What USA store would you buy the i7 lap from?
Through ebay. I bought my last laptop from Ebay US, recieved it no problem.
Here is the one I was talking about:
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-HP-Pavilion-dv6t-Core-i7-Quad-Laptop…
According to www.xe.com
1,105.50 USD
1,207.14 AUD
Not sure how warranty works but yea :D
The problem is that if they mark the true value of the laptop (which they're required to, by law), then you're looking at an extra 5% for duties, plus 10% of the initial price+duties.
Which brings it up to closer to 1400AUD.
@pais: Im sure they can say the value of the laptop is 1000$, to avoid the taxes =]
Which makes it still 1207.
Its all options okay!
@massari: Yep, they can, but most legitimate sellers won't participate in this practice because it likely breaches one law or another…
Furthermore, customs inspections are free to evaluate the price of the goods internally. If they deem the product to be more expensive than the claimed amount, you or the seller may be required to provide evidence of the actual cost of the goods (bank statement, paypal, whatever).
Additionally - good luck if the package gets lost and they've underclaimed. Goodbye insurance.
I'm pretty sure you can even be fined if you're not checking the customs declaration when you receive it.
Anyway, if anyone wants to risk purchasing it off ebay/overseas and then being stung with subsequent customs fees, then that's their prerogative. Many unknowing buyers get stung by this on a regular basis… So I'm just letting them know what can and does happen occasionally in these situations. :)
cool thx
so that is the one you were talking about here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/23368 but didnt answer me on what the model was:
they look sufficently different to me that they're apples and oranges.
Your one doesnt have a blu-ray writer, tvb card, the hard drive is half the size, doesnt have australian warranty and misses out on the redemption. when you add all these things in I think when you add all those things in it justifies the higher price for the 2119blu ray writers are still very expensive if you bought it on its own.
The apcmag article says this is "The second best overall deal in the market" What is the best overall?
loool!! good question
The article mentions the Acer AS5740G-434G64MN, which apparently can be had at Dick Smith for $1,097 according to http://apcmag.com/notebookhunter/deals/hp-pavilion-dv6-2113t… (for some reason the text in that URL refers to another HP but the page itself is about the Acer…)
what's with all these crappy screen resolutions on laptops these days? grr
…and the glossy, fingerprint magnet finishes that look bad even on display in the shop!
myer can go cheaper. im sure the guys in the city store can do $1000 or something
Awesome Lap :D Thou can get an i7 imported from america for about 1100 . But good for australia
