I would run auction days instead, start with lower prices and attract more potential buyers to compete for higher price, many-in-1 card ;)

      • +1

they don't really have a leg to stand on. if they want to sell stuff, they need an actual sale. when you take into account returns/warranty/gift cards/customer support - all of that is gone (apart from manufacturers warranty). but again, not suprising, considering this is how the business has been run as long as I can remember.

        • Eh I got Sony Wireless 2.0 headset for my PS4 for $79 (normally $129) and a couple of free games thrown in. Maybe you just need to be nicer? :)

Hopefully there's some good stuff by the time the discount has ramped up to 40-50-60% off, but I won't hold my breath.

  • +12

Will the real Clearance Sale please stand up?

    • +3

      Slim Shaddy please stand up

  • Gift cards would become collector's item in few years time.

    • +1

not with a brand that now full of hatred :)

      • -1

There are collectors of Nazi paraphernalia.

Hatred is not really an obstacle.

        Just sayin'.

  • +2

5% off Apple products when it's closing down sale?

    Rubbish.

  • Someone please take some in-store photo to show us what items are 40% off. I go and have a look after work or tomorrow morning.

    • iPhone 4 charging cables are on sale. More than 40% off the move brand

  • +2

33 out of 56 now, can't wait till this so-called deal voted out :)

  • +2

Took a look at the Toombul store just then. Its nothing special. Mostly DSE junk that is over priced to start with. discounted tv prices are average. I would imagine this is the first stage of discounting- happy to wait till discounts are increased

  • +1

They should really call this as "Collectors items" sale instead

  • Dick smith sales are a waste of time…

    • A negative vote would be nice

    • +2

Dick smith is a waste of time*

  • Any Stores with the Microsoft Surface Book?

    • +1

DSE do not stock the MS Surface.

This sale is no more of a sale than a Closing Down Sale for a shifty rug stall. I would expect some random deals over the coming weeks, but for now, not a bargain (unless you are a fan of DSE branded overpriced cables etc…)

      • thanks I wont waste my time, Thanks for saving it!

I wonder if they will allow me to use my $50 store credit?

  • Has Anyone noticed their email has a banner in the middle that says "new stock is arriving"?

Which company in liquidation would be getting new stock?

    • New store stock from warehouse?

For the online store, there's probably items they could dropship straight from the distributor. No reason not to. As long as there's $5 profit on it, why not get telstra to ship you a new mobile and pocket a few bucks.

      • Exactly. I'm positive their warehouses/online stock will be sent to stores.

    • The warehouse would still be jam packed with unsold private label products. They literally have tens of thousands of DS branded TVs sitting around in the warehouse, so I hear. Doubt they'd have much branded stock to clear that the recievers actually purchased while the company was in limbo.

Walked in to the neutral bay store today and the staff were all unhelpful jerks. I asked 1 guy if the 20% off laptops cane off from the marked prices and he goes nah it comes off from the oriiginal price. I told him that means then that the marked proce is cheaper than the 20% off and he just goes yeah in that case u just pay whatever the marked price is then. I felt like asking wjat was the point of all the 20% off sogns everywhere but decided not to waste my breath

    • +7

But this is not a normal sale. It's an accountant sale.

      1. Start at RRP
      2. 20% off for a week.
      3. Didn't sell? 30% off for a week..
      4. Didn't sell? 40% off for a week..

      etc.

The prices are what they are, and the staff can't help it so don't argue about it.

The lesson from all this is "Don't be a Dick".

      • Thanks Kent

      • Spot on KentT. Your post should be on every website and social media post talking about the DSE closure. This is exactly how they do it.

So much better than the fantasy story written by Lifehacker about a ridiculous fire sale.

  • +4

Absolute waste of time, just been to the Macquarie Centre Dick Smith, they don't have much stock and prices aren't at bargain price at all. Shop assistants have been marking prices down but prices aren't that great. No Deal mate
Another scam PR to get more people into store.

  • -8

I can not negative due to 3 negatives being revoked by admin on previous deals……Is this Australian website?

  • +3

Move along folks - nothing to see here.

  • +3

Watch out for lack of warranty

    • +1

You'll get manufacturer warranty as long as you buy non-Dick branded products.

      • Good call. Statutory warranty.
Would be harder than store warranty though.

  • -4

LEAVE DICK SMITH ALONE!! Wait… that's a poor choice of words.

