    Question to OP
Any deals on Japan coming soon ?

    • +3

Let me just consult my crystal ball

      • which model do you use?

        • Still using the Beta

        • @Spackbace:

          I have the Alpha 3XII

    • If you're referring to travelling soon as opposed to a sale, then I doubt it. March/April is the cherry blossom season as far as I can remember?

        • Haha JV so sheltered.. Though sakura ice ceam does taste pretty good.

      • I'm looking for dates in September for a friend's wedding :)

Isn't this a dupe of this deal?

    • +1

nope, OP listed 2 airlines and it was from a different website

      • Missed the Airasia; my bad. Having said that it being from IWTF isn't any different from it being from Jetstar.

I visited Saigon for the first time last year. Loved it and would return in a heartbeat to see Northern Vietnam but cant get there this year. If you are available on these dates, 100% go!

Avoid Hanoi, even the locals in the south avoid it. The rest of the places up along the coast are great though. Also if you have the choice between a "sleeping" bus or a train, take the train.

      • Agree, south up to Hue is great.
As for the train and bus comment dont waste your time on either and fly.

      • +2

Why avoid Hanoi? I have not heard of locals in the South avoid Hanoi either. Are you sure it's not just a minor of them?

        • +5

Been there myself, south is a lot better in terms of people. The north still hold resentment and go far out of their way to scam tourists. Experienced this first hand and had others relay anecdotes. But again, downvote like sheep.

        • +1

@BoneyMalone: wasn't me who downvoted though. Scams happen anywhere, I am actually Vietnamese and I got scammed myself everytime , everywhere I went to in Hue. It just happened to you in Hanoi. Sorry about that though but Hanoi is so much better than Saigon for me. :P

@trangnm46: you must be Việt Cộng :)

        • +4

@Marcsie: damn. Got downvoted to hell for expressing my opinion politely and got called Viet Cong lol.

        • +1

@trangnm46: He's not wrong, it happens everywhere in Vietnam.

        • +2

Yeah there is nothing wrong with Hanoi. In fact many locals from the South travel there to work in construction. They are not doing a very good job at avoiding the place.
The only downside I can think of regarding the place is that it's not as clean as it once was. There is dust everywhere, but that's largely due to the amount of construction that's been going on the past 5-10 years.

You are just as likely to get scammed elseware in Vietnam as a tourist.

I love Hanoi. I had the opposite experience and found the locals in hanoi to be a lot friendlier than the south. (My family is from the south)

Me too! Been to Vietnam 4 times and Hanoi is my fave place

    • to the person who neg voted my comment, did I just step on your tail?

lots of Visa info on Ozbargain, and also 'Google'. Go via their search functions. There is a lot of info that you need to absorb. Re sale period, go to the web sites and punch in your dates etc and see what you find. Number of seats available and price is often very fluid (a moment by moment proposition)

      • +5

they neg voted you because you seem lazy. Punch in the details on the website and see it for yourself. It takes approximately 72.78 seconds to complete. 121.32 seconds if you have fat fingers and indecisive :)

        • Double check your math. Mine results in 72.79 and 121.33.

For the Visa I recommend getting it before-hand; you can get some form of online-visa then complete the rest in Vietnam but doing the process fully in Australia (whilst more expensive) is a lot smoother.

        thank you

        • +1

Not sure what fees are now, but you might want to check with a Vietnamese travel agent and get it all done before you leave Australia. These travel agents often have bulk orders and will do for you even if you don't buy travel with them. Saves you waiting on landing, and potentially paying more. Check prices. Used to be $70 to have it done here, includes postage to Canberra .

my mum was told by the embassy last week when she got her visas that they seemed cheaper online because it doesn't tell you about the charges at the airport after the online part. I'd do it in Australia if possible - the less interaction with airport personnel (and potential for "extra fees") the better.

        • Visa on arrival are not 'extra' fees, they are set fees. It depends whether 2 trips to the Consulate and spending maybe an extra $50 or so is better than about 1 hour wait at the Visa on arrival counter.

        • +2

          @peck:

If you're white, then set fees.

If you have Viet heritage, they'll attempt to get extra fees for "coffee" for the boys. No coffee, you wait.

Be wary of eDreams they don't have the best track record.

  • If it's Jetstar, there is no Direct flights. :( Only Qantas and Viet Airlines do it. Wish Jetstar did a direct.

  • Does anyone know whether Jetstar will match the Air Asia price for Perth to Ho Chi Minh? Reason why i prefer to fly Jetstar is the layover is in Singapore rather than KL. Thanks.

    • Is it better to layover in Sing rather than KL? About our luggage or something else? Thanks

      • Singapore airport is probably the best air port in the world and it is super comfortable, huge and has lots to see while the KL airport that Air Asia uses is the low cost one and is pretty dingy and uncomfortable.

      • Last time I had a layover in KL it was with AirAsia, I'm guessing JetStar might be at the same discount terminal, and it was terrible. They were in the middle of rebuilding it, but I'd take Singapore any day over that.

        • The low cost terminal in kl has been rebuilt and is considerably much better than it was before. Recentlt traveled there with airasia. Though the terminal was huge and alot of walking betweem gates it can actually be compared to tiger terminal at melbourne. Plus the dutyfree shops were good.

  • hi is the layover in sing for 12 hrs before getting to hochiminh ? thats a long time

  • Cam on.
