  • Lol.. I was about to post this

  • not bad considering the price of 2x 6TB drives is that or more.. so you get 'cloudness' for free

    • +1

      Don't think it's 2x6TB RAID1 to make it a 6TB device, it'll be 2x3TB RAID0 to make a 6TB device.

      • +1

Do 3TB drives still have a high failure rate?

        • +4

It's just the ST3000DM001 model which has a rate of near 25%, or in my experience 100%.

        • @Rutger: well! that's just brilliant success rate (@ failing) … they deserve a massive hi five……. to the face…. with a chair… made of concrete …

        • +1

          @Rutger:

I've had 3 out of 5 fail over the past 3 years.

Number 1 failed after running for 1.5 years non-stop.
          Number 2 failed after 2.5 years non-stop
Number 3 (new) failed after running for 2 months non-stop

The other two are now well into a 3rd year.

All had monthly SMART tests scheduled and all failed without any warning or prior history of problems.

        • @captain smash: I sympathize. I had one of these drives fail just last weekend.

        • @scud70: Tempting I know. Personally I'd like to see the drives shoved up the … of those responsible for the product and especially those who didn't halt production and sale once it became obvious something was seriously wrong.

You're anger will hopefully be somewhat assuaged by knowing they're being sued over it. Oh and my mistake it wasn't 25%, that would be just ridiculous. It was 32%.

        • @Rutger: Bunch of crooks…

  • Yep cloud 2 bay appers 2 be 2 hdd units.
I don't think the 2 nas does though - cheap otherwise especially if you can snag $15 rebate per drive as well.
I guess for warranty you would need cloud device intact.
    Great find.

anyone in need of a voucher PM me, i have 2. provided at first come first serve basis.

  • [@jamesbelsey]: Sorry James they killed your comment when they removed my incorrect one (I couldn't edit or delete it so had to report it). I could have sworn I read on the Seagate website it was 2x6tb but it appears you're correct and I was wrong. My apologies.

This appears to be 2x3tb which means, unless you can confirm otherwise, it may have the awful drives in them.

  • This JB deal is great - if you don't already have a NAS device.
Food for thought: So I found this $189.95 + Postage
SEAGATE [ST4000VN000] 4TB NAS Hard Drive
    https://www.businessbargains.com.au/epages/shop.sf/sec79897b…

Which should get $30* back if you buy two.
    http://seagatepromo.com.au/nas-hdd/

So for me is $415.25 less $30* = $385 delivered with 5 year warranty. (Confirmed from store) ~ $192.50ea w/ Rural postage.
Almost as good as last Amazon deal but 5 year warranty. Did anyone else get 5yr warranty to work on Amazon Seagate drive?
I'm liking Seagate NAS Pro OS4.
    Cheers.

  • Hmm I stopped having failed Seagate hard drives when I switched to WD and Hitachi hdd's (:
