  • Delivered? Or plus shipping?

It is released at April 2014. I paid $450 for nexus 5 at that time.
But I have to say Z2 has all I need.

      • Similar to an (AU$) $366.00 eBay deal for ASUS ZenFone 2:

        • 5.5" screen
        • Dual-SIM
        • 4gb + 64gb RAM/stor. (cheaper w/ 4gb RAM + 32gb stor.)
        • up to 128gb uSD card slot (for user's card)

Model: ZE551ML (GsmArena.com has some of its spec's)

Reviewers say it's fast; may be older than this Sony.

Free Express Post from Taiwan… Silver or Gold

PS My bias: Never liked my first Xperia (ie: an X10)

        • +1

Both phones are good. 3G RAM is enough. difference is Sony has 2 years local warranty.

        • +1

I had an x10 too.. On a z2 now and have to say the x10 was a lemon
Although I'm not entirely sure I'd pay 400 now since they were at this price msy sometimes ago

Good phone, but bit bulky n 163g.

    • +8

163 grams? Dammmmmn… There's gonna be more leg days at the gym for sure.

  • +10

I paid this price over 2 years ago for my wife for Xmas. This is not still considered cheap is it??

    • +3

I agree considering we are up to the z5 it's still too much

      • +1

Remember that Z2 and Z3 had same specs and there was no Z4, it's still a very powerful device!

        • +1

Nothing wrong with the phone, I just don't see a 2 year old model still being cheap at $400.
The Z3 did have better specs though they were similar.

Edit and it was Xmas 2014 I purchased it so it wasn't 2 years ago I bought it but around 15 months ago.

        • +2

@Where's_That_Cake: I'm just surprised that they still have stock for Z2…

    • Yeah I agree. On first glance $400 isn't very cheap for a 2 year old phone.

    • Gotta remember that 2 years ago the AUD was worth significantly more than it is now.
$400 AUD then is the equivalent to $530 now.

      • +2

The exchange rate was US$0.81c in Dec 14, its US$0.74c now. Not that big of a difference tbh. Depreciation should have well and truly taken this phone down to $330-$350 IMO.

        • +1

          Wow really?
I thought it would have been about the time that it was roughly 1:1..
          Time has flown!

EDIT - looks like it plummeted in 2014… exactly the time period that our most recent former Prime Minister had been in office for 3 months and was supposed to be "boosting confidence and the economy" according to all my rabid Liberal friends! :-)

    • where from?

      • Not sure exactly but I got the details from comments on here in another phone thread at the time. I recall I was planning on buying her another Samsung Galaxy at the time.

        • Do you like it? I'm considering getting one :)

        • @TRENT86: It's my wife's but yes, I think they're a solid phone. I love my Z2 tablet. You'll have to buy more memory for it so account for that. Is it really the best phone you can get for $400 though?

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Do you have another suggestion?

  • -3

I have this phone, pretty cheap construction but that's typical Sony mobile.

    • I love Sony phones I have had two since I started using smart phones I am currently using the Xperia m4 aqua if I had to pay full retail for it I would of been disappointed but I picked it up brand new unopened on gumtree for $200, my only gripe is the 8gb of internal storage pretty stupid move by Sony. The main reason I haven't ever purchased a Z series to date is because I really don't want to go anywhere near phones with a glass back. Sony unfortunately makes some pretty poor decisions. They have the best battery saving tech yet are lacking in so many other areas!

      • +2

Had a z for 2 years, put leather case on it and never had an issue. Ive dropped on concrete and tiles likely hundreds of times, not a scratch.

    • What's cheap about it..? I have this phone too

      • The frame is fantastic plastic, my back cover has started to lift (noticeable if you push on the back), tiny plastic buttons are all worn and barely push down, the LCD has a yellow tint in some spots, poor reception compared to past phones, camera overheats in sun and app shuts down

Most of this stuff is not all that noticeable but for the suggested price and the competition I don't think it's good enough

        • The frame is fantastic plastic

Apart from your other points, it's aluminium/plastic composite. Plastic cracks, this DENTS from falls. Fairly sure the inner assembly is plastic though.

  • is it dual sim

  • I have a Z1 (bought with coupon for $340 when Z2 was the latest), which no longer gets updates since late last year. I doubt the Z2 will get any updates after 6.0. My Z1 had stability problems straight out of the box (camera crash), and major battery problems after an OTA update to 5.1.1. I have had to do flashing and factory resets since.
Sony does not test their software well, and their support is worse than useless. $399 is too much for this outdated phone.

    • I Wouldn't say it's outdated spec wise

      • I agree, and by that logic I bought a Z1, thinking that I don't care whether my phone is recent or not, as long as it is fast. It did not occur to me that I might have software flaws that would render it nearly unusable. I'm talking battery life cut in half, and countless "would have been great" photo's lost due to constant camera crashes. Not worth saving a few dollars if you have to spend days (in total) backing up and reinstalling your phone (several times) in a desperate attempt to make it usable again.
When these phones work, they're great (awesome camera), but there's a risk.

  • Thanks, ordered one!

Will serve as a good music player to stream audio to my car's bluetooth, and a good camera to boot.

This and the S6 edge from Optus store should serve me as well for my 2 SIMs now that I've given away all the Y550s I had "collected" last year haha
