this is a deal when it is cheaper at bing lee feeBay.

      • +2

Pos voted after the69thhokage's comments :)

    • +8

well Bing Lee is only available in NSW… so useless to a lot of people

NSW… so useless to a lot of people

    • +3

With an actual ad, you can ask JB to match it and then use JB Hifi vouchers from coke rewards.

    • +1

not everyone lives in NSW to take advantage of click and collect.

  • How about adding price beat by OW?

    • OW still have some time to reduce the price to $48 to avoid the price beat.

  • So if office works is closer to you than Bing Lee or HN, (They're next to each other for me) then go there, show them the eBay store and ask them to price match it?
Good to know that OW does a price match for eBay big stores.

    • +2

They won't price match ebay, especially since the bing lee deal requires a coupon code.

They do pricematch Harvey Norman though, so you can expect the price to drop to $48, or you can try to get it pricebeat for $45.6 if you are quick.

      • Ta for clarifying buddy.

  • Wish these things ran xbmc. I really want to play LOCAL content via SMB, but these are for pushing you to pay for their content instead. When the crappy 10 year old laptops I'm using as media players in my home die I'm going to have to fork out for a media PC/stick.

      • Lots of complaints it doesn't support AVI. So it's a non-starter for me. But thanks for the info. Appreciate your taking the time to try to help.

        • Ah, I remember AVI. They were great for all those DivX encoded animes back in the 90s :)

EDIT: No, I'm not bagging you for having AVI. In fact, I totally understand the reason because your media laptop is 10 years old and won't be able to handle H.264 or the newer H.265 encodings.

          @Manh:

xvid isn't terrible. I don't have time for re-encoding anything. I'm pretty sure that my deathbed regrets won't include lack of re-encoding of movies. Besides you can't improve on the existing quality by re-encoding unless you still have access to the source.

    • Use PLEX and it can cast.

  • I'm a noob with these things, been satisfied using an old laptop via HDMI for the past few years however it looks outta place, gotta wait for boot up etc.

With so many of these things around now (i.e. apples, ruku, androids etc) whats considered the best option?

From research I'm leaning towards the Nvidia Shield, whilst in the scheme of things yes its expensive, but compared to the price I paid for my 60" and what it will provide in family entertainment….

    Thoughts?

    • if you are using laptop, then you can pretty much do almost anything (depending on what you normally do)
      But it's only $48…
you can connect smart phones (especially) androids, mirror image your phones, casting video from netflix…
without having to turn on your laptop and the list goes on..
BUT you will need to have a smartphone to control!

    • for your use, wont be disappointed..

I was on same boat.and finally made purchase after trying MS Display Adapter and found CC2 is heaps better.

  • Got a Chromecast (v1) and also a Pi2 running straight OpenElec/Kodi/XBMC image.
For playing local content find the PI2 far better, supports all formats.
For casting web content the Chromecast is easier.
Wish had a one size fits all solution.

    • +1

      Nexus Player!
      + Kodi for local content.
+ Bunch of native apps for streaming.
+ Any Android app can be side loaded.
+ Built in Chromecast as a bonus.

  • 100% buying one tomorrow. Bought one from Bing Lee eBay today with the absolute joke they call "click to collect". Paid for it, went to the store only to be told I can't pick it up until the 19th. What the f? Can't pick up an item already paid for. Cancelling order ASAP.

  • Bought an Android TV box on eBay for $65 the other day. 1GB RAM and 8GB storage, much better value than these Chromecast as it has DLNA/Miracast and runs Kodi, what more could you want? :D

    • link?

      • They appear to be out of stock now on his eBay store and website, but the seller name is jollyjohnsonlinediscounts

Keep an eye out as more stock may be coming in soon.

  • Does anyone have good experiences using this through iPad/iPhones
Would Foxtel go work through Apple app to the TV with GC2?

  • Perfect for me, I needed something to spend a the rest of a Harvey Norman voucher on… walked out with it after paying $1.50 :D