    • +12

thats a poor choice of an attempt at a joke

      • まこと

  • What a disappointment. Went to the broadway store during lunch. $600 for a s5 32gb.

  • +1

went into the wollongong store, if you can call it a store, they have tv boxes out the front but the prices were no different than the xmas sale.

everything else expensive, JB hifi stuff was cheaper and there wasnt even a sale there

  • Cant wait until all retail stores go out of business :)

  • +2

    Just bought a PS4 wireless headset for $79 .

    I am happy :D

    • -2

      Sounds like normal price?

      • +5

If he's happy, leave him be ;)

      • +7

The point is I've been wanting to buy this for a very long time.

It beats paying $129 from EB and JB.
        I am easily satisfied XD

      • +1

        I got one too! :D

        "Sounds like normal price?"

Nope. $129 at Target, EB, JB, HN (and Dick Smith until today)

  • +1

What a waste of a day.

Went to a few stores around the inner S.E. Melbourne area and not a single product was on sale.

Many products in store are more expensive than the website and the stores refused to sell for the price on the website.

Didn't see a single person actually buy anything either, just a lot of empty hands leaving.

  • +1

Nothing worthwhile seems to be left in any store with decent footfall (Westfield Doncaster, Chadstone, Highpoint), and even if it is, the prices are still higher than what I can find elsewhere.

No iPhone and iPads are in store for what it's worth…even online they're delivery only, and there's no way I'm letting Dick have $1300 of my money in an attempt to save $70 considering the've told people their deposits have been forfeited…

  • +2

Went into a large Perth store…super sad sale it should be called.

Fair few people around looking dumbfounded at the crappy prices, no staff visible and zero people buying anything.

  • G29 steering wheels are $349, cheaper than everywhere else atm.
Most stores usually have one so if you're lucky you'd be able to pop in and grab the last one!

  • Such a shame, good memories of the awesome DSE pricing on PS4's via various ebay sales and the other genuine bargains from around the same time frame, but it's all over now except for, as a few people have said, there might be a few stray actual bargains that people luck into as part of this sale but for the most part it's pretty uninspiring stuff..

  • Went into robins dick smith.. People are lurking on left over trash. Felt like as if I was walking through a junk yard. Biggest joke of a liquidation sale.

  • With such sale DSE will go down faster than thought previously. Chaddy store is the worst as far as fire sale goes.

  • Im sure there will be some deal soon we wll all give praise and positives too but right now its just their average prices.

  • +3

No bargains in Ballina or Lismore. The dude laughed when I made offers on their over-priced junk. To hell with them.

    • +1

The staff in Ballina are (profanity). Have been treated rudely so many times. I click and collected an order but then was told they didn't have any stock. I said 'well online it said Ballina had stock', and the manager replied 'well this is the real world'. Good riddance to them.

  • Sorry no deals in WA.

  • So what happens with stock they have as they approach last day?

The news today said banks will get some money back but no one else so therefore stock is not going to be transferred somewhere else?

I think I'll wait for the last great firesafe if it ever happens - then just have to beat the staff grabbing everything.

    • Will probably be sold en masse to places like GraysOnline or COTD for a few cents on the dollar. After 8 weeks of liquidation I'd only expect private label crap to be left anyway.

  • +2

This is a great example of why they're going out of business - trying to dupe consumers into buying a 'deal' when it ain't a deal

    Caveat Emptor

  • I dident set my expectations high but went and had a look today and after looking around the store absolutely nothing that I would consider a bargain

  • Ahhhh I went to the Dick smith next to Myers in Perth CBD afterschool today, nothing special at all, they only had Move/Homebrand bits and pieces and I was listening to the store rep telling the customers to go to the main store across from HJ and KFC. Might go there tomorrow to see if they have anything better, my hope isn't very high right now

  • +1

THOSE ARROGANT, WICKED WORKERS ARE THE REASON DICK SMITH IS CLOSING DOWN!?!?!!!!!
wonder if I can get a nice deal on a pc

    • +1

I agree with the above statement. I was about to post a similar comment, but you were quicker. I went to several stores in Sydney and their sales assistants were very impolite. They acted like you don't exist in the store. Bad customer service can kill a business in no time.

    • i guess they are gonna be out of a job pretty soon, so understandable they're a bit sour

  • You'd think they'd have pulled their careers link when they put up the closing down banner.

