Extra specs including the additional details i've added can be found in this document
Some interesting points is it has a PCIe 16x (25W limit) and PCIe 1x slot (10W limit) for expansion so you can upgrade the graphics if you want with a low end card or add USB 3.0/wifi or another LAN port if you wish

This is a particularly vexing deal for me as I just bought a vastly inferior product to this for around the same price and i've been looking for something like this for about a year

  • decent buy given WIn7pro isnt cheap, socket 1155 though but i guess few people will upgrade… also slimline vga

  • how would this be as a media centre instead of a more expensive 6th gen NUC?

    • +1

Would be perfect for a media centre PC if you ask me, just not as small but a whole lot cheaper

    • If you stuck an External 500GB hardrive on it would be great for one.

The only issue you would have is internal storage, I dont think there would be much room for another internal. streaming and external though would be fine.

Like he said its a little big though.

I bet if you even wanted to you could even chuck a 750 TI (would need to check wattage) and have a media centre similiar to an XBOX spec wise games.

    • +1

      Depends on the NUC
Price wise it can't be beat, it's faster than a ~$250 pentium N3700 and the processor benchmarks around the same as a i3 6100U (the 6100u is rated at 15W vs the 2100's 65W so this is impressive for the 6100u) but costs less than half as much as the barebones kit and this is ready to use.
It has an older much slower GPU, but that isn't too important for video.
The only advantages i can think of that the newer NUCs have is lower power consumption, integrated Wifi, and HDMI 2.0 if you want to run 4K@60fps
But you'll have to pay through the nose for it.

      • So no HDMI 2.0 or 4K compatibility then….still tempting though

        • Nope, it doesn't seem to be 1.4a either so limited to 1920x1200 @ 60hz
I dont think there are any budget cards yet with hdmi 2.0 either so that is a considerable downside if you are requiring 4K

  • Was going to buy and stick some old ram in there. Looks like it's 32 bit though? Can anyone tell?

    • +1

All real CPUs have been 64 bit for ages.

      Instruction Set 64-bit
      http://ark.intel.com/products/53422/Intel-Core-i3-2100-Proce…

    • WIndows pro is 64 bit, dont think there would be any issues chucking in ra, besides the motherboard probably not supporting DDR4, but I doubt your chucking in anything but DDR3 anyway.

    • The specs PDF lists the operating systems being available in 32 bit or 64 bit but how the seller has configured it is anyone's guess.
I'd be surprised if it was 32bit but it's not impossible.
      Sorry i couldn't help

    • +3

      Couldn't you just reinstall as x64 Win7? :/ Didn't think there were different keys for 32bit and 64bit windows7.

      • +1

        There isn't! Same same.

        Also, yo!

        • o7

  • can you upgrade graphics card?

    • +1

There is only an integrated chip but it does have a PCIe 16x slot.
Limited to 25W though so you can't put more than a low end card in there like a GT 710 or something

      • Some low voltage 750 TI's dont need extra power except from whats in the PCIe slot and id gamble it would run with that voltage

  • +2

    No 3.5" disk drive? - that's a deal breaker.

    • It has support for one 3.5" drive, the included HDD is probably 3.5" since I dont see any 2.5" spec in the PDF (page 12)
Edit: It confirms the HDD is 3.5" on page 30

I know this is comparing apples with tofu, but the Intel Compute Stick is great for emby/kodi if your media is on a nas.

  • Do they still make a USFF version, that would be better for htpc having a separate passive PSU.

  • Or buy an old dual core and run linux.

    • +1

I couldn't find any older systems that had HDMI and you can always install linux on this if you want.

      • Good point. Just had a look on ebay and prices are not as cheap as I thought. Have not been in the market for a used pc for some time.

You can still buy a cheap slimline dual core, thow your flavor of linux on it and install a HDMI graphics card. Best way to do this is buy a cheap dual core locally through either facebook or gumtree then get a little video card from ebay.

For those not confident at installing a card I found this for $59 + $22 delivery + $39 upgrade to HDMI graphics. Total price $120 delivered. Of course this system does not even come close to the one listed here. If the sole purpose it to use a media player or internet/office pc then for some it will work just fine.

      • For the price this is pretty decent.

  • FYI, careful with these. Our work had these and half of them failed after a year, but the others have been running strong.

issues seem widespread, and have to do with either the power supply or mobo: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t…

  • Great for HTPC on a network. Win 7 licence alone is very costly. Upgrade to 10 if you want too. If it's like my 780 it has space for 2 x 3.5 internal HDDs. I put a small SSD in to boot - 128 gb - goes like a rocket. Using GT610 half height card. 4GB will be enough for this. Best cheap PC solution I have come across.
