Garmin Fenix 3 HR AU $728.10 (or Garmin Fenix 3 HR Performer Bundle AU $774) @ Cotswold Outdoor

160
FIRST10-AU

Since the pricing is so ridiculously high in Australia as a pre-order (probably due to the high USD exchange rate), I did my homework to save my pennies and came across this bargain. Used OzBargain to check on deals before so about time I contribute something back finally!

Pre-order the Garmin Fenix 3 HR (includes Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology, Garmin Part Number: 010-01338-70) from the UK for AU $809 including delivery when it's available end of February/early March. If you register for an account and opt in to receiving their marketing emails you'll get a 10% discount coupon for your first order of full priced items (FIRST10-AU), so the Fenix 3 HR comes down to AU $728.10. Wasn't able to find anything close to that pricing in Australia or overseas. They also have the Garmin Fenix 3 HR Performer Bundle (Garmin Part Number: 010-01338-73) which includes the HRM4-RUN Chest Strap for AU $859 so with the 10% discount comes down to AU $774 including delivery. The HRM4-RUN alone retails for AU $149 here in Oz so for an extra AU $46 is well worth grabbing. If you only purchase a single unit, it's under the AU $1000 limit for customs so there will be no import duty charges. You can cancel your order before it ships if better pricing appears but considering how popular this anticipated model is I don't see that happening.

Coswold Outdoor seems to be a rather large chain in the UK and feedback seems to be reasonable. They state that if you use a credit card for payment it will only be pre-authorised and not billed until the unit ships (may be delayed by Garmin, it's happened before) but if you pay with Paypal it's debited instantly. Worth keeping that in mind. Not sure how long bargain pricing will be available but I needed an upgrade of my older Garmin Forerunner so bit the bullet this morning, cheapest I found in Australia was AU $984 so it's saving me AU $210. Garmin Australia's warranty terms clearly state "Devices purchased in the United States, Canada, UK, Europe or any other country must be returned to the Garmin Service Centre in that country or to the retail store where the device was purchased. Alternatively you can choose to pay the non-warranty repair rate.". From the Cotswold Outdoor FAQ… Q: Will I be reimbursed for postage costs when returning an item? A: You will only be refunded postage costs if the item is incorrect or faulty.

This is the link for the manual which I came across last night, getting some Smart Watch features for sure but at least this is water-resistant.

Aus shipping $9. So much text, you definately did your homework no one can dispute that.

    • Yeah $9 shipping. It was everything I wanted to know so thought it worth sharing but yeah, had an ADD moment, haha.

  • Does it make coffee ?
Wow alot money for hi tech watch. I hope it worth it.
have to google it to find out why the price…..

  • Dont worry , it does not have front/back camera or full HD screen.
For those that are considering the alternative to Fenix3 - may be latest Suunto Ambit 3 will suit if their recent AU cashback offer has not expired yet.

There are no waterproof watches. There are water resistant watches. Fenix 3 is rated for 10 bar or atm (same as Suunto sport watches) per page 21 of the provided manual. Even the cheapest Casio gshock watches (<$100) are rated 2x higher - for 20 bars. Here is a link with some explanation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_Resistant_mark . The buyer should be aware that the Fenix 3 is not suitable for serious water sports activities despite its price and marketing.

    • Cheers for that, sorry, just my poor wording, it's revised, was a long night of research, haha. I also go swimming with my current watch which is why this was a factor in what I purchased.

NP. 10 atm rating should be quite sufficient for normal swimming. I know 2 owners of Fenix 3 and both of them love it though they paid over $1k.

    • They probably don't like it all that much but won't admit it :p

I have both the Suunto Ambit Peak 3 Sapphire and the Garmin Fenix 3 Sapphire. The Ambit is better value for money in my opinion. It's a non Chroma screen, so the battery lasts a whole lot longer (up to 6 weeks if you set the GPS "ping" lower). The Movescout app on all platforms is more stable and intuitive.

The only couple of things I like the Fenix over the Ambit is vibration alerts and the sapphire version metal band is gorgeous. You can wear it with anything.

I wear the Ambit when I go do hardcore outdoorsy things and the Fenix when the wife says I have to look semi formal for something.

  • Does it provide tides information?

    • No, it does not. However it can count the waves with Surf Tracker app (Here I get the 3rd neg LOL).

      • $700+ and the watch doesn't provide tides info !!! big miss for Garmin (a cheap g-shock can do that)

        • Lol, who needs tides in the office?! You would not want your $700+ watch lost in the sand, scratched by the rocks, destroyed by saltwater or sunheat, dropped forever in the deep water or abused in any other way. That's cheap gshock territory.

        • @savit: If u are in an office you don't need a sport watch ;-) You need the tides if you're planning on swimming

        • Well, many people - young or old/ fit or not quite fit - like to wear sport watches in the office. For some of them it is an additional motivation and tracking of 24/7 physical activity.

I prefer the tides from my phone apps. It is just easier to plan in advance for the next few days if you see the whole chart with high and low times on the large screen. On the other side my Casio allows to make the manual adjustment/calibrate for the actual tide time if the spot is relatively far from the closest tide station and actual high/lows are different from the reported.

  • WOW, I'm really interest in this sports watch. but I bet if we could wait a couple of months after the stock is available, the AU price from some AU online store will drop to arround $7xx too.

  • Garmin just annouced the Vivoactive HR. RPP $249.99 USD: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/wearabletech/wearables/vivoa…
This should be out late March. The recent software updates to the Garmin applications are huge improvements as well. This one might be better value for money vs the Fenix 3.

  • I want Australian warranty :-)

You would get 12% discount if you buy Fenix 3 HR from OnSport.com.au (7% from CashRewards and 5% from "savefive" coupon) – the catch is that OnSport is still waiting stock from Garmin (join me in sending follow-up emails and Facebook msgs to OnSport)
