You're probably still better off getting the 30 pack of alkaline ones for around $9 at Bunnings…

    • +2
      • -1

I dont understand why you're trying to push your one when it's more expensive?

        • +4

          come again

        • +6

Bunnings ones are $9.72 (jv said around $9), so Master's ones are cheaper @ $9.48

        • -1

          @pax:

          so Master's ones are cheaper

I'd rather pay the extra 24 cents and get good quality German made ones…

      • -1

or at Masters for $9.48 - 30 Pack of AA Batteries

        where are they made ?

The Utilitechs are usually made in China.

The Varta batteries are made in Germany and are excellent quality. I've been buying them for many many years and never had any leaks…

        • -1

Just checked the non-Bunnings Varta longlife (alkaline) AA in my mouse and it's made in China. Is there any difference in quality? Dunno but if it worries anyone read the smallprint.

        • @Possumbly:

Just checked the non-Bunnings Varta longlife (alkaline) AA in my mouse and it's made in China.

Bunnings haven't sold the Chinese ones for quite a few years as far as I know.

Where and when did you get them?

        • @jv: can't recall exactly, bought a few years ago. They were good value at the time.

        • +2

I still have 60-70 Utilitechs from the 100 for $15 Masters deal in 2013 lol. No probs with the batteries, only really use them for remotes and toys though.

Oh and I have a 9V Varta Made in Malaysia.

      • Do you still have AAA in the Utilitechs? Was looking for a value/bulk pack in the 30-100 range, found everything but AAA at my local store.

    • Thanks jv, almost pulled the trigger on the panasonic deal.

      • +1

Varta ones are excellent and always at around that price….

    • -1

Hey jv, try not to mislead people in the future please. Just buy 8 of the AA 4 Packs for $8 and you'll get 32 batteries

      • 32 'heavy duty.'
        Who's being misleading?

        • +1

Mcfly, not everyone has the exact same uses as you. it might surprise you but the world doesn't revolve around your needs. I use these for remotes and i like the fact they are Panasonic.

Thanks for posting Masters, i'll be instore later today to pick up these and some solar lights

        • @skimmermilk:

Mcfly, not everyone has the exact same uses as you. it might surprise you but the world doesn't revolve around your needs

Everyone here is entitled to express their own views, for their own uses and should not be claiming to speak for 'everyone'…

        • +1

@skimmermilk: It's not about me, it's about 'heavy duty' being crap.
If you think 6c cheaper per battery vs. alkalines is a bargain then good luck to you.

        • @jv:

I think your confused, where did i say they weren't allowed to express their opinion?

For some reason both you and mcfly are trying to convince people to buy a different product based on a your own uses (although i suspect it just to ruin someone (masters) post because bunnings pays you to do it)

In actual fact, as highlighted, both of you were the one misleading. Again because bunnings is paying you to do so.

        • @skimmermilk:

I think your confused, where did i say they weren't allowed to express their opinion?

Your criticising McFly for expressing their opinion.

"Mcfly, not everyone has the exact same uses as you. it might surprise you but the world doesn't revolve around your needs."

          re :

For some reason both you and mcfly are trying to convince people to buy a different product based on a your own uses

I'm not trying to convince anyone, I'm commenting on my opinion…

        • @jv:

"Get Varta or Utilitech… or any alkaline - just don't get 'heavy duty' crap."

Is that an opinion or a persuasion?

I look forward to your PC response JV?

        • @skimmermilk:

because bunnings is paying you to do so.

You'll definitely be needing that luck I wished you.
          Shakes head…

        • @McFly:

My apologies, i just assumed you were getting paid by bunnings, i guess you and JV are just fanboys.

        • +1

          @skimmermilk: Of what? Non-crap?

      • +3

try not to mislead people in the future please. Just buy 8 of the AA 4 Packs for $8 and you'll get 32 batteries

and aren't you then misleading people by telling them to buy carbon batteries over alkaline batteries to 'save' a dollar…

Not much of a saving when your batteries won't last anywhere near as long…

        • Well the misleading issue here just sounds like it's actually a form of information disclosure and also an opinion which just helps other make a decision. Don't see how jv can mislead people when each individual has the freewill to choose for themselves. And agree with how carbon ain't as lasting. Penny wise pound foolish as some may say.

      • JV has posted a better alternative that would be more attractive to most people. The only misleading here is from you, everyone else is just discussing better options than the rubbish you're trying to flog. There's a comments/discussion feature for a reason. Are you really an official representative of the company!?

      • -1

Maybe I chose my words wrong, it is just that using words like probably and around when referring to the price at a competitor and then not stating the correct price means that people could easily get the wrong message. I was trying to give as much accurate information as I could, if I have left anything out or any information is incorrect please let me know and I will update the post.

