I have the 256gb version of this and it is definitely worth the price over a portable HDD or thumb drive. It is surprisingly small (the cable literally weighs more than the drive) and extremely quick.

    • Yeah small as, I think it weighs around 28g

This is the older Samsung USB T1:

The newer Samsung USB T3, has a Type-C connector:

      • lol… I find it quite funny how Samsung made the 2nd gen model 'bigger AND slower' than the original! Am glad I have the 500GB T1 model. More than happy to sacrifice shock resistance & usb type c for more portability & faster transfer speeds!

I'd be interested to see how this compares to a normal SSD in an enclosure like the ORICO 2599US3.

    • Not sure how well it'd compete, but I do remember that the SSD that they've used inside this one is a mSATA version of 850 EVO. I guess it'd be smaller at the very least, since it doesn't use normal size (i.e. 2.5 inch, SATA) SSD?

    • 2.5" ssd in a 2.5" enclosure vs a msata ssd in a compact enclosure. This is alot more compact, rugged, and good looking.

FYI… for anyone interested on performance, I have one of these (I bought for $223 from memory at Bing Lee during the 20% ebay sale), an 840 EVO, 840 EVO Pro and 850 EVO Pro. I use them for editing photos and RAW video files in Davinci Resolve.

    This drive's performance is comparable to the 840 EVO. I'd say… 840 EVO < T1 < 840 EVO Pro < 850 EVO Pro

This is a very good deal as I have been looking at getting another one and it's the cheapest I've seen. Nice find Trent!

can you tear this down and put it on a laptop?

    • This! Can anyone confirm if this has sata innards?

    • +4

umart has the 850 evo msata for 229 at the moment so you would only save 7 dollars but risk damaging the mSATA ssd while tearing open the case.

I'd probably just pay the extra 7 dollars.

  • I signed up for the voucher but no cigar, only got a welcome email

  • Worth paying $100 extra for the 500gb over the 250gb?

Should I buy a station wagon?

How many kids should I have?

    • Depends on what you will be using it for. I use it more for temporary storage before archiving/backing up to a HDD/NAS (more affordable).

My working folder for video/photo editing is huge so I need the extra 500GB. If you're not dealing with huge files for day to day use then perhaps you may only need the 250GB drive.

Um… is it right to buy a Chrysler?

Oh yes, for great is the car with power steering and dyna-flow suspension.

Wow…great price. Got mine for like… a lot more.

Good for stuff like running virtual machines and other stuff you need a high/fast transfer rate for.

  • No dice regarding voucher. Tried two different email addresses.

    • Yeah looks like the voucher is finally done, sorry dude :(

Could try price matching at office works, for those that don't have the voucher.

    • Thanks m8, good since the voucher is no longer available :)

  • Is it possible to use this to have access to BOTH mac and win10 changing between the two?

  • I've got the 250gb version of this drive. Highly recommend it. Hasn't skipped a beat. Security feature is really good for sensitive files and the drive itself is very fast.

  • Just called OW for price match, apparently I got the last one in the warehouse.

But a few stores still have them in stock.

Can anyone confirm if this will work with Mac OSX if formatted in exFAT or by using Paragon (if formatting in NTFS)?

    Cheers

  • I just bought one from officeworks today in the Box Hill store on Middleborough road.
They seemed to have reduced their prices to match Harvey Norman so they dont have to pricebeat online.
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/SearchDisplay?searchTerm=…

But the stores seemed to have the old price so they pricebeat for me when I bought the 500GB

    • Looking to buy one from OW but looks like they stepped in to match HN… damn oh well.

  • OfficeWorks has this for $238 now. Got one yesterday.
