4G has stayed strong all day for me, except for about 45 minutes where it went from 1.3MB/s to 300kB/s, back to normal now.

Does anyone get a good Speedtest result, but then go to download something and it is really slow?

    • +1

      Yea, smells like throttling.

  • +3

    Can't talk…downloading…

All you retards complaining slow speeds put the sim on a device with 4GX Cat 6 Device with 700 Mhz B28 LTE Band support and see the speeds. 1800 Mhz LTE B3 is which have become congested. I am getting well above 150 Mbps all day, 440GB uploads done, dont have much to download anyway so just concentrating on getting all my stuff on cloud !

all depends on your local tower and signal strength

i live in a 4gx area however tower signal strength causes me to lose a bit of speed

managed 60-80mbit from narangba on 2-3 bars with antenna pointed towards tower

not bad considering im on 5km of shit copper and barely hit 3mbit over dsl2

pulled down about 500gb over the last 8 hours from narangba

    uploaded 100gb

    happy enough

Just got a call from the "telstra technical dept" he said "you ozzie bastards have broken the internet"

  • Tethering kinda sucks. Can't load select HTTPS sites and USB stops working after ~15 minutes but wifi is alright. Updating everything on steam/origin after trying PSN which went even slower than my DSL. Maxing out around 1.7mb/sec on 1 bar signal

  • All you people suck! But no where near Telstra!
hehe only kidding, only telstra suck, Im just jealous.
Typically during the day Im lucky to get about 300k a second and upto 800-1000 at night.
    Today Im averaging around 50k!!!!
Last night I was getting around 600 when I went to bed, but woke up to only 10gig downloaded and those awful speeds.
Compare this with vodafones free weekend where I got a consistent 1.6meg a second.
Telstra may have the biggest network, but Ive consistently gotten bad speeds….hate telstra.

Great offer and seen no effect on speeds on 4G from the tower down the road.

However, my iPad says there's a software update available. When I go to download the update, it says the update is currently unavailable and to try again later. Either Apple's servers are on heavy load or someone is restricting access?

    Anyone else encountered this?

Edit: just did a speed test - 2.33Mbps down and 4.3Mbps up. Typically, I get 27-43Mbps down and 6-13Mbps down on a weekday.

Speed test done in Hurstville, NSW

  • Haven't really used too much of it. It's valentines day. Better spend the time with your love one. Only get to upload photos and videos off mobile to cloud as cable is only 2 Mbps, vs 24 Mbps. Certainly felt the difference to be NBN like… Wish this is permanent on broadband fixed lines… As in speed not the deal heh

      Happy Valentines Day Internet.
      I love you <3

its running like an absolute nugget for me

  • Updated my Gran Turismo 6, from base to the latest, each run is approximate 10gb, but the first run got screwed so had to redownload it again! FML!

  • Is the free data till 3AM AEDT Melbourne/Sydney time. I am on a $2 sim anyway so will download till it lasts lol

  • Maybe Telstra extended the date, or its permanent

    • +1

      ends 3am Monday AEST
      so no not permanent

I wanna share how much data I used, but fear news limited will quote me lol. Pretty happy, turned of tethering now in case it ends early.
Pretty happy, was 6MB/sec last night but struggled at 1-3 today. Some things like Xbox live seemed to be throttled.

I'm not shy - I got 120GB (download only) out of them using a MF 823 USB 4G Modem. Installed some steam games on a new box and downloaded a few ISO's. All using a sim that had no credit and expired months ago.

Got through 74,953 MB on an LG G4 phone on Sunday, using an old Telstra prepaid MBB SIM that was about to expire with zero credit left. I had other Telstra SIMs, but for me this was the best one to use, since I could go to bed and leave it running on Sunday night, safe in the knowledge there was no way to bill me for any usage on Monday. I like the idea of using an unactivated $2 SIM though ;-)

Definite congestion observed - normally I would get 4.5 MB/s downloads, but was typically seeing around 1.1 MB/s. This is inner-city Sydney, so lots of people would have been going for it.

Biggest problem that I had was keeping the phone's battery charged. I was USB tethering (seem to get the best speeds this way), but even plugged into the computer the phone drained power faster than it charged (was draining at around 15 to 20% per hour). And at around 10% power the USB tethering would automatically disconnect, then I would manually move it to a proper wall charger, then resume downloading when it got to around 90% charge. Bit of a pain though. So I have a question:
    * Is there some way to make the phone charge faster whilst keeping USB tethering? I tried both USB 3 and USB 2 ports, both drained faster than charging (although I think the drain may have been faster on USB 2).
    * Is there a cheap 4G modem that would have been better? I guess ideally it would have an external antenna, since I know that the balcony normally gets around 11 MB/s, faster than the 4.5 MB/s indoors, and ideally it would be cat 6 or better since that's what the LG G4 is, and ideally it would be ozbargainer-compatible (i.e. cheap + good).