        • +1

There's nothing wrong with the actual post wording, what you did wrong was comparing the price of the two kinds of batteries as if the quality was equivalent.

      • -2

HUH, REP I WISH YOU KNEW HOW TO DO YOUR JOB… INSTEAD OF ARGUING WITH MEMBERS HERE AND TURNING THEM AGAINST MASTERS, YOU SHOULD TRY AND RESOLVE THEIR QUERIES IN A POSITIVE MANNER… MAY I ASK HOW DID YOU GET THIS JOB ?

SHOULD BE SACKED FOR YOUR COMMENT ABOVE !!!

        • Go change the batteries in your keyboard, it's not recognising the caps lock key. Heavy Duty ones should do.

    • Plus then you get Alkalines and can at least use them in remote controls. These are plain heavy duty batteries and are not designed for electronic equipment. These are meant for non electronic kid's toys(motors and lights) and old incandescent torches that will then slowly dim is they die.

I wonder why they still manufacture anything below an Alkaline? Perhaps, with so many buying them for the wrong use and their corresponding short life, coupled with a low production cost, it is too profitable not to pump them out?

Does anybody know a modern use for non Alkaline?

    • Got some of these on the weekend. People comparing bulk buy value vs small packs are right of course about buying bulk being potentially better value.

I've had nothing but good experience with Masters (although some of the staff need some customer service initiatives).

I go into masters and get bargains every time I am in there (got some 6 pack of solar lights for $2.50, these batteries and a $49 table and chairs set)

I think it's great that Masters is on here and attempting to communicate and get us better deals (unlike bunnings), sorry JV and others if they don't have extensive battery knowledge of battery production, I know jv is a constant troll and Masters OP should realise this, but the arguments in this deal are kind of embarrassing.

  • I just wish I had a close Masters. It's not worth the petrol to Chullora, or delivery costs.

    • I just wish I had a close Masters.

They'll probably be closing soon, so you'll get your wish…

  • +6

Get Varta or Utilitech… or any alkaline - just don't get 'heavy duty' crap.

    • +2

AVOID VARTA they leak big time I just found an old remote that I put away with some Varta alkalines inside. Everything is corroded.

Not supporting Panasonic by my point here. Just saying dont rely on Varta it will be expensive if you do.

  • +8

I have no idea why anyone would buy "heavy duty" (Carbon Zinc) batteries, not only do they have much less capacity than alkaline batteries (which themselves are crap compared to low self discharge NI-MH rechargeable batteries in a lot of uses) but they are also one of the most likely batteries to leak.

  • +1

Don't buy heavy duty batteries guys…

  • Not sure what it is about Masters promos, but there is no "buzz" about their deals.

I mean, Panasonic batteries for less than $1? What???

It's cheap, right?… until you find it they are zinc carbon.

But it's Panasonic!… a seal of quality last century… but today, it's trash. An abused brand milking their goodwill.

But it's 99 cents… it should attract the cheapo's that buy anything; Yet batteries are one of few products where the community still buys the quality option.

C'mon Masters, I want to support you. I do. But can't. It feels like the marketing dept are using computer algorithms that are finding the average of everything, trying to please everyone. But it is pleasing no one.

Take a risk Master's, you literally have nothing to lose now.

      Did you see this post?
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/236178
7 front page deals in the last week

      • yes, and apart from arguably the Dyson, there was nothing worth buying. again. Good luck.

        • -1

You are obviously hard to impress

        • +2

Nothing worth buying? Yet there were enough of us to upvote 7 front page deals.

  • Will buy some

HAHAHA what a joke Master's policies are… I placed a click and collect order on Friday 26/02/2016 through their Marsden Park store… Today i contacted them to see where my order was up at as i did not receive any call or followup and its been 2 days !
Upon enquiring the store advises me … "Oh, we might have sold out of those…" however, their online store still shows stock in their Marsden Park Store… So WHY EXACTLY MASTERS IS TAKING PEOPLE'S MONEY THROUGH ONLINE ORDERS AND SIT ON THEIR MONEY FOR HOWEVER LONG THEY WISH TO TAKE AND THEN ADVISE THEM, OH WE SOLD OUT.
Pretty obvious they are taking money from online orders in and also double selling their products in store !!! and this is not the first time this has happened.

Experience with my previous click collect order at St Mary's store - it took them 6 weeks to supply the product !!!
and once i tracked down an order placed 3 weeks ago and was advised that the product was sold out and store FORGOT to advise me !

CRAPPY CUSTOMER SERVICE COMBINED WITH DODGY POLICIES !!! AND ON TOP OF THAT THEIR IN STORE STAFF TOTALLY DISOWNS THE ONLINE SALES AND SAY WE DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ONLINE SALES AS THATS THE HEADOFFICE… WOAAH… I WISH THEY CLOSE DOWN FOREVER ASAP
