  • Not rechargeable is a pretty big minus.

    • +5

      It lasts 3 months….

Just buy a 10 pack on eBay

    • The alternative would be a non-replaceable battery that degrades after so many charges and discharges. It would also be hard to replace in the future unlike these.

  • Thanks Clear, much appreciated!

Will Cashrewards also stack on top of this discount?

    • I'm getting confirmation on that now.

    • It should work, but they can't guarantee it as there is no formal relationship between CR and GB. CR are just shareasale affiliates.

  • Interesting idea. So it's basically a watch with Bluetooth capacity to tell you whether you have phone calls and more? Can you use it to get notifications for apps as well?

    • There is indepth review here
      http://www.xda-developers.com/elephone-w2-review-move-over-m…

It is very basic. Like the Xiaomi Miband, it does not have a 'screen' of any type, it just flashes and vibrates. But unlike it, it tells the time and the battery is removable. It runs on two batteries — one powers the clock movement and the other larger CR2032 battery runs the 'smartwatch' portion.

If you want a screen to read notifications on, this is not the smartwatch you'll want… Pebble or Moto 360 is your best bet.

      • I was thinking on the lines of what miband does like vibrations for apps like messengers and such, not just for phone calls. I am just asking because it doesn't mention anything about the app notifications.

    • Currently there is no feature to get notifications for other apps, but Elephone have been releasing updates recently so it might happen.

    • And here I was thinking that my phone could simply tell me that its ringing. I am so in the dark ages I wish this font were white.

There are times when it's useful, usually when you don't want to have your phone ringing but still want to have some idea on who or what's triggering the notification. i.e. library, at night, when you are on bus and can't be bothered to take the phone out to check the notification.

I have miband and most of the times, my phone stays on silent or vibrate. I personally have my miband set in such way that it vibrates differently depending on who's calling and on what app's triggering it. That way, I can concentrate on things without needing to look at the phone for something low on the priority list.

I too sometimes wish I were James Bond

I find the vibrations to be useful in a noisy environment. Very useful at the pub on a Saturday night.

        • Something that vibrates in you pocket has marketing potential …
Especially if it's different if your boss wife or girlfriend rings.

    • Someone should make something like a watch band that can attach to existing watches.. Would be awesome to use normal watches but have the Bluetooth notification.

      • Funny you say that… it's already been done by a few companies. Most have failed unfortunately like Giance while Chronos looks promising. I've even seen some others from Chinese companies appearing on Taobao.

        • I remember Sony (or a company within Sony or something) doing something like that as a project, with e-ink display on strap, as well. It looked promising but it's been a while so I cannot remember the exact detail too well.

        • +2
        • @Clear: Yeah, that looks like it. :)

        • Oh, that Giance is fugly!.. No wonder why it failed.. Kills the look of your watch..

Chronos is what I want. Something like that is ideal.

          Thanks for the info :)

          @supnigs:

Also check out the Withings Activitie in three different styles, the budget Cookoo 2, the Cogito and the Kairos

And if you really want a good looking one but have deep pockets:

        • @Oversimplified:
maybe its the sony swr30 that is for sale http://www.sony.com.au/product/swr-30
its e-ink and just a band.

        • @scrimshaw: thanks for the extra info, appreciated. I really want to add smart functions to my collection of watches and so far chronos looks good, its still a but expensive though for now. Will check out some reviews first

        • @supnigs:

Oh, then you might be interested in TipTalk. it simply replaces the watch strap of your current watch, and still lets you talk with it. You simply shove your index finger into your ear to transmit the vibrations (bone conduction tech) to hear and the microphone on the band receives your voice.

Apparently it will be priced just under $80 USD ($111 AUD), cheaper than the Chronos.

        • @scrimshaw: yeah, that's exactly what I wa thinking. Built into the band in a non intrusive manner. Not sure what you mean by talking with index finger though.

Very tempting, but I imagine it would be quite awkward to wear that bulky watch to sleep everyday.

    • it does look mighty thick.

  • Italian calf leather band

I find it hard to believe they'd be importing leather from Italy for the band.

Smart watch stuff aside, at least for this price you are getting a quality Swiss Rhonda movement and a sapphire crystal. The watch case finishing looks OK too. Much more than you get from some of those branded China "fashion" watches for less.

    • That's what I was thinking - were this a citizen ecodrive I'd be on it in a flash - a decent Swizz quartz movement and sapphire is the thing I'm looking at, and the link to the phone for notifications the 'play' aspect. I may be showing my age, but ~ $300 for a software driven device whose battery is going to be dead in two years is hardly something you'd get your offspring as a life milestone present, whereas this is cheap enough for school/uni/work wear without looking [and performing] like something from the bargain rack at a $2 shop.

      • Exactly.

        • There is limited space for how many devices you can wear especially with more wearable devices having heart rate monitors

  • I am tempted by this watch but this price is the same email subscribers got offered. Hoping for a better price… Already have a LG G Watch R so not sure I need this one

    • Elephone have control over the price. This is as low as I can get it.

    • +1

I found a cheaper price on Aliexpress, US $65.59 which beats it by $4.40
      http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Elephone-W2-Bluetooth-4-0-Sma…

but you won't get Cashrewards tracking. I eventually opted to buy from Geekbuying anyway since Aliexpress uses Alipay not Paypal.

oh and there's this promotion for a $8 voucher once you have paid for something in feb with an alipay account.
      http://activities.aliexpress.com/alipay_feb.php

      • Except that coupon won't work on anything over $64.

  • Doesn't mention in the reviews. But can u change music on your phone with the watch?

    • I haven't seen any functionality that does it sorry.

  • amazing to see sapphire glass on a cheap watch, didnt notice that when I first stumbled across it

  • I like the look of those! How does it compare with FitBit other than the heart monitor of course? Does FitBit provide more details such as climb steps?

  • Does the data from this watch sync with Google Fit? Their app doesn't look that great.

    • Not currently. The app does look similar to Xiaomi's and GFit may be included later.