Put simply, Dick Smith is a great place to work. We value each one of our 3300+ employees and support them with the training and incentives they need to power ahead in life. When you join Dick Smith you join an organisation with a strong and rewarding culture with an exciting future.

  • No thing really special, still crappy price. I am really sick of their spam for the last few weeks with BS sale. It's about time for them to be gone.

  • The last time I lost sleep over their junk sales, not going to happen this time.

  • I notice they no longer have the Acer Z35 monitor for sale on their web site.

I reckon a lot of suppliers have pulled the pin. Good luck finding the gems amongst the garbage.

    • Didn't know they sell that product. Maybe some stores might have that in stock.

  • Max 20% off most items and 30% off crappy beats doesn't really look like a closing down / liquidation sale at all.

  • +1

Psst 5% on Apple computers? They were always 10% every now and then. Sorry no deal.

  • Nothing against the OP but negging coz most of these aren't deals, pretty much RRP after discounts on inflated prices.

  • Are they trying to get back into business by manipulating all the media attention that they have gotten to put up a so called 'Sale' where it's just RRP? I don't even.

  • +2

This wasn't even worth putting on pants…

  • Maybe start a new thread when bargains actually start occurring. A computer I was looking out for was reduced from $2599 (last week) to $2539 yesterday. This was no decent brand and other computers and TVs haven't been reduced at all. Most stock is around 20% more expensive than competitors anyway and the configurations are limited with many containing last gen processors. No real bargains, all hype a waste of time going there. Hopefully in the future prices will drop. At least one person was happy with an s2 tab for $520 but nothing that I can see of note.

  • Yay… DS is selling their stock (shop damaged/open box/returns/EOL/etc), for a discount, but don't expect any kind of warranty, albeit DS stores were notorious with warranty even before Dick sold the business.

Meanwhile, Myer is selling a lot of the same brands (Apple/Bose/etc) for twice the discount that Dick Smith is offering, but including full store warranty — https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/236326?utm_source=newslett…

  • Purchased PS4 controller yesterday morning for C&C as Ingle Farm SA showing as in-stock but could not get to store until today. Received confirmation of order and payment taken. Called store today and most unhelpful staff member said there is no stock left anywhere and that I had been sold item online that was not available. Rude staff member and ridiculous sales process. Good riddance Dick Smith and to staff like that (note - not all DSE staff are bad, just the majority I have dealt with in the past)

  • Went into a few stores today and absolutely nothing worth anything at all. Cheaper stuff at MYER, and MYER isn't cheap at all.

"If these discounts seem pretty lacklustre right now, you might want to hold off until the weekend or next week: we’ve received confirmation that prices will continue to drop incrementally over the next eight weeks. (We’ll have more detailed information on this soon.)"

    • Interesting that Samsung tablets are listed as 30% off, because the website shows them as being 20% off.

  • I think it's been mentioned amongst all these comments already but Oppo F1 Gold seems decent @ $239.00:
    - 5" HD (1280x720) IPS
    - 3gb Ram
    - micro sd

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/mobiles-wireless/oppo-f1-gold-un…

    • Decent against what? It's a DSE exclusive product

    • And yet you still downvoted?

      • I didn't downvote???

        • +1

I replied to Micmac's comment, not yours.

  • Very few things are actually on sale compared with pricing at competitors…yet another Dick fail…yawn…

Even when the ship is going down, they still down learn that false advertising and lying to customers is a short term strategy that gets found out very quickly.

    DSE leaving the market:
    1. Will not have a material effect on competition, as they were higher priced already (ie. they weren't driving market pricing down)
    2. Will benefit JayCar Electronics, the only other franchised hobbyist electronics chain
    3. Will boost JB HiFi, Harvey Norman, and other bricks & mortar retailers, they will absorb DSE's small market share

    • +3

JayCar doesn't benefit from Dick Smith closing down. Dick Smith doesn't sell electronic components ever since they changed their target market of DIY electronic hobbyists to the general market, and that happened many years ago.

If anything competes with JayCar it's eBay, Mouser and all the other online retailers that are it's biggest competition.

      • Shows how often I was ever tempted to go to Dick Smith in the last 10 years…

  • +1

BS samsung smartphones not even 20% off

  • First two pages contain pretty much all the green positive votes. Remaining pages, after people have seen for themselves or read others' reports, pretty much red negative votes all the way.

    • +1

And if you search for a cached page of this product you will see it was this price a week ago. It's easy to break the law when you you're closing down.
